Turkish Airlines Baggage Allowance in 2026: Key Rules You Must Know

Understanding the Turkish Airlines baggage allowance in 2026 is essential for a smooth and stress-free journey, especially if you’re flying internationally. Turkish Airlines offers a generous baggage policy compared to many global carriers, but rules can vary based on route, cabin class, and ticket type. This guide breaks down the latest baggage rules, including carry-on size, checked baggage weight, and international allowances.

Turkish Airlines Baggage Allowance Overview

The Turkish Airlines baggage allowance system operates mainly on two concepts: the piece concept and the weight concept. Most international flights, particularly to and from the Americas, follow the piece concept, while other routes may apply weight-based limits. Always check your ticket details to confirm which system applies to your journey.

Turkish Airlines Carry-On Size and Rules

For cabin baggage, Turkish Airlines allows one carry-on bag and one personal item for most passengers.

Turkish Airlines carry on size limits (2026):

• Maximum dimensions: 55 x 40 x 23 cm (21.7 x 15.7 x 9 inches)
• Maximum weight: 8 kg (17.6 lbs)

Personal items may include a laptop bag, handbag, or small backpack that fits under the seat. Business Class passengers may be allowed an additional cabin bag depending on aircraft type and route.

Turkish Airlines Checked Baggage Weight Limits

The Turkish Airlines checked baggage weight allowance depends on travel class and route:

Economy Class

• Weight concept routes: 20–23 kg (44–50 lbs)
• Piece concept routes: 1 or 2 bags, each up to 23 kg

Business Class

• Weight concept routes: 30–32 kg (66–70 lbs)
• Piece concept routes: 2 bags, each up to 32 kg

Each checked bag must not exceed 158 cm (62 inches) in total dimensions (length + width + height).

Turkish Airlines Baggage Allowance International Flights

The Turkish Airlines baggage allowance international policy is especially traveler-friendly. On long-haul routes such as Europe to the USA, Canada, or Asia, passengers often receive higher baggage limits compared to regional flights. Star Alliance Gold members and Miles&Smiles Elite passengers may receive extra baggage benefits, including additional weight or an extra piece.

Excess and Special Baggage Rules

If your baggage exceeds the allowed size or weight, excess baggage fees will apply and vary by route. Special items such as sports equipment, musical instruments, and strollers may be accepted with prior approval. It’s recommended to pre-purchase excess baggage online for lower fees.

Tips to Avoid Extra Baggage Charges

• Weigh your bags before heading to the airport
• Confirm your route’s baggage concept
• Use a compact cabin bag within the approved size
• Consider loyalty status benefits
