The journey of preparation and the provisions for advancement

Praise be to ALLAH, who has provided opportunities for acts of obedience and filled them with virtues and rewards. I bear witness that there is no god but ALLAH alone, without partner. He has made the times a venue of competition to His pleasure and has prescribed what elevates hearts in His intimacy and closeness. And I bear witness that Muhammad, peace be upon him, is His servant and Messenger, the best of those who fasted, prayed, and seized the spoils. He guided his nation to the routes of goodness and its signs, and opened for them the paths of closeness and its stations. May the prayers and peace of ALLAH be upon him, his family, his companions, and all those who follow them in righteousness until the Day of Judgment. This is the translation of the recited verses from Surah Al Baqara:

O you who believe! Observing As-Saum (the fasting) is prescribed for you as it was prescribed for those before you, that you may become Al-Muttaqûn (183) [Observing Saum (fasts)] for a fixed number of days, but if any of you is ill or on a journey, the same number (should be made up) from other days. And as for those who can fast with difficulty, (e.g. an old man), they have (a choice either to fast or) to feed a Miskîn (poor person) (for every day). But whoever does good of his own accord, it is better for him. And that you fast, is better for you if only you know. (184) The month of Ramadân in which was revealed the Qur'ân, a guidance for mankind and clear proofs for the guidance and the criterion (between right and wrong). So whoever of you sights (the crescent on the first night of) the month (of Ramadân i.e. is present at his home), he must observe Saum (fasts) that month, and whoever is ill or on a journey, the same number [of days which one did not observe Saum (fasts) must be made up] from other days. Allâh intends for you ease, and He does not want to make things difficult for you. (He wants that you) must complete the same number (of days), and that you must magnify Allâh [i.e. to say Takbîr (Allâhu-Akbar; Allâh is the Most Great) for having guided you so that you may be grateful to Him. (185) And when My slaves ask you (O Muhammad SAW) concerning Me, then (answer them), I am indeed near (to them by My Knowledge). I respond to the invocations of the supplicant when he calls on Me (without any mediator or intercessor). So let them obey Me and believe in Me, so that they may be led aright. (186) It is made lawful for you to have sexual relations with your wives on the night of As-Saum (the fasts). They are Lîbas [i.e. body cover, or screen, or Sakan, (i.e. you enjoy the pleasure of living with them - as in Verse 7:189) Tafsir At-Tabarî], for you and you are the same for them. Allâh knows that you used to deceive yourselves, so He turned to you (accepted your repentance) and forgave you. So now have sexual relations with them and seek that which Allâh has ordained for you (offspring), and eat and drink until the white thread (light) of dawn appears to you distinct from the black thread (darkness of night), then complete your Saum (fast) till the nightfall. And do not have sexual relations with them (your wives) while you are in I'tikâf (i.e. confining oneself in a mosque for prayers and invocations leaving the worldly activities) in the mosques. These are the limits (set) by Allâh, so approach them not. Thus does Allâh make clear His Ayât (proofs, evidences, lessons, signs, revelations, verses, laws, legal and illegal things Allahs set limits orders.) to mankind that they may become Al- Muttaqun. (187)

Surah Al Baqara – 183-187

O servants of ALLAH: Fear ALLAH and Adopt piety and obey ALLAH. And reflect and prepare yourselves for the good, reward, mercy and righteousness that you are about to receive.

O Muslims: It is only a matter of days before the greatest of ALLAH's hospitalitys for His servants comes to us, breezes of mercy, gates of forgiveness, and opportunities for deliverance from the fires of Hell. Indeed, the best of your months, the month of Ramadan, is about to come upon you. The month of the Quran, forgiveness, and closeness to the Most Merciful, is the month in which ALLAH revealed His Book, as He, Exalted is He, says in Surah Al Baqara:

The month of Ramadân in which was revealed the Qur'ân, a guidance for mankind and clear proofs for the guidance and the criterion (between right and wrong).

Surah Al Baqara – 185-Part

And the month of the true promise of forgiveness for whoever is truthful with ALLAH in fasting, prayer, faith and expectation of reward, because he said: “Whoever fasts Ramadan with faith and expectation of reward, his previous sins will be forgiven.” And the month of the great good news of being freed from the fire, on every night of its blessed nights; for the Messenger of ALLAH gave good news of it by saying: “Indeed, Allah Almighty has people freed from the fire at every breaking of the fast, and that is on every night.” It is a month in which good deeds are multiplied, sins and transgressions are forgiven, the gates of Paradise are opened and the gates of Hell are closed, and Satan is chained. For this reason, it is fitting for the sincere believer and the discerning lover to prepare for Ramadan in the hope of being among its people; for the sign of sincere longing is preparing the necessary provisions, and the sign of love is showing affection. Have you seen someone who wants to travel to a distant land, and the time of his travel is approaching, but he has not prepared himself? Or the time of his travel has come, or is about to come, but he has not yet taken provisions? Indeed, your guest, the month of Ramadan – O beloved ones – is a great season. Woe to him who experiences it and does not prepare his heart for it, and woe to him who is deprived of its goodness and blessings.

