UEFA stands for Union of European Football Associations and is among the 6 central entities associated with football in Europe. It also oversees football in countries like Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan, Turkey, Cyprus, Armenia and Georgia. This union comprises 55 national members. When talking about Russian National teams or clubs, UEFA and FIFA suspended all of them from being part of any competition, due to Russian assault on Ukraine (2022). UEFA not only includes a number of Europe’s National Football Associations but also supervises the competitions conducted by the UEFA National League, UEFA Champions League, UEFA European Championship, UEFA Super Cup, and UEFA European Conference League.
UEFA CHAMPIONS LEAGUE 2023:
The UEFA Champions League 2023 is the 69th Football tournament of the European Club. It was earlier named as European Champion Club’s Cup. League’s final tournament will be held in London, at Wembley Stadium. The winners will ultimately be qualified for the UEFA Champions League 2024. They will also play in opposition to UEFA European League 2023 in UEFA Super Cup 2024. Moreover, these winners will get a chance to enter the FIFA Club World Cup 2025. There are 55 member associations of UEFA, out of which 78 teams will participate in the league. The champions of the UEFA Leagues 2023 have the advantage of getting an entry to the UEFA League 2024, even if they fail to qualify through the National League.
UEFA QALIFIYNG RANKINGS:
UEFA association coefficients 2022, allocates ranks for the National Associations for UEFA Champions League 2023. This allocation is on the basis of the overall performance of teams in European competitions over the period of 2018-2022. As Russian Associations are suspended, they are not ranked. Allocation of teams is not based on the UEFA association coefficient only, but almost five extra teams from each association are included in the Champions League as well. Qualifying Rounds:
The whole league starts with some qualifying rounds including the Preliminary round, 1st qualifying round, 2nd qualifying round, 3rd qualifying round, and a play-off round. UEFA EURO 2024:
The UEFA Euro 2024 Championship is going to be the 17th European football championship supervised by UEFA. This time Germany will host the championship, scheduled from 14, June – to 14, July 2024. Because of the hosting, Germany is already qualified for the UEFA Euro 2024. Qualifying rounds will be scheduled accordingly and the final matches will be played on 14, July 2024.
UEFA NATIONAL LEAGUE:
The third UEFA National League was started in 2022 and the final matches took place in June 2023. This time UEFA National League comprises almost 3 leagues from 16 teams. Teams from Netherlands, Spain, Italy and Croatia were qualified and the 1st semi-final was played on 14th June. Semifinals are scheduled in Rotterdam and Enschede on 14 & and 15 June 2023. The Final match was held on 18 June, and runner-ups were transferred to the 3rd play-off. According to the regulations, 3 places in UEFA Euro 2024 out of a total 24, were selected from the UEFA National League 2023’s play-offs. Almost 12 teams will be chosen according to their performance in UEFA National League 2023. For instance, if these teams get already qualified then best-ranked teams will be selected in the League. Russia couldn’t play in these groups and got fourth rank. There are 10 UEFA championship qualifying groups, categorized as groups A, B, C, D, E, F, G, H, I, and J.
