Reminding people of faith how to prepare for Ramadan

Al Quran is the final Holy Book revealed upon the Last of Prophets Hazrat Muhammad (PBUH). The Quran & Sunnah is the only source of holy guidance as it entails detailed instructions for each and every walk of human life. Here guidance from Quran for the followers of Islam (تَذْكِيرُ أَهْلِ الإِيـِمَانِ بِكَـيْفـِيَّةِ الاستِعْدَادِ لـِرَمَضَانَ : Reminding people of faith how to prepare for Ramadan) is discussed wrt how an important pillar post of Islam i.e. Ramadan is to be observed by the faithful Muslims for better living from Quran and Hadith of Prophet ﷺ. This is an approved Jumma Khutba from the Sultanate of Oman and translated in English.

Reminding people of faith how to prepare for Ramadan

Praise be to ALLAH who honored us with the month of fasting, made it beloved to us, and rewarded us for good deeds. I bear witness that there is no god but ALLAH alone, without any partner. And I bear witness that our Master and Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him is the servant of ALLAH and His Messenger, the happiest of people in seasons of obedience, and the most keen on good deeds and what brings gain. May ALLAH’s ’s prayers and peace be upon him, his family, companions, and all who follow his approach until the Day of Judgment. This is the translation of the recited verses from Surah Al Baqara:

Surah Al Baqara – 183-184

O you who believe! Observing As-Saum (the fasting) is prescribed for you as it was prescribed for those before you, that you may become Al-Muttaqûn (the pious). (183) [Observing Saum (fasts)] for a fixed number of days, but if any of you is ill or on a journey, the same number (should be made up) from other days. And as for those who can fast with difficulty, (e.g. an old man), they have (a choice either to fast or) to feed a Miskîn (poor person) (for every day). But whoever does good of his own accord, it is better for him. And that you fast, is better for you if only you know.

Surah Al Baqara – 183-184

O servants of ALLAH: fear ALLAH with the truth of piety, and rejoice in ALLAH’s rituals in secret and in private ways. ALLAH says in Surah Yunus:

Say: "In the Bounty of Allâh, and in His Mercy (i.e. Islâm and the Qur'ân); -therein let them rejoice." That is better than what (the wealth) they amass.

Surah Yunus – 58

O, know this all - may ALLAH make the seasons of obedience dear to you - that the month of Ramadan is the best of months, and a season for earning rewards, in which believers rejoice, and it is the best of all. The pious and sincere people wait for it, and how can they not wait for it when “the gates of Paradise are opened and the gates of Hell are closed”?, and it is He who expiates sins, and draws near to the Knower of the Unseen: The five daily prayers, and Friday to Friday, and Ramadan to Ramadan, expiate what between them when he avoids major sins. About this, it has been revealed the guiding Book of our Lord, and His illuminating lamp, that reads in Surah Al Baqara:

The month of Ramadân in which was revealed the Qur'ân, a guidance for mankind and clear proofs for the guidance and the criterion (between right and wrong).

Surah Al Baqara – 185-Part

and at another place, ALLAH says in Surah Al Qadr

The night of Al-Qadr (Decree) is better than a thousand months (i.e. worshipping Allâh in that night is better than worshipping Him a thousand months, i.e. 83 years and 4 months)

Surah Al Qadr – 3

The righteous people realized the value and status of Ramadan, and they have been eagerly awaiting for it. To make them certain of the bounty it contains, and of the reward for the one who fasts and maintains it. The Companions - may ALLAH be pleased with them - were as stated in the narration: “They would pray to ALLAH for six months to make them reach Ramadan, then they would call on Him for six months. It is more likely that He will accept it from them.” Because they realized his great virtue and his great goodness, and that is why one of the scholars Ibn Rajab, may God have mercy on him, said: "Why should the believer not be given the glad tidings of the opening of the gates of Paradise? Why should the sinners not be given the glad tidings of the closing of the gates of Hellfire? Why should not the wise be given the glad tidings of the time in which Satan will be bound? To what age can this time be compared?"

