Be with the truthful

Al Quran is the final Holy Book revealed upon the Last of Prophets Hazrat Muhammad (PBUH). The Quran & Sunnah is the only source of holy guidance as it entails detailed instructions for each and every walk of human life. Here guidance from Quran for the followers of Islam (وَكُونُوا مَعَ الصَّادِقِينَ : Be with the truthful) is discussed wrt commandment to remain with "Truthful" for better living from Quran and Hadith of Prophet ﷺ. This is an approved Jumma Khutba from the Sultanate of Oman and translated in English.

In the name of ALLAH, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful

Be with the truthful.

Praise be to Allah, in whose promise hearts find peace, and by whose law life is guided. I bear witness that there is no god but Allah, the One, without partner, who made truthfulness a salvation for its people and an elevation for His servants. I bear witness that our master Muhammad, peace be upon him, is His servant and messenger, the most truthful of people in speech and the most trustworthy. He was known among his people for his truthfulness. By the truthful and trustworthy one, may ALLAH's prayers and peace be upon him, his family, his companions, and all those who follow his path until the Day of Judgment. This is the translation of the recited verse from Surah Al Maeda:

Allâh will say: "This is a Day on which the truthful will profit from their truth: theirs are Gardens under which rivers flow (in Paradise) - they shall abide therein forever. Allâh is pleased with them and they with Him. That is the great success (Paradise).

Surah Al Maeda – 119

O servants of ALLAH: Fear ALLAH and Adopt piety and obey ALLAH. Know that truthfulness is the spirit of faith, the pillar of trust, and the foundation of civilization. That is why ALLAH commanded it, saying in Surah At Tawba:

O you who believe! Be afraid of Allâh, and be with those who are true (in words and deeds)

Surah At Tawba – 119

O servants of ALLAH: Indeed, truthfulness in words, deeds, and circumstances is the key to happiness in this life and the hereafter. It is a light that dwells in the heart, a righteousness that manifests in one's actions, and a harmony between inner self and outward appearance, and between word and deed. It is salvation in this world and the next, to the point that ALLAH Almighty describes Himself with it, saying in Surah An Nisa:

and whose words can be truer than those of Allâh? (Of course, none).

Surah An Nisa – 122-Part

And He, Blessed be His Name, says in Surah An Nisa:

And who is truer in statement than Allâh?

Surah An Nisa – 87-Part

And He made it the most prominent characteristic of His prophets and messengers, so they were known among their people only for their truthfulness and trustworthiness. And the highest rank after prophethood was that of the truthful ones.

And the greatest truthfulness is the truthfulness of the heart with ALLAH in sincerity and faith, the truthfulness of the tongue in speech, and the truthfulness of the limbs in deeds. So that a person's outward appearance may be in accordance with his inner self, and his words may bear witness to his actions, with no contradiction or hypocrisy. That is why ALLAH Almighty commanded it in His Book, saying in Surah At Tawba:

O you who believe! Be afraid of Allâh, and be with those who are true (in words & deeds)

Surah At Tawba – 119

The Prophet, may ALLAH bless him and grant him peace, gave his family good tidings, saying: “Indeed, truthfulness leads to righteousness, and righteousness leads to Paradise.” So, what good tidings for the truthful, and what a great station it is, that the path to Paradise should be a word of truth, a heart of truth, and a life of truth.

O believers: Indeed, truthfulness is the soul of society that preserves its cohesion, and the safety valve that protects it from disintegration, suspicion, and deception. No society has ever adhered to truthfulness without trust growing within it, hearts finding peace, and people feeling secure in their words, dealings, and promises. Through honesty, societies are transformed from individuals who fear and plot against one another, into a solid structure where each part strengthens the other. Because when people are truthful, they feel secure; when they feel secure, they cooperate; and when they cooperate, their societies become stronger and their structure is reinforced. And one of the greatest forms of truthfulness is truthfulness in dealings. For trade is not sustained by money alone, but by trust. That is why the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “The two parties to a transaction have the option [to cancel] as long as they have not separated. If they are truthful and clear in their dealings, their transaction will be blessed.” Truthfulness brings blessings, cultivates tranquility, and ensures that transactions are based on clarity, not deception, and on honesty, not exploitation. Another form of truthfulness is truthfulness in testimonies and reports; through it, rights are protected, the judiciary is strengthened, institutions are made upright, and people feel secure regarding their interests and property. Also included is truthfulness in promises and covenants. For societies cannot be stable if words become unfulfilled and promises uncommitted. ALLAH Almighty has praised the people of truthfulness and loyalty, saying in Surah Al Baqara:

