The world of Islam is in crisis for more that two centuries and there have been attempts to seek liberation and independence from the shackles of slavery brought by colonist powers. This write up in an English translation of Dr د. Ehsan Samara's Arabic article on FaceBook; discussing reason for failure of those movements.
بِسۡمِ ٱللهِ ٱلرَّحۡمَـٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ
In the name of ALLAH, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
The Reason for the Failure of Liberation Projects in the Islamic World
The success of any uprising for seeking the independence requires a prepared intellectual, social and political environment, whatsoever, whether that project is Islamic or non-Islamic. It is always a person who is captivated by his personal ideas and concepts, and with the cultural and social environment that prevails in the community of his living. It is also that he forms a will to challenge the impending problems as he takes actions, which can be defined as frame work refined and shaped in the light of his inherent formation. So that person imprints those ideas and concepts that he has created, practiced and established his personality upon.
Since a man is born a blank page, and all that he does as actions and reactions, he gains and imposes habits from the intellectual and cultural environment surrounding him; he develops attributes unwittingly by means and ways in exhibition around him in privately and socially, and this view is supported by the saying of ALLAH; His Glory:
(And Allah brought you out of the wombs of your mothers while you knew nothing, and gave you hearing, sight, and intellect so perhaps you would be thankful.) Al Nahl (78);
And further (“We found our forefathers following a ˹particular˺ way, and we are following in their footsteps.”) Az-Zukhruf (22);
And moreover the Holy Prophet Muhammad PBUH said ("Whoever is born except to be born by nature, so his parents are Jews or supports him, or makes him a Muslim.) Sahih Al-Bukhari, No: "1358"; Sahih Muslim, No: "2658".
Actually, the character of a person begins to be formed, in the light of the intellectual and cultural family environment; which is his behavior in communication and interaction, and in the light of his creation, his character is formed for adaptation and harmony. It is so that his will in life becomes the direction of his individual values and styles of behavior, in his social relations, in his dealings, or in systems that he associates with in his life and he discharges his affairs. Therefore, from here it is said that a man is the son of his environment, whether it is the first family or his social intellectual and cultural environment in which a man gains his skills and experiences.
And by careful study of happenings, which has been going on in the Islamic world in the name of the efforts of liberation and uprising, we find that all of them have not made any real meaningful uprising effort resulting in concrete results; as those attempts were:
1- Impromptu reactions;
2- Or it was some tradition of experimental nature that took place in history;
3- or concepts taken from the lands and environments that were strange from the intellectual and cultural environment in the Islamic world;
4- Or they were artificial illusion attempts in the form of armed revolutions to deplete or exhaust the energy of people; as they were nothing to do with renaissance and liberation; it only served to reinforce colonial slavery and perpetuate backwardness and decadence.
All of them were failed attempts that only increased the nation’s confusion, humiliation, degradation, and poor condition in all religious and worldly aspects. This is because they did not make any effort to focus on the human development necessary to bring about the hoped-for renaissance, and they did not care about the intellectual, cultural, and psychological qualification of cadres who would take upon themselves the responsibility of creating the intellectual and cultural societal environment that is appropriate for the desired change.
Intellectual and cultural development of society adapted to the desired change, is helpful only if it is derived in such a way that the public is driven and motivated by the necessity of change; with profound convictions to raise the standards of the society in the values, ideas and concepts and by developing convictions to be held in the family and community environment. In the Muslim World no effort had been made to work on the development of mass awareness to change public interests in educational, political, economic and life matters; before those critical efforts were made for liberation; so all wasted in futile.
So that the public is pushed and motivated towards the necessity of change in what it has of convictions and standards prevailing in society as a result of the values, ideas, concepts and convictions that are entrenched in the family and societal environment, and no effort has been made to work on developing public awareness of that, before those efforts wasted in being preoccupied with interest in educational, political, economic and life matters. It was nothing but the result of the conditions that were behind the nation’s backwardness and decadence, and what made it intellectually and psychologically prepared for colonial enslavement, and for the weakness represented by the love of the world and attachment to its desires and the pursuit of pleasures from the means of luxury and methods of material civilization. As a result of that, those renaissance projects were afflicted with a disastrous failure in their alleged renaissance efforts.
