I shall Rise and Shine
Rise and shine is a metaphor comparing a human to the sun. The sun rises and shines in the morning. It means that we the humans should wake up and show our brilliance. The Humans Beings are supposed to work individually and collectively to achieve the greater goals in life. This write up is a bilingual effort in English and Urdu by sharing two poetic works of " The Builders" from Henry Wadsworth Longfellow and Writer J.R.R Tolkien's beautiful lines from novel “The Fellowship of the Ring”.

In the following works of two famous Poets are being shared to express the message on the subject “I shall rise and shine”.
The Builders
Henry Wadsworth Longfellow
All are architects of Fate,
Working in these walls of Time;
Some with massive deeds and great,
Some with ornaments of rhyme.
Nothing useless is, or low;
Each thing in its place is best;
And what seems but idle show
Strengthens and supports the rest.
For the structure that we raise,
Time is with materials filled;
Our to-days and yesterdays
Are the blocks with which we build.
Truly shape and fashion these;
Leave no yawning gaps between;
Think not, because no man sees,
Such things will remain unseen.
In the elder days of Art,
Builders wrought with greatest care
Each minute and unseen part;
For the Gods see everywhere.
Let us do our work as well,
Both the unseen and the seen;
Make the house, where Gods may dwell,
Beautiful, entire, and clean.
Else our lives are incomplete,
Standing in these walls of Time,
Broken stairways, where the feet
Stumble as they seek to climb.
Build to-day, then, strong and sure,
With a firm and ample base;
And ascending and secure
Shall to-morrow find its place.
Thus alone can we attain
To those turrets, where the eye
Sees the world as one vast plain,
And one boundless reach of sky.
The Builders is a poem written by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow. The main idea of the poem is the evolution of human history from start to finish one had to make additions to it whether little or huge to make progress. The poet also explains one should not forget his history and where he/she came from.
'The Builders' by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow describes how a nation is built from the contributions of each and every individual of the country. The people from both the past and present collectively work for a nation's advancement.
The poem 'The Nation Builders' tells us that material wealth does not make a nation strong and great. The people of strong character build a nation. People who are ready to make sacrifices for the truth and honour, who are ready to stand firm and suffer, lay a solid foundation of a nation.
The poet presents a speaker who asserts that every person in a society counts. In fact, he presents the comparison of a nation or a society with a piece of architecture and argues that like every piece in a building or a social structure relies on every individual. Some are great and some are not. Some are leaders, while some are writers, and each has his own work to execute. It used to happen in the old days and it will continue to happen in the future when nations continue to rely on every individual. The reason is every individual works for the glory of the nation or the society in which he lives. Some may have great portfolios, while some may have a hidden one; but all of them work together to make the nation touch the sky. Therefore, there is stress on the individuality of a person.
The same message as above can be further explained with the help of another poetic expression from Writer J.R.R Tolkien who has written some beautiful lines in his artistic novel “The Fellowship of the Ring”.
“All that glitter is not gold”
“All that is gold does not glitter,
Not all those who wander are lost;
The old that is strong does not wither,
Deep roots are not reached by the frost.
From the ashes a fire shall be woken,
A light from the shadows shall spring;
Renewed shall be blade that was broken,
The crownless again shall be king.”
What is the message in these verses?
The poetic reference in the above poem reflects the themes of human hidden greatness, resilience and renewal. Overall, Tolkien's poems celebrate resilience, the latent potential within individuals, and the variable nature of renewal and change. Language and imagery contribute to the mythic and timeless quality characteristic of Tolkien's writing.
"All that is gold does not glitter” suggests that true value may not always be apparent at first glance.
" Not all those who wander are lost "; Or "All those who wander are not necessarily always lost; it is also a good idea that travel and exploration should not have a purpose and that without a clear destination in life one can lose one's way.
"The old that is strong does not wither; Deep roots are not reached by the frost." highlights that strong and deep-rooted people remain steadfast against the trials of time.
"From the ashes a fire shall be woken” refers to rebirth and the emergence of strength from the weak from adversity.
“Renewed shall be blade that was broken; the crownless again shall be king" highlights that the underdog has the potential to rise to greatness.
Dear Readers; if one has the desire and will to rise; nothing can hold him to shine then and if a Nation aspires to rise, it does by the collective efforts of a sizable numbers of the countrymen and earns respectability from the global community. The recent examples of Pakistan’s Javelin Throw Olympic record holder at Paris 2024 and the students rising in Bangladesh shall serve the message loud and clear.

