Colombia 3–1 Costa Rica | International Friendlies 2026

June 2, 2026 — In a compelling tune-up on the road to major international competitions, Colombia delivered a convincing performance against Costa Rica, securing a 3–1 victory at a neutral venue in the early hours of Tuesday morning.

First Half Blitz

From the opening whistle, Colombia imposed their rhythm. The attacking trident, full of pace and technical flair, caused constant problems for the Costa Rican backline.

The deadlock was broken early when Colombia’s high press forced a turnover just outside the Los Ticos penalty area. A quick interchange of passes ended with a clinical low finish into the bottom corner, sending the Colombian faithful into a frenzy.

Costa Rica, known for their defensive resilience, found an unexpected equalizer against the run of play midway through the half. A rare lapse in concentration by the Colombian center-backs allowed a Costa Rican forward to latch onto a through ball, calmly slotting past the keeper to make it 1–1. The goal momentarily silenced the pro-Colombia crowd and hinted at an upset.

Second Half Control

The second half saw a shift in tactics. With a lead in hand, Colombia opted to manage possession rather than chase a third goal immediately. Costa Rica, despite throwing numbers forward, struggled to break down the organized Colombian defensive block.

Goalkeeper Camilo Vargas was forced into two smart saves to preserve the lead, but for the most part, Colombia looked comfortable. The defining moment of the second half came in the 70th minute. A dazzling solo run down the left wing ended with a square pass to an unmarked substitute forward, who made no mistake from six yards out, making it 3–1.

Final Whistle

The 3–1 victory extends Colombia’s impressive unbeaten run and injects a massive dose of confidence as they continue their preparations. For Costa Rica, while the result is disappointing, the coaching staff will have seen plenty of tactical lessons to address before their next competitive fixture.