And bringing the nation to the brink of the abyss leading to annihilation and replacement, and there is no way for it to be liberated from the colonial tyrannical slavery, and to achieve true and correct advancement on the basis of true Islam except by working to change the intellectual, cultural and societal environment prevailing in the Muslim nations of Islam.
Since the path of guidance in achieving the renaissance of man and granting him the freedom befitting ALLAH’s honoring of him, and his preference over much of what He created is the path that the prophets and messengers followed. ALLAH Almighty has commanded mankind at all times to follow His guided path examples in all walks of life, and He has forbidden them to abandon it and follow other paths. Only through this can all the obstacles and impediments to progress or obstacles of the Renaissance, hidden in the souls, be overcome.
The ALLAH Almighty said: (... Verily, Indeed, Allah would never change a people’s state ˹of favour˺ until they change their own state ˹of faith.. ) Ar Raad (11)
This is what the prophets and messengers of ALLAH followed, when they were aiming to change societies and countries. Through them, peoples were liberated from tyrannical slavery, and people rose up through their call, rising intellectually on a spiritual basis, as this is clear in the words of ALLAH Almighty:
Glory be to ALLAH: (Those were the ones to whom We gave the Scripture, wisdom, and prophethood. But if these ˹pagans˺ disbelieve in this ˹message˺, then We have already entrusted it to a people who will never disbelieve in it.)
(These ˹prophets˺ were ˹rightly˺ guided by Allah, so follow their guidance... it is a reminder to the whole world.”.. ) Al Anaam: (89-90)
ALLAH has spoken the Truth.
إن نجاح أي مشروع استقلالي نهضوي يتطلب بيئة فكرية واجتماعية وسياسة مهيئة لذلك، سواء أكان ذلك المشروع إسلامياًّ أم غير إسلامي، حيث إن الإنسان أسير أفكاره ومفاهيمه الشخصية، والبيئة الثقافية والمجتمعية السائدة في مجتمعه، حيث إن إرادته المسيرة له في تصرفاته وأفعاله إنما تصقل وتتشكل على ضوء ذلك تشكيلا فطريا، بحيث يتطبع الإنسان بتلك الأفكار والمفاهيم التي ألفها واعتادها ونشأ عليها، حيث إن الإنسان يولد صفحة بيضاء، وكل ما يقوم به من تصرفات وأعمال إنما يكتسبها ويتروض عليها من البيئة الفكرية والثقافية المحيطة به بوسائل وطرائق التلقي أسريا ومجتمعيا، ويتأيد ذلك بقوله سبحانه: (وَاللَّهُ أَخْرَجَكُمْ مِنْ بُطُونِ أُمَّهَاتِكُمْ لَا تَعْلَمُونَ شَيْئًا وَجَعَلَ لَكُمُ السَّمْعَ وَالْأَبْصَارَ وَالْأَفْئِدَةَ لَعَلَّكُمْ تَشْكُرُونَ) النحل: (٧٨)؛ وقوله: (بَلْ قَالُوا إِنَّا وَجَدْنَا آبَاءَنَا عَلَى أُمَّةٍ وَإِنَّا عَلَى آثَارِهِمْ مُهْتَدُون) الزخرف: (٢٢)؛ وقوله صلى الله عليه وسلم: "ما من مولود إلا يولد على الفطرة فأبواه يهودانه أو ينصرانه أو يمجسانه أو يجعلانه مسلما…"صحيح البخاري، رقم: "١٣٥٨"؛ صحيح مسلم، رقم: "٢٦٥٨".
فعلى ضوء البيئة الفكرية والثقافية الأسرية تبدأ تتشكل شخصية الإنسان، وذلك أنه منها يستمد سلوكه في التواصل والتعاطي، وعلى ضوء تنشئته فيها تتكون طباعه في التكيف والانسجام، بحيث تصبح هي الموجهة لإرادته في الحياة إنْ في قيمه وأنماط سلوكه الفردي، أو في علاقاته المجتمعية، أو في معاملاته، أو في أنظمة حياته وسائر شؤونه، ومن هنا قيل بأن الإنسان ابن بيئته سواء منها الأسرية الأولى أم بيئته الفكرية والثقافية المجتمعية التي يكتسب فيها الإنسان مهاراته وخبراته.
