Hello & Welcome January

The nature has bestowed our habitat Earth, with four seasons; spring, summer, Autumn, Winter, and all of them have its own colours, sounds and vibes. We are now in the month of January, which is 1st month of year and 2nd of Winter months and continuation snow fall causing chill cold weather in northern hemisphere. This write up is to say “Hello and Welcome January"; “January is the beginning of anything you want;” and “is the perfect time to reset, recharge, and renew your focus on what truly matters.”

In the name of ALLAH, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful

Hello & Welcome January

January, is the first month of the Gregorian calendar. However, it was not the first month earlier when calendar was formulated in ancient times. January was placed in the beginning to replace March, which was the first month in ancient Rome, the calendar then only consisted of 10 months, as the first month of the Roman year in 53 BCE. The January was named after Janus, the Roman god of all beginnings and endings; more appropriately. The month of January comes right after the winter solstice in the Northern Hemisphere. So, January is also a month of winters in Northern Hemisphere and summers in Southern Hemisphere. January begins on the same day of the week as October in common years, and April and July in leap years and comprises 31 days. So, now let's welcome Happy New Month of January. “In the New Year, never forget to thank your past years because they enabled you to reach today! Without the stairs of the past, you cannot arrive at the future!" Mehmet Murat Ildan

Fittingly, January is often seen as a month of retrospection (looking back on the past year just ended few hours ago, in celebrations of new year); which sometimes is personified as an old man; and new beginnings (looking forward to the new year) which sometimes is depicted as a baby. January 1st, is the first day of the year in the Gregorian calendar and is also known as New Year's Day and we spend in celebrating the day, marking the beginning of the year. January is known to be the coldest month in the Northern Hemisphere and snow keeps falling during the month in areas and location known for snow fall. January is also the warmest month in the Southern Hemisphere. “The best time for new beginnings is now—January is the perfect reminder.”

“January reminds us that we have 12 new chapters to fill. Make the most of each one.”

January is the winter time, it's time for sitting back, reflecting and being gentle with yourself. It's the time to enjoy nature and work with the rhythm of the winter. It's the time to be thankful for the past year and welcome the new year, with NO expectations. January symbolizes the beginning of a New Year and a time to set out (and hopefully stick to!) some New Year's Resolutions. January has been designated as “International Brain Teaser Month” to promote cognitive fitness at the start of the year, so New Year's Resolution can be derived in line with Brain Teaser Month recommendations. However, there is more to January than just new beginnings and that is reconnecting with past and lost friends and acquaintances. “This January, take it day by day, goal by goal, and you’ll be amazed by how far you’ve come.” “New year, new feels, new chances, and new dreams to chase—January is the time to make it happen.”

Although January is supposed to be a time of new beginnings and renewed enthusiasm, most people actually experience the first month of the year as a rather gloomy time that makes them feel depressed, lethargic, and hopeless; and that happens because we humans at times don't align ourselves with Nature which keeps shaping itself regularly with changing seasons and months. January being the first month of the year; it's a time to create new memories, appreciate the blessings availed in our lives during last year, and spread kindness to those around us and who may be angry due to any reason. “What the new year brings to you will depend a great deal on what you bring to the new year.” – Vern McLellan

People born between January 20 and 21 December are Capricorns, while people born after 20th of January are Aquarius. January born people are quite headstrong, and do not bend their will to the opinions of others. They have a strict code of conduct when it comes to their workplace and will not let anything come in the way of their ambitions. Chinese January born are "Dragon" and they have amazing internal strength, empowering them to take on anything that the world can toss at them and Nothing keeps them down.

January born kids will turn out to be great lovers. They will be passionate about romance and the endearing emotion. But they are very shy in expressing their emotions. January Colors are Dark Blue, Light Blue, Blood Red. Garnet (precious stone) is known as the January birthstone and these are the main colors of January Month. January flowers are carnation and snowdrop; and If one is born in the month of January, carnations and snowdrops are the most meaningful to you. Carnations are the most popular January birth flower due to their unique ruffled petals and range of beautiful hues, from soft pinks and reds to whites, and more!