O you who look for Ramadan: Indeed, preparation is not mere words spoken, nor is it simply decorating homes. Rather, it is steps taken by the sincere Muslim towards his goal with determination and resolve. He hopes for success from his Lord, and asks Him for guidance and help, making this his motto before, during, and after the month۔ ALLAH says in Surah Al Fatiha:

You (Alone) we worship, and You (Alone) we ask for help (for each and everything). (5) Guide us to the Straight Way. (6)

Surah Al Fatiha – 5-6

One of the ways to prepare for Ramadan is to prepare the heart for it with sincere and truthful repentance, and to purify the heart from its diseases that corrupt its well-being, such as hatred, malice, and envy; for ALLAH does not grant success to a sick heart. One of the ways to prepare for the month is to supplicate frequently that ALLAH may grant us to reach it while we are in the best of conditions, in safety and faith, and in health and tranquility; for health in bodies and security in homelands are among the greatest aids to making the most of Ramadan. May ALLAH preserve them for our country and for the countries of Muslims everywhere. Part of this preparation is also: improving and perfecting the obligatory acts, paying attention to and maintaining the voluntary acts, and developing a gradual training program for them, especially fasting and charity. And standing and reciting the Qur’an, so renew the covenant with these acts of worship - O servant of ALLAH - until you enter your month, and you have trained yourself to its duties, so that it has submitted its reins to you, and made its bridle obedient to you. Among the preparations for the holy month are: reducing distractions before its arrival, clearing the mind of its concerns, fulfilling the family’s basic needs for Ramadan, and buying Eid clothes and the like before the month begins. So that the month comes to you with your heart and mind, thoughts and time devoted to it. Part of preparing for the month is preparing the family and children to welcome Ramadan, and teaching them the virtue of fasting and prayer, and the jurisprudence of Ramadan’s acts and rulings. Holding competitions and offering gifts and rewards will motivate and encourage them, fostering healthy competition and incentives, so that your home becomes a faith-filled environment of obedience. ALLAH Almighty says in Surah At Tur:

And those who believe and whose offspring follow them in Faith, to them shall We join their offspring, and We shall not decrease the reward of their deeds in anything.

Surah At Tur – 21-Part

Fear ALLAH, O servants of ALLAH, and be truthful with ALLAH by preparing for Ramadan. Whoever is truthful with ALLAH, ALLAH will be truthful with him, grant him success, help him, guide him, and set his affairs right.

I say what you hear, and I ask forgiveness from ALLAH Almighty for me and for you, so ask forgiveness from Him and He will forgive you, for He is the Forgiving and Merciful, and pray to Him and He will answer you, for He is The noble righteousness

Praise be to Allah, the Generous, the Merciful, the One whose bounty and gifts are vast. He accepts repentance, pardons sins, and multiplies good deeds. I bear witness that there is no god but Allah alone, without partner. He takes care of the righteous and guides those who turn to Him in repentance. And I bear witness that Muhammad, peace be upon him, is His servant and Messenger, a mercy from ALLAH to the worlds, may prayers and peace be upon him forever until the Day of Judgment, and upon his family, his companions, and those who follow them in goodness until the Day of Judgment.

ALLAH Almighty has bestowed upon this nation a great blessing, as He has combined for it the mothers of the acts of worship of Islam in one month. He has combined for it prayer, which is the connection of the servant with his Lord, and fasting, by which souls are purified and hearts are refined. Zakat purifies wealth and revives the meanings of giving. Our Messenger prescribed Umrah during Ramadan, so the intention to visit the Sacred House was combined with fasting and prayer. It is as if all of Islam has gathered for its people in this blessed month, to achieve piety, to build the heart, and to correct the path. ALLAH Almighty says in Surah Al Baqara:

O you who believe! Observing As-Saum (the fasting)[] is prescribed for you as it was prescribed for those before you, that you may become Al-Muttaqûn.

