مَعَالِمُ النَّجَاحِ مِنَ الهِجْرَةِ النَّبَوِيَّةِ: Success Signs from the Prophet’s Migration

Al Quran is the final Holy Book revealed upon the Last of Prophets Hazrat Muhammad (PBUH). The Quran & Sunnah is the only source of holy guidance as it entails detailed instructions for each and every walk of human life. Here guidance from Quran for the followers of Islam (مَعَالِمُ النَّجَاحِ مِنَ الهِجْرَةِ النَّبَوِيَّةِ: Success Signs from the Prophet’s Migration) is discussed wrt the importance of migration of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) from Makkah to Medina for Islamic Civilization for better living from Quran and Hadith of Prophet ﷺ. This is an approved Jumma Khutba from the Sultanate of Oman and translated in English.

أَعُوذُ بِاللّٰهِ مِنَ الشَّيْطَانِ الرَّجِيمِ

بِسۡمِ ٱللهِ ٱلرَّحۡمَـٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ

In the name of ALLAH, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful

مَعَالِمُ النَّجَاحِ مِنَ الهِجْرَةِ النَّبَوِيَّةِ

Signs of success from the Prophet’s migration

All praise is due to Allah, Lord of the Worlds, Who facilitated the migration of His Messenger and made it a light that illuminated cities and kingdoms. I bear witness that there is no god but Allah alone, without partner, and I bear witness that our master and prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him, is the servant of Allah and His Messenger, the best of those who migrated to their Lord and obeyed Him, and called to the noblest principles and ideals. May the blessings and peace of Allah be upon him, his family, and his companions. They believed in him, supported him, followed him, and aided him, and upon all who are guided by his guidance until the Day of Judgment. This is the translation of the recited verse from Surah Al Tawba:

أَمَّا بَعْدُ، فاعوذ باللہ من الشیطان الرجیم- بسم اللہ الرحمن الرحیم

إِلَّا تَنصُرُوهُ فَقَدۡ نَصَرَهُ ٱللَّهُ إِذۡ أَخۡرَجَهُ ٱلَّذِينَ ڪَفَرُواْ ثَانِىَ ٱثۡنَيۡنِ إِذۡ هُمَا فِى ٱلۡغَارِ إِذۡ يَقُولُ لِصَـٰحِبِهِۦ لَا تَحۡزَنۡ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ مَعَنَا‌ۖ فَأَنزَلَ ٱللَّهُ سَڪِينَتَهُ ۥ عَلَيۡهِ وَأَيَّدَهُ ۥ بِجُنُودٍ۬ لَّمۡ تَرَوۡهَا وَجَعَلَ ڪَلِمَةَ ٱلَّذِينَ ڪَفَرُواْ ٱلسُّفۡلَىٰ‌ۗ وَڪَلِمَةُ ٱللَّهِ هِىَ ٱلۡعُلۡيَا‌ۗ وَٱللَّهُ عَزِيزٌ حَكِيمٌ

If you help him (Muhammad SAW) not (it does not matter), for Allâh did indeed help him when the disbelievers drove him out, the second of two, when they (Muhammad SAW and Abu Bakr radhiallahu'anhu) were in the cave, and he (SAW) said to his companion (Abu Bakr radhiallahu'anhu): "Be not sad (or afraid), surely Allâh is with us." Then Allâh sent down His Sakînah (calmness, tranquillity, peace) upon him, and strengthened him with forces (angels) which you saw not, and made the word of those who disbelieved the lowermost, while the Word of Allâh that became the uppermost, and Allâh is All-Mighty, All-Wise.

Surah Al Tawba – 40

O servants of ALLAH: Fear ALLAH and Adopt piety and obey ALLAH. ALLAH says in Surah Al Hadeed:

يَـٰٓأَيُّہَا ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُواْ ٱتَّقُواْ ٱللَّهَ وَءَامِنُواْ بِرَسُولِهِۦ يُؤۡتِكُمۡ كِفۡلَيۡنِ مِن رَّحۡمَتِهِۦ وَيَجۡعَل لَّڪُمۡ نُورً۬ا تَمۡشُونَ بِهِۦ وَيَغۡفِرۡ لَكُمۡ‌ۚ وَٱللَّهُ غَفُورٌ۬ رَّحِيمٌ۬

O you who believe [in Mûsa (Moses) (i.e. Jews) and 'Īsā (Jesus) (i.e. Christians)]! Fear Allâh, and believe in His Messenger (Muhammad SAW), He will give you a double portion of His Mercy, and He will give you a light by which you shall walk (straight), and He will forgive you. And Allâh is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful.

