West Indies vs Sri Lanka, 1st Test Match, Sri Lanka tour of West Indies 2026

Sri Lanka will play the first match of the 2026 Test series against the visiting West Indies at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium in Antigua. The match, which begins on June 25, is the first of a two-match Test series. Both teams will be looking to strengthen their position in the longer format. The hosts West Indies will have the home field advantage, as well as the return of some experienced cricketers to the team, which will boost their confidence. On the other hand, Sri Lanka will be confident after a competitive performance in the white-ball matches on the tour.

For the West Indies, special attention will be paid to captain Roston Chase, wicketkeeper-batsman Shai Hope and pacers Alzarri Joseph and Shamar Joseph. On the other hand, the mainstays of the Sri Lankan batting department can be Pathum Nishanka, Dinesh Chandimal and Kusal Mendis. Also, their spin attack can play an important role as the match progresses. Both teams have a good mix of experience and young talent, so the match is likely to be quite competitive.

The wicket at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium generally offers equal opportunities for batsmen and bowlers. The new ball gives the pacers extra swing and seam movement early in the match, especially in the morning session of the first day. However, as time goes on, batting becomes easier and there are opportunities for big innings on the second and third days.

As the wicket slowly starts to break down on the fourth and fifth day, spinners can play a big role in the match. Therefore, this wicket is quite suitable for the patient and technical batsmen of Test cricket. Most teams may decide to bat first after winning the toss, as batting can become relatively difficult towards the end of the match.
