Checking on loved ones is part of the Sunnah of the ever turning (to Allah) Prophet
Praise be to ALLAH, the King, the Giver. He has commanded His servants to be kind to relatives and loved ones. I bear witness that there is no god but ALLAH alone, without partner. He has endeared righteous deeds to His servants, and with Him is the best destination. I bear witness that Muhammad, peace be upon him, is His servant and Messenger, the role model for nations, the pinnacle of ambition, and the pearl of those brought near to the Lord of Lords. May the prayers and peace of ALLAH be upon him, his family, and his companions. This is the translation of the recited verses from Surah Al Hujraat:
Surah Al Hujraat – 9-13
And if two parties or groups among the believers fall to fighting, then make peace between them both, But if one of them outrages against the other, then fight you (all) against the one that which outrages till it complies with the Command of Allâh; then if it complies, then make reconciliation between them justly, and be equitable. Verily! Allâh loves those who are equitable. (9) The believers are nothing else than brothers (in Islâmic religion). So make reconciliation between your brothers, and fear Allâh, that you may receive mercy. (10) O you who believe! Let not a group scoff at another group, it may be that the latter are better than the former; Nor let (some) women scoff at other women, it may be that the latter are better than the former, Nor defame one another, nor insult one another by nicknames. How bad is it, to insult one's brother after having Faith [i.e. to call your Muslim brother (a faithful believer) as: "O sinner", or "O wicked"]. And whosoever does not repent, then such are indeed Zâlimûn (wrong-doers). (11) O you who believe! Avoid much suspicion, indeed some suspicions are sins. And spy not, neither backbite one another. Would one of you like to eat the flesh of his dead brother? You would hate it (so hate backbiting). And fear Allâh. Verily, Allâh is the One Who forgives and accepts repentance, Most Merciful. (12) O mankind! We have created you from a male and a female, and made you into nations and tribes, that you may know one another. Verily, the most honourable of you with Allâh is that (believer) who has At-Taqwa [i.e. he is one of the Muttaqûn (pious - see V.2:2). Verily, Allâh is All-Knowing, All-Aware. (13)
Surah Al Hujraat – 9-13
O servants of ALLAH: Fear ALLAH and Adopt piety and obey Allah. ALLAH says in Surah Al Hashar
O you who believe! Fear Allâh and keep your duty to Him. And let every person look to what he has sent forth for the tomorrow, and fear Allâh. Verily, Allâh is All-Aware of what you do.
Surah Al Hashr – 18
O believers: Checking on those around us is considered one of the noble morals that Islam calls for. It is carried by people of good souls, who contribute to building a cohesive society in which love and good treatment prevail among its members. This makes the Muslims a single, cohesive line, as the Prophet، peace be upon him indicated by his saying:
The example of the believers in their mutual love, mercy, and compassion is like that of a body: when one part of it is ill, the rest of the body responds to it with sleeplessness and fever.
Because checking up strengthens the bond of society, the noble prophets paid attention to it. This is the Prophet Solomon, peace be upon him, checking up on those absent from his gathering, even with non-humans. ALLAH Almighty says in Surah Al Naml:
He inspected the birds, and said: "What is the matter that I see not the hoopoe? Or is he among the absentees?
Surah Al Naml – 20
It is not hidden from the intelligent person that our Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him, paid great attention to this characteristic. He would check on his companions and ask about absent ones. He would pray for their travelers, visit their sick ones, and condole their deceased ones. This was only because he was the teacher with the highest morals. Our Generous Lord says in Surah Al Qalam:
And verily, you (O Muhammad SAW) are on an exalted (standard of) character.
Surah Al Qalam – 4
O Muslims: Asking about others has great positive effects. Checking on them is one of the greatest means that opens wide doors for the Muslim to obtain rewards and good deeds. Through it, we achieve the goals of brotherhood in ALLAH. We build bridges of interconnectedness and cooperation for good. Seyyedina Abdullah bin Omar, may ALLAH be pleased with him, narrated that the Messenger of ALLAH, peace be upon him, said:
A Muslim is a brother to another Muslim. He does not wrong him, nor does he hand him over. Whoever attends to the needs of his brother, Allah will attend to his needs. Whoever relieves a Muslim of a hardship, Allah will relieve him of a hardship on the Day of Resurrection. Whoever covers up a Muslim, Allah will cover him up on the Day of Resurrection.”