دی بلڈرز ہینری وڈس ورتھ لانگ فیلو کی لکھی ہوئی ایک نظم ہے۔ نظم کا بنیادی خیال انسانی تاریخ کا آغاز سے آخر تک ارتقاء ہے، ہر کسی کو اس میں کام کرنا پڑتا ہے خواہ وہ چھوٹا ہو یا بڑا۔ شاعر یہ بھی بتاتا ہے کہ کسی کو اپنی تاریخ کو نہیں بھولنا چاہئے کہ وہ کہاں سے آیا ہے۔
ہنری وڈس ورتھ لانگ فیلو نے 'دی بلڈرز' میں بتایا گیا ہے کہ کس طرح ملک کے ہر فرد کے تعاون سے ایک قوم کی تعمیر ہوتی ہے۔ ماضی اور حال دونوں کے لوگ مل کر کسی قوم کی ترقی کے لیے کام کرتے ہیں۔
نظم 'دی نیشن بلڈرز' ہمیں بتاتی ہے کہ مادی دولت کسی قوم کو مضبوط اور عظیم نہیں بناتی۔ مضبوط کردار کے لوگ ہی قوم بناتے ہیں۔ وہ لوگ جو حق اور عزت کے لیے قربانی دینے کے لیے تیار ہوں، جو ثابت قدم رہنے اور مصائب برداشت کرنے کے لیے تیار ہوں؛ وہی قوم کی مضبوط بنیاد رکھتے ہیں۔
شاعر ایک مثال پیش کرتا ہے جو کہتا ہے کہ معاشرے میں ہر فرد کا شمار ہوتا ہے۔ درحقیقت وہ کسی قوم یا معاشرے کا موازنہ فن تعمیر کے ایک ٹکڑے سے پیش کرتا ہے اور دلیل دیتا ہے کہ عمارت یا سماجی ڈھانچہ کے ہر ٹکڑے کی طرح ہر فرد پر انحصار کرتا ہے۔ کچھ عظیم ہیں اور کچھ نہیں ہیں۔ کچھ رہنما ہیں، جب کہ کچھ مصنفین ہیں، اور ہر ایک کا اپنا کام ہے۔ یہ پرانے زمانے میں ہوا کرتا تھا اور آئندہ بھی ہوتا رہے گا جب قومیں ہر فرد پر انحصار کرتی رہیں گی۔ وجہ یہ ہے کہ ہر فرد جس قوم یا معاشرے میں رہتا ہے اس کی شان کے لیے کام کرتا ہے۔ کچھ کے پاس بہت اچھا پورٹ فولیو ہو سکتا ہے، جبکہ کچھ کے پاس پوشیدہ ہو سکتا ہے۔ لیکن یہ سب مل کر قوم کو آسمان کو چھونے کے لیے کام کرتے ہیں۔ لہذا، ایک شخص کی انفرادیت پر انجامِ کار ہے۔
جیسا کہ اوپر دیا گیا ہے بلکل ایسا ہی پیغام کو مصنف جے آر آر ٹولکین کے ایک اور شاعرانہ اظہار کی مدد سے مزید واضح کیا جا سکتا ہے جنہوں نے اپنے فنی ناول "دی فیلوشپ آف دی رنگ" میں کچھ خوبصورت سطریں لکھی ہیں۔
دی فیلوشپ آف دی رِنگ انگریزی مصنف جے آر آر ٹولکین کے مہاکاوی ناول دی لارڈ آف دی رِنگز کی تین جلدوں میں سے پہلی ہے۔ ذیل میں اس کتاب سے ایک شاعرانہ کاوش کا ترجمہ پیش کیا جارہا ہے:-
" ہر چمکتی چیز سونا نہیں ہوتی "
سب قیمتی اشیاء سونے جیسے چمکدار نہیں ہوتے؛
سبھی آوارہ گمراہ نہیں ہوجاتے۔
جو مستحکم ہو؛ بوڑھا ہوکر کبھی مرجھایا نہیں کرتا؛
گہری جڑوں تک کہرا نہیں پہنچتا۔
راکھ سے آگ جگائی جاسکتی ہے۔
سائے سے روشنی پھوٹ پڑے گی؛
تلوار کی کند دھار کو تیز کیا جائےگا؛
تو پھر بے تاج بادشاہ بن جائے گا۔
اس کلام میں پیغام کیا ہے؟
اوپر کی نظم میں شاعرانہ حوالہ انسان کی چھپی ہوئی عظمت، لچک اور تجدید کے موضوعات کی عکاسی کرتی ہے۔ مجموعی طور پر، ٹولکین کی شعروں میں لچک، افراد کے اندر پوشیدہ صلاحیت، اور تجدید اور تبدیلی کی متغیر نوعیت کا جشن مناتی ہیں۔ زبان اور منظر کشی ٹولکین کی تحریر کی افسانوی اور لازوال معیار کی خصوصیت میں حصہ ڈالتی ہے۔
" سب قیمتی اشیاء سونے جیسے چمکدار نہیں ہوتے " سے پتہ چلتا ہے کہ حقیقی قدر ہمیشہ پہلی نظر میں ظاہر نہیں ہوسکتی۔

" جو مستحکم ہو؛ بوڑھا ہوکر کبھی مرجھایا نہیں کرتا؛ گہری جڑوں تک کہرا نہیں پہنچتا۔ " اس چیز کو نمایاں کرتی ہے کہ مضبوط اور گہری جڑیں رکھنے والے افراد وقت کی آزمائشوں کے خلاف برداشت کی طاقت سے جمے رہتے ہیں۔
"راکھ سے آگ جگائی جائے گی" کا مطلب پنر جنم اور مصیبت سے کسی کمزور کا طاقت سے ابھرنا ہے۔
" تلوار کی کند دھار کو تیز کیا جائےگا؛ تو پھر بے تاج بادشاہ بن جائے گا۔ " اس بات کو نمایاں کرتی ہے کہ انڈر ڈاگ کے عظمت کی طرف بڑھنے کے امکانات ہوتے ہیں۔
پیارے قارئین؛ اگر کسی میں گر کر اٹھنے کی تمنا اور ارادہ ہو؛ تو کوئی بھی چیز اسے اٹھ کر کھڑے ہونے اور جیت جانے سے نہیں روک سکتی اور اگر کوئی قوم عظمت اور بلندی کے سفر کی خواہش رکھتی ہے تو وہ ایک معقول تعداد میں اہل وطن کی اجتماعی کوششوں کرنی ہوتی ہے اور عالمی برادری سے عزت حاصل کرتی ہے۔ پیرس 2024 میں پاکستان کے جیولین تھرو اولمپک ریکارڈ ہولڈر ارشد ندیم اور بنگلہ دیش میں ابھرنے والے طلباء کی حالیہ مثالیں اس پیغام کو بلند اور واضح طور پر پیش کرتی ہیں۔
