Well, I have some fantastic news for you that is going to make your travel planning so much easier.

If you are traveling on a passport from the Kingdom of the Netherlands, you do not need an eVisa to visit Botswana.

Let's break down exactly what this means for you, what you actually need to do, and why this is the best-case scenario for your trip.

This is the number one source of confusion, and for a good reason! The "Netherlands Antilles" as a formal entity was dissolved back in 2010. Today, you live in Curaçao, Sint Maarten, Bonaire, Sint Eustatius, or Saba.

While you have your own unique island identity, in the eyes of international travel, you all hold one of the most powerful travel documents in the world: a passport from the Kingdom of the Netherlands.

When you book a flight, go through immigration, or apply for a visa (or in this case, not apply!), you are a Dutch national. This is the only fact that matters to Botswana's immigration officials.

Botswana and the Netherlands have a fantastic diplomatic relationship. As a result, Dutch passport holders are on the visa-exempt list for Botswana.

This means you do not need to apply for anything in advance.

• No online eVisa application.
• No sending your passport to an embassy.
• No paying for a visa application fee.

You simply arrive at Sir Seretse Khama International Airport in Gaborone (GBE) or Maun Airport (MUP), present your valid Dutch passport, and you will be granted a visitor's permit (a stamp in your passport). This permit allows you to stay in Botswana for tourism or business purposes for up to 90 days within any 12-month period.

Just because you're visa-exempt doesn't mean you can just show up with nothing but a passport. To get your 90-day stamp, you must have your documents required for Botswana visa in order. This is what the immigration officer will want to see.

Think of this as your "entry checklist":

1. Your Valid Dutch Passport: This is non-negotiable.
2. Proof of Onward or Return Travel: A printed copy of your flight itinerary showing your flight out of Botswana.

Out of all of these, the next two are the most critical.

Additionally, your passport needs at least three (3) blank pages for stamps.

This is, without a doubt, the single biggest travel pitfall in Southern Africa. Botswana has (rightfully) some of the strictest laws in the world to prevent child trafficking.

If you are traveling with your children (anyone under 18), you MUST carry:

• A certified, unabridged (full) birth certificate for each child, which lists the names of both parents.
• If traveling with only one parent: You must also have a notarized affidavit (a legal consent letter) from the other parent, giving you permission to travel with the child.
• If one parent is deceased: You must carry a certified copy of the death certificate.

I cannot stress this enough: they will check, and they will deny you entry if you do not have these documents.

This is another common question. Botswana is not a yellow fever-endemic country.

However, you are required to have a Yellow Fever vaccination certificate if you are arriving from (or have transited for more than 12 hours in) a country with a risk of yellow fever transmission.

For most travelers from the Dutch Caribbean, your route will be something like Curaçao -> Amsterdam -> Johannesburg -> Gaborone. Since none of these are yellow fever zones, you will not need the certificate. But always check your specific flight itinerary and consult a travel doctor.

Now that the visa stress is gone, let's get back to the fun part. Where should you go?

1. The Okavango Delta: This is the jewel of Botswana. A unique wetland that floods seasonally, creating a maze of channels best explored by a traditional mokoro (dugout canoe). The wildlife viewing here is intimate and magical.
