Ankylosing Spondylitis (AS) is a chronic inflammatory condition that mainly affects the spine, hips, and sacroiliac joints. It often causes pain, stiffness, and reduced flexibility, which can interfere with daily activities. While medications help control inflammation, regular exercise plays an essential role in managing symptoms and maintaining mobility.

Stretching exercises are particularly important for AS patients. Gentle movements such as neck stretches, chest-opening stretches, and hamstring stretches help reduce stiffness and improve flexibility. Spinal mobility exercises like the cat–cow stretch, pelvic tilts, and gentle seated rotations help maintain movement in the spine and prevent long-term stiffness.

Posture correction exercises are also beneficial, especially for individuals who sit for long hours. Wall posture exercises, shoulder blade squeezes, and chin tucks support better spinal alignment and reduce strain on the neck and back. In addition, low-impact strengthening exercises such as glute bridges, modified planks, and resistance band rowing help support the muscles around the spine.

Breathing exercises and low-impact activities such as walking, swimming, and cycling further improve stamina, flexibility, and overall well-being.