O believers: The best thing that wise people can do to prepare for Ramadan, and race through it in order to please their Creator, is sincere repentance, which is the reason for every success. ALLAH Almighty says in Surah Al Noor

And all of you beg Allâh to forgive you all, O believers, that you may be successful.

Surah Al Noor – 31-Part

Regarding seeking forgiveness, the Prophet Peace Be Upon Him said, Seek forgiveness from your Lord, because I seek His forgiveness 100 times in a day.

So a person repents to his Lord for every sin between him and his Creator, and returns the rights that are between him and his servants. Among the preparations is the discharge of one’s obligation by making up what a person owed from the previous Ramadan until the month begins and he does not have any consequences. A Muslim should not delay making up what he owed from Ramadan until another Ramadan begins. Part of good preparation is the supplication of the believing servant that ALLAH will inform him of the witnesses of the seasons of obedience, the first of which is Ramadan, the month of closeness. How beautiful it is for a person to prepare for Ramadan by fasting some days of Sha`ban! He prepares for that holy month, and prepares for the fatigue and some of the hardship of fasting. On the authority of Aisha, the Mother of the Believers, may ALLAH be pleased with her, she said: I have never seen the Messenger of ALLAH complete the fast of a month except Ramadan, and I have never seen him fast more in a month than in Sha`ban.

O servants of ALLAH, fear ALLAH and take advantage of the times by preparing for the seasons of obedience.

I say what you hear, and I ask forgiveness from God Almighty for me and for you, so ask forgiveness from Him and He will forgive you, for He is the Forgiving and Merciful, and pray to Him and He will answer you, for He is The noble righteousness

Praise be to ALLAH Almighty, who has honored us with the love of good deeds, and made us keen to seize seasons of obedience throughout the ages, and I bear witness that there is no god but ALLAH. Alone with no partner, and I bear witness that our Master and Prophet Muhammad, Peace Be Upon Him is the servant of ALLAH and His Messenger, the best of those who fast, and the best of those who stand up at nights. May ALLAH’s prayers and peace be upon him and his family and good companions, and whoever follows their path until the Day of Judgment.

O servants of ALLAH, fear ALLAH and know that one of the best things a Muslim can prepare for Ramadan is to understand its rulings. For doing things with insight and guidance is the best thing that brings one closer to salvation on the Day of Resurrection, and for this reason the Holy Qur’an praises understanding in religion. ALLAH says in Surah Al Tawba:

Of every troop of them, a party only should go forth, that they (who are left behind) may get instructions in (Islâmic) religion, and that they may warn their people when they return to them, so that they may beware (of evil).

Surah Al Tawba – 43-Part

The Prophet Peace Be Upon Him, praised him - the most sincere greetings must be given to its owner - and he said: Whoever ALLAH desires good for, He will make him understand the religion. The Muslims must prepare for this by reading the rulings on fasting, learning and teaching his family, his clan, and his community. Because doing the matter with awareness and understanding is one of the best things that Islam strives for. It instills in the hearts of Muslims that they should approach the matter with knowledge and conviction, and not be like the fools whom the Beloved Chosen One mentioned when he said:

Do not be a fool, saying: If people do good, we will do good, and if they are wrong, we will be wrong.

O, msulims, fear ALLAH, and prepare for Ramadan with goodness, and welcome it with good tidings. It is a generous month, and its grace upon you is great.

O servants of ALLAH, fear ALLAH - and know that the best thing for you is to cling to high morals and noble qualities, taken from the Holy Book of ALLAH, and the Sunnah of His Noble Prophet, peace be upon him.

