What Is a Non-Domestic EPC?

A Non-Domestic EPC is a document that rates the energy efficiency of a commercial or public building. It uses a scale from A (most efficient) to G (least efficient), and is legally required when a building is:

• Built
• Sold
• Rented

The certificate includes information about the building’s energy use and typical energy costs, along with recommendations on how to improve energy efficiency.

Why You Need a Non-Domestic EPC

There are several reasons why having a valid EPC is essential:

• Legal Requirement: It is a legal obligation for landlords and property sellers to provide a current EPC.
• Energy Savings: The recommendations can help reduce energy bills and environmental impact.
• Increased Property Value: A better EPC rating can improve market appeal and rental value.
• Avoiding Penalties: Non-compliance can result in fines starting from £500 up to £5,000, depending on the building size and type.

Types of Non-Domestic EPCs

Non-domestic buildings are categorised into three levels:

• Level 3: Simple buildings such as small offices and shops.
• Level 4: More complex buildings including larger offices, restaurants, and retail spaces.
• Level 5: Advanced structures with complex heating, ventilation, or cooling systems.

At Coventry Property Certification, our accredited assessors are qualified to handle all levels, offering tailored assessments based on your building’s requirements.