Surah Al Baqara – 183

Let the wise person consider how to welcome this month, and how to prepare for it in heart and deed, and beware of wasting its days and nights; for Ramadan only comes once a year. And it may never return for some people. How many people were with us last Ramadan, fasting and praying, hoping for mercy and forgiveness, and today they are with a Most Generous, Most Merciful Lord. ALLAH, may His glory be exalted, says in Surah Al Hashr:

O you who believe! Fear Allâh and keep your duty to Him. And let every person look to what he has sent forth for the tomorrow, and fear Allâh. Verily, Allâh is All-Aware of what you do.

Surah Al Hashr – 18

O servants of ALLAH, the real fear is not that Ramadan will reach us, but rather that Ramadan will reach us and we will not have changed; we will not have purified our hearts, nor abandoned our sins, nor renewed our covenant with ALLAH. And the Prophet, peace be upon him, said. Perhaps a fasting person gains nothing from his fasting but hunger, and perhaps a person who prays at night gains nothing from his prayer but sleeplessness, because the worship has not turned into an effect and behavior.

So fear ALLAH, O believers, and make your Ramadan different in its effect, beginning with sincere repentance, regular and consistent prayer, and continuous good deeds. For whoever is truthful with ALLAH, ALLAH will be truthful with him, and whoever makes a good beginning will have a good end.

O servants of ALLAH, remember this command of ALLAH:

Say: "O 'Ibâdî (My slaves) who have transgressed against themselves (by committing evil deeds and sins)! Despair not of the Mercy of Allâh, verily Allâh forgives all sins. Truly, He is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful.

Surah Az Zumr – 53

Surah Al Ahzaab – 56

So pray and send peace upon the leader of the messengers, Muhammad, the guide and trustworthy. Your Lord has commanded you to do so when He said: “Indeed, Allah and His angels send blessings upon the Prophet. O you who have believed, send blessings upon him and salute him with a worthy salutation.”

He says in Surah Al Ahzab: ALLAH and His kingdom send blessings upon the Prophet. O you who have believed, pray upon him and grant him peace.

Surah Al Ahzaab – 56

O ALLAH, bless and grant peace upon our Prophet Muhammad and upon the family of our Prophet Muhammad, as You prayed and peace upon our Prophet Abraham and upon the family of our Prophet Abraham, and bless our Prophet Muhammad and the family of our Prophet Muhammad, just as You blessed our Prophet Abraham and the family of our Prophet Abraham in the worlds. Indeed, You are Praiseworthy and Glorious. And be pleased, O Allah, with his Rightly-Guided Caliphs, and with his wives, the Mothers of the Believers, and with all the rest of the Companions, and with the believing men and women, and with this gathering of ours, by Your mercy, O Most Merciful of the merciful.

Oh ALLAH, make this gathering of us a merciful gathering, and make our separation after it an infallible separation, and do not leave among us or with us any wretched or deprived.

Oh ALLAH, honor Islam, guide Muslims to the truth, unite their words in goodness, break the power of the oppressors, and grant peace and security to your servants. All of them.

O Allah, be a helper to our brothers in the blessed land of Al-Aqsa, be with them, strengthen them, strengthen their hearts, and grant them patience. Disappoint Your enemy and their enemy, and turn the tables on him, O Possessor of Majesty and Honor.

O Allah, we ask You for steadfastness in our affairs and determination to do what is right. We ask You for gratitude for Your blessings and proper worship of You. We ask You for sound hearts and truthful tongues. We ask You for the best of what You know and seek refuge in You from the worst of what You know. We seek Your forgiveness for what You know.

Oh ALLAH, O Ever-Living, O Ever-Living, O Possessor of Majesty and Honour, there is no god but You, Glory be to You, by You we seek refuge and by Your mercy we seek help, that you will not leave us to Our souls are within the blink of an eye, and nothing is closer than that. And rectify for us all our affairs, O Reconciliator, the affairs of the righteous.

Oh ALLAH, our Lord, protect our countries, honor our authority, support it with the truth, and support it with the truth, O Lord of the worlds. Oh God, bestow your blessing upon him, support it with the light of your wisdom, guide it with your blessings, and protect it with your care.

O ALLAH, send down upon us from the blessings of the sky and bring forth for us from the goodness of the earth, and bless for us our fruits and our crops and all our provisions, O Possessor of Majesty and Generosity.

Our Lord, give us good in this world and good in the Hereafter and protect us from the punishment of the Fire.

O ALLAH, forgive the believing men and women, the Muslim men and women, the living and the dead among them. Indeed, You are the All-Hearing, the Near, the Answerer of supplications.

O servants of ALLAH - Indeed, ALLAH commands justice and good deeds, and bestows favor on relatives, and forbids indecency. And the denier and the transgressor admonish you that you may remember.

Surah An Nahl-90