The truth is that the abundance of work is not an excuse for someone who is negligent in checking on his family, relatives, and brothers. Even though we live in a time of haste, ALLAH Almighty has provided us with easy means of communication, such as the telephone, voice, visual, and written messages. So, pledging to maintain close ties with relatives is an act of kindness upon which ALLAH Almighty has taken a covenant. ALLAH Almighty says in Surah Al Baqara:
And (remember) when We took a covenant from the Children of Israel, (saying): Worship none but Allâh (Alone) and be dutiful and good to parents, and to kindred, and to orphans and Al-Masâkîn (the poor), and speak good to people [i.e. enjoin righteousness and forbid evil, and say the truth about Muhammad Peace be upon him
Surah Al Baqara – 83-Part
O servants of ALLAH: The Almighty Lord says I'm Surah Al Nisa
Worship Allâh and join none with Him (in worship), and do good to parents, kinsfolk, orphans, Al-Masâkin (the poor), the neighbour who is near of kin, the neighbour who is a stranger, the companion by your side, the wayfarer (you meet), and those (slaves) whom your right hands possess. Verily, Allâh does not like such as are proud and boastful;
Surah An Nisa – 36
ALLAH Almighty shows us that one of the greatest manifestations of concern and interest in a Muslim’s life is his care for his parents. Being dutiful to them, serving them, and fulfilling their needs is one of the deepest forms of loyalty and appreciation for their rights. A Muslim is keen to give his parents priority in this regard, and his kindness to them is not limited to their lifetime only, but rather continues even after their death. On the authority of Seyyedina Abdullah ibn Umar, may ALLAH be pleased with him, he said: I heard the Messenger of ALLAH saying:
One of the most pious acts of piety is for a man to maintain close ties with his father’s friends after his father has passed away.
This concern also extends to include the wife, children, relatives, kinship ties, neighbors, and everyone who has a role to play, whether as a teacher, educator, advisor, or loyal friend.
O servants of ALLAH, fear ALLAH. Says in Surah Al Baqara
and do good. Truly, Allâh loves Al-Muhsinûn (the good-doers).
Surah Al Baqara – 195-Part
I say what you hear, and I ask forgiveness from God Almighty for me and for you, so ask forgiveness from Him and He will forgive you, for He is the Forgiving and Merciful, and pray to Him and He will answer you, for He is The noble righteousness
========================================================
Praise be to ALLAH, the Forbearing, the Merciful. We bear witness that there is no god but ALLAH alone, without partner, and we bear witness that our master Muhammad, peace be upon him, is the noble Messenger of ALLAH, may ALLAH’s prayers and peace be upon him and upon his family and companions, the people of virtue and honor.
As for what follows, O servants of ALLAH: The life of the Prophet was filled with checking on his companions. Whenever one of them was absent from him, he would ask: “What has so-and-so done?, wherevis he” If he was afflicted with illness or worry, he would visit him and relieve him. Among this is that a man used to come to the Prophet, peace be upon him, with his son, so the Prophet, peace be upon him said to him: ((Do you love him?)) He said: May Allah love you as I love him. The Prophet missed him and said: ((What happened to so-and-so?)) They said: His son died. The Prophet said: ((Would you not like not to come to one of the gates of Paradise without finding him waiting for you?)) A man said: Is it for him specifically or for all of us? He said: ((Rather, for all of you)).
On the authority of Abu Umamah ibn Sahl, who said: “A poor woman in al-‘Awali fell ill, and the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) asked them about her and said: ‘If she dies, do not bury her until I pray over hiler. ’ So she died, and they brought her to Madinah after the Isha prayer. They found the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) was asleep, and they were reluctant to wake him up. So they prayed over her and buried her in Baqi’ al-Gharqad. When morning came, they came to the Messenger of Allah, and he asked them about her. They said, “She has been buried, O Messenger of Allah. We came to you and found you were asleep, and we did not want to wake you up.” He said, “Then go.” So he went walking, and they walked with him until they showed him her grave. The Messenger of Allah stood up, and they lined up behind him. He prayed over her and said Allahu Akbar four times. Among the examples of righteousness, kindness, and remembering good deeds from the beloved Chosen One is what the Mother of the Believers, Aisha, reported about his loyalty to Khadija, may God be pleased with them both. She said: “Whenever he slaughtered a sheep, he would say: Send it to Khadija’s friends.”