Surah Al Hadid – 28

Know, O believers, that significant milestones in history are beacons by which events are recorded and time is measured. Therefore, as we commemorate the anniversary of the Prophet's migration, it is fitting that we pause in reverence before the radiant light of that life, illuminated by hope and based upon a penetrating vision of the future, grounded in... Recalling the traditions of history and the lessons they contain, because whoever looks at the noble journey of the Prophet’s migration will find that it is an intellectual and behavioral school. It teaches us lessons in faith, planning, brotherhood, and patience. So how can we draw inspiration from it for our lives? And how can we benefit from its passing over us every year? So that the Muslim may renew his life with it, striving to improve his condition, making his day better than his yesterday, his tomorrow better than his today, and his new year better than his past year, thus seeking the pleasure of ALLAH Almighty, repenting from mistakes and slips, increasing his zeal and activity to do good deeds, achieve his goals, and rise towards a better life and conduct.

Brothers in faith: The Prophet's migration was a migration that embodied the characteristics of the patient believer, one who anticipates ALLAH's promise, is optimistic about tomorrow, and looks to the future with hopeful eyes, despite the difficulty and severity of the situation, and the closing and blocking of all doors. ALLAH Almighty says in Surah Al Tawba:

إِذۡ أَخۡرَجَهُ ٱلَّذِينَ ڪَفَرُواْ ثَانِىَ ٱثۡنَيۡنِ إِذۡ هُمَا فِى ٱلۡغَارِ إِذۡ يَقُولُ لِصَـٰحِبِهِۦ لَا تَحۡزَنۡ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ مَعَنَا‌ۖ

when the disbelievers drove him out, the second of two, when they (Muhammad SAW and Abu Bakr radhiallahu'anhu) were in the cave, and he (SAW) said to his companion (Abu Bakr radhiallahu'anhu): "Be not sad (or afraid), surely Allâh is with us."

Surah Al Tawba – 40-Part

And that are the words that summarizes the whole secret of certainty; for he who finds ALLAH has lost nothing, for hope connected to ALLAH has a profound effect and an effective result. It makes its owner strong and able to endure the waves of sorrows and pains, and it makes his determination burning and renewed, so that he sails with its ship the sea of hardships and difficulties. The Prophet of Mercy and Guidance was keen to instill hope in the hearts of his noble companions, especially at the beginning of the call to Islam, when opposition was at its fiercest, the power of the disbelievers was at its peak, and the whips of torture and displacement were lashing harshly. Therefore, it was essential for souls to have hope to dwell within them and reassure them. So the Chosen One would remind his companions... With hope for victory and empowerment, he said: And by God, this matter will surely be completed. So have faith in your Lord, and place your hopes upon Him. Do not despair or lose hope, for we cannot do without hope, no matter how difficult life becomes, how numerous its misfortunes, and how successive its hardships. After hardship comes ease, and after distress comes relief. So be with ALLAH, and ALLAH will be with you, a supporter, a protector, and a helper.

O you who follow in the footsteps of your noble Prophet, peace be upon him: You see that he did not leave his migration to chance, but rather he wrapped his trust in ALLAH Almighty in sound planning and beautiful management. Wisdom and the application of reason in matters do not contradict faith in ALLAH. We have in him an example in managing the affairs of our lives. The Almighty Lord says in Surah Al Ahzab:

لَّقَدۡ كَانَ لَكُمۡ فِى رَسُولِ ٱللَّهِ أُسۡوَةٌ حَسَنَةٌ۬ لِّمَن كَانَ يَرۡجُواْ ٱللَّهَ وَٱلۡيَوۡمَ ٱلۡأَخِرَ وَذَكَرَ ٱللَّهَ كَثِيرً۬ا

Indeed in the Messenger of Allâh (Muhammad SAW) you have a good example to follow for him who hopes for (the Meeting with) Allâh and the Last Day and remembers Allâh much.

