Pakistan vs South Africa: Imam, Masood, Rizwan and Agha fifties in 1st Test

A strong opening day for Pakistan against South Africa was highlighted by a 161-run second-wicket partnership between Imam-ul-Haq and Shan Masood, and an unbeaten 114-run sixth-wicket stand between Mohammad Rizwan and Salman Agha. All four batsmen scored fifties, with Imam narrowly missing a century by seven runs.

The Lahore pitch began showing signs of wear by the third session, making early first-innings runs valuable. South Africa struggled to contain Pakistan’s batting, taking three wickets without adding runs around tea but failing to prevent a strong total, aided by four dropped catches.

South Africa’s bowling attack included three spinners and two seamers but lacked extensive Test experience. The spin trio bowled extensively and took four wickets while demonstrating the pitch was turning.

Pakistan lost an early wicket to Kagiso Rabada but Masood quickly countered with aggressive hitting, setting the tone. Imam anchored the innings, effectively handling the spinners and reaching fifty off 65 balls. Masood continued his steady innings but eventually fell lbw to Prenelan Subrayen.

Captain Babar Azam’s entrance electrified the crowd, and though initially dismissed caught behind, a successful review reinstated him. He then scored confidently until South Africa applied pressure, dismissing key wickets including Imam and Shakeel.

Pakistan vs South Africa, Rizwan and Agha built a resilient partnership, with Rizwan attacking strongly and Agha supporting steadily. Rizwan narrowly survived a couple of difficult reviews and reached his fifty as Pakistan closed the day in a commanding position.