and who fulfill their covenant when they make it, and who are patient in extreme poverty and ailment (disease) and at the time of fighting (during the battles). Such are the people of the truth, and they are Al¬Muttaqûn (pious - see V.2:2)

Surah Al Baqara – 119

Fear ALLAH, O servants of ALLAH, and be truthful with ALLAH, and be truthful with the servants of ALLAH. For through truthfulness you will attain blessing and security in your society, for it is a light in the hearts, steadfastness in situations, a blessing in provisions, and a reason for the salvation of the servant on the day he meets his Creator.

I say what you hear, and I ask forgiveness from ALLAH Almighty for me and for you, so ask forgiveness from Him and He will forgive you, for He is the Forgiving and Merciful, and pray to Him and He will answer you, for He is The noble righteousness

Praise be to Allah, the Guardian of the truthful. I bear witness that there is no god but Allah alone, without partner. And I bear witness that Muhammad, peace be upon him, is His servant and Messenger. Peace and blessings be upon him, and upon his family and all his companions, and those who follow them in goodness until the Day of Judgment.

O Muslims: Know that truthfulness is among the noblest of virtues by which societies are elevated, trust is established among people, and transactions are made upright. It is a light in the hearts, a blessing in deeds, and a safeguard against the causes of conflict and turmoil. And if people today are in dire need of truthfulness, then it is our duty to make it present in our words and deeds, in compliance with the Almighty’s saying in Surah Al Baqara:

O you who believe! Be afraid of Allâh, and be with those who are true (in words and deeds)

Surah At Tawba – 119

Among the signs of truthfulness that people need in our time is verifying what they hear and investigating what they transmit. For the word is a trust, and its owner is responsible for it before ALLAH. The Qur’an has drawn attention to this great principle, as He, Glory be to Him, says in Surah Al Hujraat:

O you who believe! If a Fasiq (liar — evil person) comes to you with any news, verify it,

Surah Al Hujraat – 6-Part

Indeed, building truthfulness – O servants of ALLAH – begins with the family, when children see truthfulness present in the words of their fathers and mothers, and in their promises and dealings, so values are established by example before words, and morals are planted by practice before guidance. And in the hadith on the authority of Abdullah bin Amer, may ALLAH be pleased with him, he said: My mother called me one day while the Messenger of ALLAH, may ALLAH bless him and grant him peace, was sitting in our house, and she said: Come, I will give you something. So the Messenger of ALLAH, may ALLAH bless him and grant him peace, said to her: ((What did you intend to give him?)) She said: I will give him dates. So he, may ALLAH bless him and grant him peace, said: ((But if you had not done so, a lie would have been recorded against you)). This was the guidance of the Prophet, may ALLAH bless him and grant him peace, in building truthfulness, instilling it in souls from a young age, because great values begin with simple situations, and if generations grow up on truthfulness and trustworthiness, trust will be strengthened among people, and the values of integrity and loyalty will be established. Therefore, it was important for societies to elevate the status of trustworthy and honest people, and to highlight shining examples, so that honesty becomes a virtue and a model that future generations aspire to.

Fear ALLAH, O servants of ALLAH, and hold fast to truthfulness in secret and in public, and in promises and covenants, and raise your children upon it; for truthfulness is the foundation of trust, the pillar of honesty, and the cause of the blessing of words and deeds. And when hearts are truthful, souls are at peace, societies are united, and people live in security and harmony.