Surah Al Ahzab – 21

Let us pause and reflect on the lessons taught to us by the Messenger of ALLAH in his planning for the migration from Mecca to Medina, foremost among them being how to plan meticulously and thoroughly to reach the goals we aspire to achieve and the objectives we seek to attain. Setting a clear and well-defined plan that puts the goals into a practical and implementable program is what the Messenger of ALLAH, peace be upon him, did after ALLAH permitted him to migrate to Medina. He made the goal in this stage to be a safe exit from Mecca and arrival in Medina. Therefore, he took the steps of precise planning. By distributing roles among a team, each according to their abilities and capabilities, from the companion on the journey and the road watcher to the one who brings food and the one who erases traces, yes, he took all possible precautions and planned for a safe exit with all that humans could do in that regard, teaching the nation planning, taking precautions, and being wary, along with The heart’s attachment to ALLAH Almighty, from Him success and good fortune are derived, and by being close to Him hearts find peace and souls find rest.

Fear ALLAH, O servants of ALLAH, and strive, may ALLAH have mercy on you, to emulate him in thought and behavior; for in that lies the secret of your success, and through it your goals will be achieved, you will reach your objectives, and your societies will be reformed.

أقولُ مَا تَسْمَعُونَ، وَأَسْتَغْفِرُ اللهَ العَظِيمَ لِي وَلَكُمْ، فَاسْتَغْفِرُوهُ يَغْفِرْ لَكُمْ، إِنَّهُ هُوَ الغَفُورُالرَّحِيمُ، وَادْعُوهُ يَسْتَجِبْ لَكُمْ، إِنَّهُ هُوَ البَرُّ الكَرِيمُ

I say what you hear, and I ask forgiveness from ALLAH Almighty for me and for you, so ask forgiveness from Him and He will forgive you, for He is the Forgiving and Merciful, and pray to Him and He will answer you, for He is The noble righteousness.

الحَمْدُ للهِ الهَادِي إِلَى الرَّشَادِ، وَنَشْهَدُ أَنْ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللهُ وَحْدَهُ لا شَرِيـكَ لَهُ، وَنَشْهَدُ أَنَّ سَيِّدَنَا مُحَمَّدًا رَسُولُ اللهِ، سَيِّدُ الأَشْهَادِ صَلاةً وَسَلامًا دَائِمَيْنِ إِلَى يَوْمِ الدِّينِ، وَعَلَى آلِهِ وَأَصْحَابِهِ والمُقتَفينَ خُطاهُ إِلَى يَوْمِ المَعَادِ

Praise be to Allah, the Guide to Righteousness. We bear witness that there is no god but Allah alone, without partner. We bear witness that our master Muhammad, peace be upon him, is the Messenger of Allah, the Master of Witnesses. May prayers and peace be upon him forever until the Day of Judgment, and upon his family, his companions, and those who follow his path until the Day of Resurrection.

O Muslims: Just as the noble Prophetic migration taught us lessons in the importance of planning our lives and days, reflecting on our choices, and being deliberate in our decisions, it also provides, for those who contemplate it, a spiritual path towards lofty aspirations, building a noble human society, and achieving shared projects and interests that have transcended... Its benefits extend across time and place, and through it emanated the light of brotherhood, cooperation, solidarity, and mutual support during crises and tribulations, and through it the flame of humanitarian work and community building was kindled. ALLAH says in Surah Al Anfal

وَأَلَّفَ بَيۡنَ قُلُوبِہِمۡ‌ۚ لَوۡ أَنفَقۡتَ مَا فِى ٱلۡأَرۡضِ جَمِيعً۬ا مَّآ أَلَّفۡتَ بَيۡنَ قُلُوبِهِمۡ وَلَـٰڪِنَّ ٱللَّهَ أَلَّفَ بَيۡنَہُمۡ‌ۚ إِنَّهُ ۥ عَزِيزٌ حَكِيمٌ۬

And He has united their (i.e. believers') hearts. If you had spent all that is in the earth, you could not have united their hearts, but Allâh has united them. Certainly He is All-Mighty, All-Wise.

Surah Al Anfal – 63

The noble migration of the Prophet, peace be upon him, and the launch of community building in the city of the Messenger remain a testament to the fact that cooperation among the members of a single community is the path to progress and glory, that mutual support and solidarity are the way to leadership, and that societies and homelands are built by the hands of their people, the convergence of their efforts, and the unity of their ranks: ((You see the believers in the Their mutual love, compassion, and empathy are like that of a single body; if one part of it is afflicted, the whole body responds with sleeplessness and fever.

Fear ALLAH, O Muslims, and learn from the school of migration the renewal in every step you take, which will help you to succeed in your lives. For migration illuminates the path for us at every moment, and it declares to the world that it is a journey of guidance and conveying a message.
