This is an approved Jumma Khutba from the Sultanate of Oman and translated in English.

In the name of ALLAH, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful

مِنْ دَلائِلِ الوَعْيِ الوَفَاءُ بِالعَهْدِ

One of the signs of awareness is fulfillment of a covenant

Praise be to Allah, Who said about making a promise: Fulfill your promise, surely the promise will be fulfilled. I bear witness that there is no god but Allah, He alone, He has no partner, He sent a Messenger of Allah, may God bless him and grant him peace, to the worlds, who enjoined honesty and forbade breaking promises and treachery. . I bear witness that Muhammad, may God's prayers and peace be upon him, is the servant of Allah and His Messenger, who is excellent in fulfilling his covenants and keeping his promises. Peace and blessings be upon you, upon your family, companions, and those who will continue to follow them with good deeds until the Day of Resurrection - Translation of the recited verse

And fulfill the Covenant of Allâh (Bai'a: pledge for Islâm) when you have covenanted, and break not the oaths after you have confirmed them, and indeed you have appointed Allâh your surety. Verily! Allâh knows what you do. (91)

Surah An Nahl – 91

O people of Allah, fear Allah - be righteous and obey Allah and hasten to please Him, and run towards His blessings and gardens, and know, may Allah have mercy on us all, may Allah bless us. And Allah commanded to fulfill the covenant in Surah Al-Nahl, “And fulfill the Covenant of Allâh (Bai'a: pledge for Islâm) when you have covenanted”

Surah An Nahl – 91-Part

Allah the Exalted said that keeping a promise is one of the characteristics of the righteous in Surah Al-Baqarah

and who fulfill their covenant when they make it, and who are patient in extreme poverty and ailment (disease) and at the time of fighting (during the battles). Such are the people of the truth and they are Al¬Muttaqûn

Surah Al Baqara – 177-Part

O you who believe, Allah Subhanahu Taala, Glorified and Exalted be He, has described in Surat al-Ra'd about those people who have the understanding not to break the covenant.

Those who fulfil the Covenant of Allâh and break not the Mîthâq (bond, treaty, covenant); (20)

Surah Al Raad – 20

Servants of Allah, in fact, if a person violates his promise, he will be one of the hypocrites.

So He punished them by putting hypocrisy into their hearts till the Day whereon they shall meet Him, because they broke that (covenant with Allâh) which they had promised to Him and because they used to tell lies. (77)

Surah Al Tawba – 77

O believers, this verse is interpreted from a blessed hadith of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, that the Prophet, peace and blessings of God be upon him, said, There are four characteristics: Whoever has one of them is a pure hypocrite, among them A single attribute is an attribute of hypocrisy until he abandons it. When he is trusted, he betrays, when he speaks, he lies, when he promises, he betrays, and when he quarrels, he is cruel.

It is narrated that: A generous person loves a generous person only for one meeting and a mean person does not treat anyone except out of desire and fear.

Covenants are of two kinds: One is the covenant with Allah, the Exalted and Exalted, which means to abide by His limits, not to associate anyone with Him, and to worship Him as Allah Almighty has said.

And (remember) when your Lord brought forth from the Children of Adam, from their loins, their seed (or from Adam's loin his offspring) and made them testify as to themselves (saying): "Am I not your Lord?" They said: "Yes! We testify," lest you should say on the Day of Resurrection: "Verily, we have been unaware of this." (172) Or lest you should say: "It was only our fathers afortime who took others as partners in worship along with Allâh, and we were (merely their) descendants after them; will You then destroy us because of the deeds of men who practised Al-Bâtil (i.e. polytheism and committing crimes and sins, invoking and worshipping others besides Allâh)?" (Tafsir At-Tabarî) (173)

Surah Al Araf-172-173

This is what is meant in this verse: Did I not command for you, O Children of Adam, that you should not worship Shaitân (Satan). Verily, he is a plain enemy to you. (60) And that you should worship Me [Alone — Islâmic Monotheism, and set up not rivals, associate-gods with Me]. That is the Straight Path.[] (61)

Surah Yaeen – 60-61

It is a covenant between a person and his brother or generally with a person mentioned in the verse “And fulfill the Covenant of Allâh (Bai'a: pledge for Islâm) when you have covenanted.”

