A Power of Non-Invasive Ventilation to Breath in Fresh Air

Learn about the power and ability of non-invasive ventilation to support in breathing. Enhance the innovative healthcare techniques & advance your life quality.

Breathing is the basic necessity of our lives that we often take for granted. For people who are facing respiratory issues, each breath is a challenge. The power of non-invasive ventilation can restore the struggle of breathing for those who need it the most. But the question arises, “What is non invasive ventilation?” Non-invasive ventilation is a method of controlling air flow through your lungs without any invasive procedure.

Types of Non-Invasive Ventilation

Invasive ventilation involves the insertion of tubes into the airways for a controlled flow of air with masks or nasal prongs. Non-invasive ventilation is a process to support the respiratory system without the need for invasive procedures. It is a practical, comfortable and advantageous procedure at the same time. There are some non-invasive ventilation types discussed for a better understanding.

Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (CPAP):

It is a method of non-invasive ventilation that is used in the cure of obstructive sleep apnea (OSA). It helps to keep the airways open and proper flow of air through the airways during sleep to promote restorative sleep at night.

Bilevel Positive Airway Pressure (BiPAP):

This method is also helpful in sleep apnea, but it is also beneficial in severe respiratory disorders such as chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). COPD provides a higher and lower pressure for air intake during inhalation and to breathe air out during exhalation, respectively. The dual-pressure system enhances the breathing ability of an individual.

Positive End-Expiratory Pressure (PEEP):

This method is used in hospitals, especially in intensive care units (ICUs). The positive pressure is applied at the end of each breath to keep the alveoli open. It increases oxygenation and is helpful in conditions such as pneumonia and ARDS.

Volume-Assured Pressure Support (VAPS):

It is a method of non-invasive ventilation that adjusts the pressure of air applied to maintain a tidal volume during each breath. This method is specifically beneficial for those who are suffering from neuromuscular diseases.

Mechanical Insufflation-Exsufflation (MI-E):

This method of non-invasive ventilation is used for diseases or conditions leading to weakening cough muscles. It provides a burst of high positive pressure in inhalation followed by a negative pressure in exhalation to clear the mucus and help maintain breathing function properly. These different methods of non-invasive vent help other conditions to treat according to the respiratory needs. The selection of the process depends on the state of the patient after diagnosis.

Indications and Symptoms for Non-Invasive Ventilation

The need for non-invasive ventilation is indicated by specific symptoms and indications that occur. Here are some common non-invasive ventilation indications that you must know about.

·        Failure of the respiratory system

·        Acute exacerbations

·        Chronic respiratory conditions

·        Sleep-disordered breathing

·        Post-operative recovery

·        Neuromuscular illness

·        Palliative care

Symptoms of NIV include:

·        Difficulty breathing

·        Fast breathing

·        Lower oxygen levels

·        Excessive fatigue

·        Headaches in morning

·        Restless or no sleep

·        Disturbed mental status

·        Inability to say a complete sentence fluently

After all these symptoms are diagnosed, NIV can be a beneficial procedure to deal with breathing issues appropriately.

Challenges Associated with Non-Invasive Ventilation

With the use of NIV, there are some challenges you may face. The first challenge is the education level of the patient. For the successful application of non-invasive ventilation, proper education and training is required. It is necessary for the correct use of equipment, maintaining hygiene, and handling issues.

Another common challenge that you may face during non-invasive ventilation is a mask fit with comfort. The choice of cover is an essential task before you start the procedure. There are different non invasive ventilation mask types you can choose from.

·        Nasal masks, which are designed to cover your nose, are very lightweight and a less intrusive option.

·        The full-face mask covers both your nose and mouth and is helpful for those who keep their mouth open during sleep.

·        A nasal pillow mask directly fits into the nostrils of the patient.

·        Oral masks can be used for those who are not comfortable with covering their nose and mouth.

·        Hybrid mask is a versatile mask for those who are facing air leaks or are not comfortable.

·        A total face mask covers your whole face and can be effective for patients with some facial deformities.

·        Helmets are also used to cover the head to provide high positive pressure.

·        Pediatric masks are designed for children to wear quickly.

·        Custom-made masks are specially designed for the specific needs of the patients.

Non-Invasive Ventilation at Home

Non-invasive ventilation is a game changer in respiratory treatment; to provides breathing support without any invasive method. With the advancement in technology, NIV can be done in the comfort of your own house. It has made it feasible to do non invasive ventilation at home. Home-based non-invasive ventilation is a good option for some specific reasons, such as an improved quality of life, no more visits to a hospital, controlled comfort, and cost-effectiveness. NIV at home requires some key points that include training, monitoring, compliance, prescription and all the equipment used in the procedure.

Advantages of NIV at Home

Doing non-invasive ventilation at home has many advantages:

·        Comfort is the first thing that can lead to better adherence to therapy in your own home.

·        While going to hospitals, there is a higher risk of getting an infection. But at your home, maintain hygiene that will reduce the chances of getting infected.

·        You can take care of the patient by working closely at home, allowing you more personalized care.

·        Also, it can increase your quality of life by treating respiratory disorders.

There is a trilogy ventilator that is a precious tool used in the treatment of non-invasive ventilation. It provides better airflow to treat respiratory issues that can affect your breathing. Non invasive ventilation trilogy is the best tool to use.

Conclusion

Non-invasive ventilation is an effective method to transform the lives of people suffering from severe respiratory disorders. With the providence of fresh air directly into the lungs, it can improve oxygenation, improves the quality of life, reduce your visits to the hospital, and reduce the chances of invasive procedure. Fresh air is the necessary element, and NIV ensures the proper flow of air through your lungs. Despite any respiratory conditions, everyone can breathe in fresh air easily!
