Capacity Building & Capability Development

The Lord of the Worlds; the Ultimate Truth and Power of the Universe; ALLAH SWT has said in Quran that

Ayat 24 { اَمْ لِلْاِنْسَانِ مَا تَمَنّٰی۔ } "Or should every person ˹simply˺ have whatever ˹intercessors˺ they desire?"

Ayat 39 { وَاَنْ لَّــیْسَ لِلْاِنْسَانِ اِلَّا مَا سَعٰی۔ } "and that each person will only have what they endeavoured towards". Surah An-Najm

The “man,” as we put it, the Homo sapiens, is the highest form of ALLAH’s creation; in fact the crown of all living beings. That idea is testimony from known fact that the humans are intelligent and have the gift of the gab (the ability to speak with eloquence and fluency) meaning by the man has been gifted with heart and brain with intelligent reasoning and arguments and through the same, the "Man" has been shaping the contour and flux of civilizations on the planet Earth in a big way.

The last of the Prophets; Hazrat Muhammad (peace be upon him) is reported to have said that "A man who recognizes his worth will never be ruined." It means that a man who recognizes his worth will possess a deep understanding of his inherent value and capabilities, leading to increased self-esteem, confidence, and resilience. This understanding shapes his actions, decisions, and interactions with the world, fostering a sense of purpose and enabling him to overcome challenges.

What it means is that a man who recognizes his worth; will have " Self-Awareness and Acceptance"; "Confidence and Self-Esteem"; "Resilience and Perseverance"; "Authenticity and Integrity"; "Setting Boundaries and Making Healthy Choices"; "Impact on Relationships"; and "Contribution to Society". A Man knowing his worth will be motivated to pursue his passions, help others, and make a difference in the world. In essence, recognizing one's worth is not about arrogance or entitlement, but about cultivating a deep sense of self-respect and understanding that fosters a more fulfilling and meaningful life. Therefore, a "Man" with sense of "Worth" will always work on "Capacity Building and Capability Building" of self and his surroundings as per his sphere of influence.

Capacity Building

Capacity building, also known as capacity development, is the process of enhancing the skills, knowledge, resources, and systems that enable individuals and organizations to improve their performance and achieve their goals. It involves strengthening the ability to effectively utilize existing resources and adapt to changing circumstances. This process is crucial for sustainable development, organizational growth, and community empowerment.

Key Aspects of Capacity Building are as follows:-

Individual Level:  Focuses on developing the knowledge, skills, and abilities of individuals within an organization or community.

Organizational Level:   Aims to improve the overall performance and effectiveness of organizations by strengthening their systems, processes, and infrastructure.

Systemic Level:  Addresses the broader context in which individuals and organizations operate, including policies, regulations, and the overall environment.

Sustainability:  Capacity building ensures that improvements are long-lasting and contribute to the long-term well-being of individuals, organizations, and communities.

Capability Development

Capability building, also known as capability development, is the systematic process of enhancing and expanding the skills, knowledge, and overall abilities of individuals or organizations. For example, communication skills, problem-solving abilities, or technical expertise can be considered competencies. On the other hand, capability has a broader scope and encompasses the overall capacity and potential of individuals or organizations to perform a range of tasks and adapt to various challenges.

A capability represents a blend of personal and technical skills, a person's knowledge, and behaviours that allow them or an organization to perform effectively. For individuals, it's about the potential to apply skills and knowledge in different situations. A capability is a collection of related skills, behaviours and processes that drive a business forward. It is something both an employee and organization needs; the former, in order to perform their job and drive value, and the latter to achieve organizational goals. Adopting a lifelong learning mindset is a powerful way to enhance learning capabilities. Embrace the idea of constantly seeking new knowledge and developing new skills. Expand intellectual horizons by exploring a wide range of resources.

Unlike an ability, function, or process, a capability is about being able to do something at a high level of performance or capacity. Often, this is only possible using other or external resources. For example: To be able to run is ability. To be capable of running a world record is a capability. Capability building directly improves employees' skills, leading to higher productivity, better quality of work, and increased efficiency. Employees improve their ability to fulfill their roles, leading to better organizational performance.

The Most Important Factor

The Man is the master of his on destiny and he achieves what he endeavours for and the most important factor in his success is "Self- Discipline". Discipline is the self-control that is gained by acquiring sense that rules or orders be obeyed, (in religious terms dictates and decree of Divine Revelations; like Torah, Bible & Quran) and the ability to keep working at something for a long period of time till a success is achieved. A "Self Disciplinarian" believes that such self-control is of the utmost importance and enforces upon him a set of rules that aim to develop such behaviour. The acquired behaviour helps him to improve his "Capacity and Capability".

Discipline is one of the most important personality traits in everyone's life. It is a way of being honest, hard-working, motivated, and encouraged while doing any task. The most challenging factor that derails a man from the course of discipline thus restricting his capacity building and capability development is his "Desires". Every human "desires" and that is natural; but, self discipline requires a "Man" to control his desires and work upon his ambitions; by developing goals and objectives. However, the first element that hampers any person's self- discipline is "hunger" desire of having food naturally after few hours. Therefore, if a "Man" can control what and when he eats and drinks, he can control everything else in his life; because "hunger" is the first and foremost need of all humans.

Conclusion

My Dear Fellow Human Beings! It's always better to discover own selves and then work upon our own individual's capacity and capability and then for the family's growth and development and then for the organizations one is associated with and finally for the Nation's progress and glory. History has been driven by such individuals, who drew their destiny and chartered their country's rise as an honourable nation.

Quaid e Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah was one such human who did it in a wonderfully organized way. Beware of the other way! The negative vibes takes nations toward destruction and history is also witness to clumsiness of individuals who drove their nation to fall of ignominy. Mind You! If we are not charting plane rising up; then we may be on the down slide; that's the natural law (law of gravity).

We must remember that it’s all "Men's" moral responsibility for self development so that we can contribute towards nation building.
