Upcoming Electric Cars: Here’s what to expect

Upcoming Electric Cars - Find the upcoming electric cars in India with expected launched date & expected price.

As is the trend these days, each and every manufacturer is investing in new technologies and designs to give consumers a choice of electric vehicles - although still secondary vehicles - for their garage. After all, it’s the push from the Government of India that has really enabled a lot of manufacturers to invest and develop world class electric vehicles in India.

While manufacturers with electric vehicles like BYD, Tesla and VinFast have already found their way into the Indian market, our homegrown makers like Mahindra and Tata Motors - and now Maruti Suzuki with the recently launched eVitara - have much more technologically advanced and enticing products, developed specially for the Indian customer. The showdown of upcoming electric cars below is a lowdown of what we can expect from manufacturers in 2026. Here is the list:

Tata Sierra EV

Tata’s ICE-powered Sierra has seen an overwhelming response in the Indian market, with everyone talking about how the car looks, feels, and drives. For a segment that’s populated with vehicles with every manufacturer in India, a standout product like Sierra is a gamechanger for Tata Motors.

Building the portfolio further, Tata’s next electric launch is the Sierra EV. Tata Motors has showcased the Sierra EV in flesh and while it does look remarkably similar to its ICE-powered counterpart, this upcoming EV car actually stands out with its subtle changes to the already enticing design.

We’re expecting the Tata Sierra EV to have the 55kWh battery pack from the top-spec Curvv EV and the 65kWh unit seen in entry-level Harrier EV variants. Tata Motors may have confirmed rear-wheel- and all-wheel-drive versions already. The overall equipment list may be similar to the ICE-powered Sierra, however prices for the all-electric Sierra are expected to start at ₹16 lakh and go up to ₹25 lakh (ex-showroom).

Toyota Urban Cruiser Ebella

Maruti Suzuki has very recently unveiled the prices for its first electric vehicle, the eVitara. Toyota cars isn’t very far behind with the eVitara cousin, as the first upcoming electric car from the brand’s stable has been named the Urban Cruiser Ebella at a live event very recently.

The Urban Cruiser Ebella is very much an eVitara under the skin, with some meaningful changes to the overall design of the vehicle. Therefore, specifications will be similar to the eVitara, which should mean the Toyota’s badge-engineered version of the eVitara is expected to feature 49kWh and 61kWh battery packs.

As for the differences, the Toyota Urban Cruiser EV differentiates itself from the eVitara by having a Prius-like headlight signature, subtle tweaks to the rear and unique interior trim, upholstery and paint colours. Prices are expected to be in the ballpark of ₹18 lakh to ₹25 lakh (ex-showroom). Toyota may also launch the vehicle with BaaS facility, which may result in a very attractive entry level price for the Ebella.

VinFast VF3

The VinFast VF3 is a very interesting vehicle, and may just hit the sweet spot for the average Indian buyer when it comes to small electric vehicles. The VF3 is an upcoming EV car from the brand’s stable that is definitely a looker thanks to its squared off design and boxy looks. The electric vehicle may not be bigger than, say an MG Comet, however it really looks smart and will have the space advantage thanks to its boxy dimensions. The car also looks perfect for city commutes and may just be the new small Defender-like vehicle everyone puts their money on, in 2026.

This small, boxy tall-boy may have an 18.6kWh battery powering a 43 bhp motor. Its prices are expected to be in the ₹8 lakh to ₹10 lakh (ex-showroom) region with a launch expected in June 2026. The brand may also offer a BaaS subscription plan to position the VF3 as an even more affordable alternative to the MG Comet, Tata Punch EV, and Citroen eC3.

Skoda Elroq

The Czech-based automaker might be late to the party in the Indian market, but it sure has a very interesting product up its sleeve. We can expect the upcoming electric car from Skoda - the Elroq - to be a more practical and sophisticated product for the Indian market, amongst a slew of fancy and futuristic electric vehicles.

This one feels more like a standard Skoda vehicle, as it features a timeless design with very subtle lines and an overall mature look. It is though a sizable vehicle - as it may not look like one in images - and may directly take on the likes of the Hyundai Ioniq 5 and BMW iX1 LWB, with an expected price tag around ₹45 lakh (ex-showroom). While we do not have much information of the powertrain that’ll likely make its way to the Indian Elroq, we can expect Skoda to equip the Indian version with RWD and a battery pack of 52kWh, 59kWh and 77kWh capacity, depending on the variant.

Conclusion

As is the trend, manufacturers like Skoda and Toyota are also stepping up to introduce all-new electric vehicles in the Indian market, while bigger manufacturers like Tesla have already made their way here last year. While the list above gives a fair idea of the electric vehicles we can expect in 2026, the year has already begun with launches like the Maruti Suzuki eVitara and Tata Punch EV facelift.

As always, we’re excited to see what lies ahead!