وباستقراء ما جرى في العالم الإسلامي من بذل الجهود في محاولات تحررية ونهضوية، نجد أنها كلها لم تبذل أي جهد نهضوي حقيقي، حيث إن تلك المحاولات كانت:
1- ردود أفعال ارتجالية؛
2- أو كانت تقليدا لمحاولات جرت في التاريخ؛
3- أو في مواطن وبيئات غريبة عن البيئة الفكرية والثقافية في العالم الإسلامي؛
4- أو أنها محاولات تضليلية مصطنعة على شكل ثورات مسلحة لاستنفاذ طاقة الشعوب فيما لا علاقة له بالنهضة والتحرير؛ وتزيد في استحكام الاستعباد الاستعماري، وفي تكريس التخلف والانحطاط.
فكانت جميعها محاولات فاشلة لم تزداد الأمة بها إلا خبالا ومذلة وهوانا وسوء حال في جميع المناحي الدينية والدنيوية، وذلك أنها لم تبذل أي جهد في التركيز على التنمية البشرية اللاّزمة في إحداث النهضة المؤمل تحقيقها، ولم تعنى بالتأهيل الفكري والثقافي والنفسي لكوادر تأخذ على عاتقها تحمل المسؤولية لإيجاد البيئة الفكرية والثقافية المجتمعية الموائمة للتغيير المنشود،
بحيث يصار إلى دفع الجمهور وحفزه إلى ضرورة التغيير لما هو عليه من القناعات والمقاييس السائدة في المجتمع من جراء القيم والأفكار والمفاهيم والقناعات المستحكمة في المحيط الأسري والمجتمعي، ولم يبذل أي جهد للعمل على تنمية الوعي الجماهيري بذلك، قبل تلك الجهود المهدرة في الانشغال بالاهتمام في الأمور التربوية والسياسية والاقتصادية والحياتية التي
لا تعد عن كونها ناشئة عن الأوضاع التي كانت وراء ما عليه الأمة من التخلف والانحطاط، وما جعلها مهيئة فكريا ونفسيا للاستعباد الاستعماري، وإلى الوهن المتمثل في حب الدنيا والتعلق بشهواتها والسعي وراء طلب الملذات من وسائل الرفاهية وأساليب التحضر المادي، فكان من جراء ذلك أنْ منيت تلك المشاريع النهضوية فالفشل الذريع في مساعيها النهضوية المزعومة،
وإيصال الأمة إلى حافة الهاوية الموصلة إلى الفناء والاستبدال، ولا سبيل لها للتحرر من الاستعباد الطاغوتي الاستعماري، والنهوض الحقيقي الصحيح على أساس الإسلام الحق إلا بالعمل على تغيير البيئة الفكرية والثقافية المجتمعية السائدة في الأمة، حيث إنّ سبيل الرشاد في تحقيق نهضة الإنسان وإكسابه للحرية اللائقة بتكريم الله له، وتفضيله على كثير مما خلق هو السبيل الذي سار عليه الأنبياء والرسل،
وأمر الله سبحانه البشر في كل حين بالتأسي بهم في السير عليه، ونهى سبحانه عن تنكبه واتباع غيره من السبل، فبذلك وحده يتغلب على جميع الموانع والمعوقات النهضوية، الكامنة في النفوس،
حيث قال سبحانه: (… إِنَّ اللَّهَ لَا يُغَيِّرُ مَا بِقَوْمٍ حَتَّى يُغَيِّرُوا مَا بِأَنْفُسِهِمْ …) الرعد: (١١)،
وهذا ما سار عليه الأنبياء والرسل الذين استهدفوا تغيير المجتمعات والدول، وتحررت بهم الشعوب من الاستعباد الطاغوتي، ونهضت بدعوتهم الأمم فارتقت فكريا على أساس روحي، كما هو بين في قوله سبحانه:
(أُولَئِكَ الَّذِينَ آتَيْنَاهُمُ الْكِتَابَ وَالْحُكْمَ وَالنُّبُوَّةَ فَإِنْ يَكْفُرْ بِهَا هَؤُلَاءِ فَقَدْ وَكَّلْنَا بِهَا قَوْمًا لَيْسُوا بِهَا بِكَافِرِينَ (89) أُولَئِكَ الَّذِينَ هَدَى اللَّهُ فَبِهُدَاهُمُ اقْتَدِهْ …) الأنعام: (٨٩-٩٠) صدق الله العظيم.