Surah An Nahl – 91-Part

In general, there are many forms of faithfulness in the payment of debt. It is narrated from the Prophet (peace be upon him). Whoever wants to take it and destroy it, Allah will destroy it.

Fidelity between husband and wife is a promise that one of them will not oppress the other and will not attack him without reason and will pay the laborer his wages, this is also a promise of fidelity. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: Give the laborer his wages before his sweat dries up.

The same applies to the worker's loyalty to his work. Just as the owner of the house must fulfill by paying the ahrat, so the laborer must also fulfill what he agreed with the contracting party, and O people, do not forget the fulfillment of the vow, because Allah Allah has praised the believer by saying this: They (are those who) fulfill (their) vows, and they fear a Day whose evil will be wide-spreading. (7)

Surah Al Insan – 7

It has also been mentioned by the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) that whoever vowed to obey Allah should obey Him and whoever vowed to disobey Allah should not disobey Him.

This is part of the wisdom of Islam. Among the vows taken in connection with a sin, there is no such thing as obeying it, but seeking forgiveness from Allah, the Most High, for this sin through repentance and forgiveness. And this is also one of the manifestations of convenience. Because a person can repent and take back this vow, then he has no choice but to fulfill it in order to simplify the Shariah and keep the Shariah objectives in mind.

Allah's command to fulfill a promise does not mean that many promises should be made, but a wise person should promise as little as possible. Because in making too many promises, there is a risk of under-promising. Due to the circumstances that happen to a person, he may forget, it may be difficult for him to keep a promise, and his opinion may change. Therefore, a person should limit it and not resort to it unnecessarily, so he should only make a promise that he has the strength to fulfill and fulfill it.

But, it is a mistake that must be corrected, those who fall into it must be admonished and guided. Because a promise is a restriction and the restriction is heavy on the self and man does not resort to it except out of necessity, how can a person restrain himself from many promises, not knowing whether he will be able to fulfill them or not. Whether it is or not, it has been said that those who are slowest to make promises are the most cautious in keeping them, for a wise man makes a thousand calculations before making a promise. Because on the one hand, he is afraid that if he does not fulfill the promise, he will be caught in the sin of breach of promise, and on the other hand, he does not know what conditions Allah Almighty will write for him in the coming days.

So, servants of Allah, fear Allah and fulfill the covenant for Allah, and He will give a great reward and a good reward, and do not betray the covenant. Because it is not the action of the believers, nor does it guide the faithful and sincere people.

=========================================================

O servants of Allah, fear Allah. There are benefits and fruits of fulfilling the covenant, and the greatest of them is a great reward, “O servants of Allah, fear Allah. There are benefits and fruits of fulfilling the covenant, and the greatest of them is a great reward.”

Surah Al Ahzab – 23

And Allah Ta'ala also explained the reward and said, “and whosoever fulfils what he has covenanted with Allâh, He will bestow on him a great reward. (10)”

Surah Al Fatah – 10-Part

The desire to attain piety is also by fulfilling promises. As the Lord Almighty said, fulfilling the covenant will lead to piety. “And (O Children of Israel, remember) when We took your covenant and We raised above you the Mount (saying): "Hold fast to that which We have given you, and remember that which is therein so that you may become Al-Muttaqûn (the pious - see V.2:2). (63)”

Surah Al Baqara – 63

Winning the love of Allah Ta'ala is one of its fruits, “So long, as they are true to you, stand you true to them. Verily, Allâh loves Al-Muttaqûn (the pious - see V.2:2) (7)

Surah At Tawbah - 7

It has numerous benefits, people are sure about their money and if he makes a promise to them, they will be sure that his promise will be fulfilled. And if they agreed with them in any matter, they were not afraid to break it or to disagree with it, so that the society was harmonious, and each one had a good opinion of his brothers about every promise he made. keeps And He accomplishes everything and fulfills what He promises. Because he is responsible for his promise and whenever this beautiful character prevails, people are happy. They will be confident in their dealings with others. Because of their belief in the fear of His Lord, and to fulfill His will which He has done to Himself.

So, O people of Allah, fear Allah and make fulfilling the covenant the basis of your life and the way of your elevation and progress. You will get a great reward from Allah.