O servants of ALLAH, fear ALLAH and let us always remember that communicating with our brothers and relatives is not just a social obligation, but rather it is an act of worship through which we draw closer to ALLAH, and we should do it well. Our Lord, the Almighty, says in Surah Al Tawba:
And say (O Muhammad SAW) "Do deeds! Allâh will see your deeds, and (so will) His Messenger and the believers. And you will be brought back to the All-Knower of the unseen and the seen. Then He will inform you of what you used to do."
Surah Al Tawba – 105
O servants of Allah, remember this command of ALLAH:
Say: "O 'Ibâdî (My slaves) who have transgressed against themselves (by committing evil deeds and sins)! Despair not of the Mercy of Allâh, verily Allâh forgives all sins. Truly, He is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful.
Surah Az Zumr – 53
Surah Al Ahzaab – 56
So pray and send peace upon the leader of the messengers, Muhammad, the guide and trustworthy. Your Lord has commanded you to do so when He said: “Indeed, Allah and His angels send blessings upon the Prophet. O you who have believed, send blessings upon him and salute him with a worthy salutation.”
ALLAH says in Surah Al Ahzab: ALLAH and His kingdom send blessings upon the Prophet. O you who have believed, pray upon him and grant him peace.
Surah Al Ahzaab – 56
O ALLAH, bless and grant peace upon our Prophet Muhammad and upon the family of our Prophet Muhammad, as You prayed and peace upon our Prophet Abraham and upon the family of our Prophet Abraham, and bless our Prophet Muhammad and the family of our Prophet Muhammad, just as You blessed our Prophet Abraham and the family of our Prophet Abraham in the worlds. Indeed, You are Praiseworthy and Glorious. And be pleased, O Allah, with his Rightly-Guided Caliphs, and with his wives, the Mothers of the Believers, and with all the rest of the Companions, and with the believing men and women, and with this gathering of ours, by Your mercy, O Most Merciful of the merciful.
Oh ALLAH, make this gathering of us a merciful gathering, and make our separation after it an infallible separation, and do not leave among us or with us any wretched or deprived.
Oh ALLAH, honor Islam, guide Muslims to the truth, unite their words in goodness, break the power of the oppressors, and grant peace and security to your servants. All of them.
O Allah, be a helper to our brothers in the blessed land of Al-Aqsa, be with them, strengthen them, strengthen their hearts, and grant them patience. Disappoint Your enemy and their enemy, and turn the tables on him, O Possessor of Majesty and Honor.
O Allah, we ask You for steadfastness in our affairs and determination to do what is right. We ask You for gratitude for Your blessings and proper worship of You. We ask You for sound hearts and truthful tongues. We ask You for the best of what You know and seek refuge in You from the worst of what You know. We seek Your forgiveness for what You know.
Oh ALLAH, O Ever-Living, O Ever-Living, O Possessor of Majesty and Honour, there is no god but You, Glory be to You, by You we seek refuge and by Your mercy we seek help, that you will not leave us to Our souls are within the blink of an eye, and nothing is closer than that. And rectify for us all our affairs, O Reconciliator, the affairs of the righteous.
Oh ALLAH, our Lord, protect our countries, honor our authority, support it with the truth, and support it with the truth, O Lord of the worlds. Oh God, bestow your blessing upon him, Support it with the light of your wisdom, guide it with your blessings, and protect it with your care.
O ALLAH, send down upon us from the blessings of the sky and bring forth for us from the goodness of the earth, and bless for us our fruits and our crops and all our provisions, O Possessor of Majesty and Generosity.
Our Lord, give us good in this world and good in the Hereafter and protect us from the punishment of the Fire.
O Allah, forgive the believing men and women, the Muslim men and women, the living and the dead among them. Indeed, You are the All-Hearing, the Near, the Answerer of supplications..
Servants of ALLAH - Indeed, ALLAH commands justice and good deeds, and bestows favor on relatives, and forbids indecency. And the denier and the transgressor admonish you that you may remember.
Surah An Nahl-90