One has always felt January was a time to recover and recoup, to regenerate. So much is taken out of us in December. If one pause and think, as the month progresses, if we’re kind to ourselves, the things we may want to change, will become more clear. Please take punishment off the table and instead think of ways, we can bring in more light and calm to our world. And also, it’s winter; deep winter with snow falling. Nature is slowing. It’s not yet time to rise. That’s in our bones. Ignore the shouts of ‘become a whole new you’, my friend. Chase acceptance, harvest gratitude and watch out for joy when she calls. The rest will flow from that. “Cheers to a new year and another chance for us to get it right.” Oprah Winfrey

Let’s dive into some fascinating facts about month of January which bridges the old and the new. January’s weather can be quite dramatic, especially in the Northern Hemisphere providing extreme cold to unique natural events. Many cultures have developed unique traditions and superstitions associated with January, often centered around ensuring good luck for the coming year; believing that January 1st sets the tone for the entire year. The Northern Lights are often visible in northern latitudes during January nights. Many animals, including bears and bats, hibernate during January in colder climates. “Every man should be born again on the first of January. Start with a fresh page.” ―Henry Ward Beecher

Patricia Highsmith is reported to have said “January was a two-faced month, jangling like jester’s bells, crackling like snow crust, pure as any beginning, grim as an old man, mysteriously familiar yet unknown, like a word one can almost but not quite define.”

“On the first of January, let every man gird himself once more, with his face to the front, and take an interest in the things that are and are to be, and not in the things that were and are past” as said by Henry Ward Beecher. Charlotte Brontë said about January as "The first day of January always presents to my mind a train of very solemn and important reflections and a question more easily asked than answered frequently occurs viz: How have I improved the past year and with what good intentions do I view the dawn of its successor?" “JANUARY; The first month of the year, A perfect time to start all over again, Changing energies and deserting old moods, New beginnings, new attitudes” Charmaine J Forde

Let's follow some Poetry with regards to the month of January

To the New Year By W. S. Merwin

With what stillness at last

you appear in the valley

your first sunlight reaching down

to touch the tips of a few

high leaves that do not stir

as though they had not noticed

and did not know you at all

then the voice of a dove calls

from far away in itself

to the hush of the morning.

So this is the sound of you

here and now whether or not

anyone hears it this is

where we have come with our age

our knowledge such as it is

and our hopes such as they are

invisible before us

untouched and still possible

On The New Year by Johann Wolfgang von Goethe

FATE now allows us,

'Twixt the departing

And the upstarting,

Happy to be;

And at the call of

Memory cherish'd,

Future and perish'd

Moments we see.

Seasons of anguish,--

Ah, they must ever

Truth from woe sever,

Love and joy part;

Days still more worthy

Soon will unite us,

Fairer songs light us,

Strength'ning the heart.

We, thus united,

Think of, with gladness,

Rapture and sadness,

Sorrow now flies.

Oh, how mysterious

Fortune's direction!

Old the connection,

New-born the prize!

Thank, for this, Fortune,

Wavering blindly!

Thank all that kindly

Fate may bestow!

Revel in change's

Impulses clearer,

Love far sincerer,

More heartfelt glow!

Over the old one,

Wrinkles collected,

Sad and dejected,

Others may view;

But, on us gently

Shineth a true one,

And to the new one

We, too, are new.

As a fond couple

'Midst the dance veering,

First disappearing,

Then reappear,

So let affection

Guide thro' life's mazy

Pathways so hazy

Into the year!

New Year’s Morning by Helen Hunt Jackson

Only a night from old to new!

Only a night, and so much wrought!

The Old Year's heart all weary grew,

But said: "The New Year rest has brought."

The Old Year's hopes its heart laid down,

As in a grave; but, trusting, said:

"The blossoms of the New Year's crown

Bloom from the ashes of the dead."

The Old Year's heart was full of greed;

With selfishness it longed and ached,

And cried: "I have not half I need.

My thirst is bitter and unslaked.

But to the New Year's generous hand

All gifts in plenty shall return;

True love it shall understand;

By all my failures it shall learn.

I have been reckless; it shall be

Quiet and calm and pure of life.

I was a slave; it shall go free,

And find sweet peace where I leave strife."

Only a night from old to new!

Never a night such changes brought.

The Old Year had its work to do;

No New Year miracles are wrought.

Always a night from old to new!

Night and the healing balm of sleep!

Each morn is New Year's morn come true,

Morn of a festival to keep.

All nights are sacred nights to make

Confession and resolve and prayer;

All days are sacred days to wake

New gladness in the sunny air.

Only a night from old to new;

Only a sleep from night to morn.

The new is but the old come true;

Each sunrise sees a new year born.

January has inspired many song titles in popular music