Please think deeply on the following, ALLAH says in Surah A; Baqara:

Shaitân (Satan) threatens you with poverty and orders you to commit Fahshâ (evil deeds, illegal sexual intercourse, sins); whereas Allâh promises you Forgiveness from Himself and Bounty, and Allâh is All-Sufficient for His creatures' needs, All-Knower. (268) He grants Hikmah to whom He pleases, and he, to whom Hikmah is granted, is indeed granted abundant good. But none remember (will receive admonition) except men of understanding. (269) And whatever you spend for spendings (e.g., in Sadaqah - charity, for Allâh's Cause) or whatever vow you make, be sure Allâh knows it all. And for the Zâlimûn (wrong-doers) there are no helpers. (270) If you disclose your Sadaqât (alms-giving), it is well, but if you conceal them, and give them to the poor, that is better for you. (Allâh) will expaite you some of your sins. And Allâh is Well-Acquainted with what you do. (271) Not upon you (Muhammad SAW) is their guidance, but Allâh guides whom He wills. And whatever you spend in good, it is for yourselves, when you spend not except seeking Allâh's Countenance. And whatever you spend in good, it will be repaid to you in full, and you shall not be wronged. (272) (Charity is) for Fuqarâ (the poor), who in Allâh's Cause are restricted (from travel), and cannot move about in the land (for trade or work). The one who knows them not, thinks that they are rich because of their modesty. You may know them by their mark, they do not beg of people at all.[] And whatever you spend in good, surely Allâh knows it well. (273) Those who spend their wealth (in Allâh's Cause) by night and day, in secret and in public, they shall have their reward with their Lord. On them shall be no fear, nor shall they grieve.

Surah Al Baqara – 268-274

Surah Al Ahzaab – 56

This is what they prayed and greeted the Imam of the Messengers. Muhammad is the guiding and trustworthy. Your Lord has commanded you to do that when He said Indeed, ALLAH and His kingdom send blessings upon the Prophet. O you who have believed, pray upon him and grant him peace.

Surah Al Ahzaab – 56

O God, bless and grant peace upon our Prophet Muhammad and upon the family of our Prophet Muhammad, as You prayed and peace upon our Prophet Abraham and upon the family of our Prophet Abraham, and bless our Prophet Muhammad and the family of our Prophet Muhammad, just as You blessed our Prophet Abraham and the family of our Prophet Abraham in the worlds. Indeed, You are Praiseworthy and Glorious. And be pleased, O God, with his rightly-guided caliphs, with his wives, the mothers of the believers, with all the Companions, with all the believing men and women, By your mercy, O Most Merciful of the Merciful, You are Praiseworthy and Glorious.

Oh God, make this gathering of us a merciful gathering, and make our separation after it an infallible separation, and do not leave among us or with us any wretched or deprived.

Oh God, honor Islam, guide Muslims to the truth, unite their words in goodness, break the power of the oppressors, and grant peace and security to your servants. All of them.

Oh God, O Ever-Living, O Ever-Living, O Possessor of Majesty and Honour, there is no god but You, Glory be to You, by You we seek refuge and by Your mercy we seek help, that you will not leave us to Our souls are within the blink of an eye, and nothing is closer than that. And rectify for us all our affairs, O Reconciliator, the affairs of the righteous.

Oh God, our Lord, protect our countries, honor our authority, support it with the truth, and support it with the truth, O Lord of the worlds. Oh God, bestow your blessing upon him, Support it with the light of your wisdom, guide it with your blessings, and protect it with your care.

May God bless you and grant you peace of mind. Blessings be upon you. May God bless you and grant you peace. Or Hamara, Sara Rizk, Jalal, or Izzat, Malik.

Oh God, my Lord, my heart, this world is my curse, and my hereafter is my curse, this world is a terrible torment.

Oh God! A believer is a Muslim, he is dead or his body is dead, he is dead or he is dead, he is dead or he is dead, he is close to you, his supplication is a religious answer or else he is dead.

Servants of God - Indeed, God commands justice and good deeds, and bestows favor on relatives, and forbids indecency. And the denier and the transgressor admonish you that you may remember.

Surah An Nahl-90
