Holy Al Quran is the final Holy Book revealed upon the Last of Prophets Hazrat Muhammad (PBUH). The Quran & Sunnah is the only source of holy guidance as it entails detailed instructions for each and every walk of human life. Here guidance from Quran for the followers of Islam (السَّفَرُ: آدَابٌ وأحْكامٌ Travel... Etiquette and Commandments) is discussed wrt social life aspects such as Travelling & Tours for better living from Quran and Hadith of Prophet ﷺ. This is an approved Jumma Khutba from the Sultanate of Oman and translated in English.
بِسۡمِ ٱللهِ ٱلرَّحۡمَـٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ
السَّفَرُ.. آدَابٌ وأحْكامٌ

الحَمْدُ لِلّهِ القَائِلِ: هُوَ ٱلَّذِى جَعَلَ لَكُمُ ٱلۡأَرۡضَ ذَلُولاً۬ فَٱمۡشُواْ فِى مَنَاكِبِہَا وَكُلُواْ مِن رِّزۡقِهِۦۖ وَإِلَيۡهِ ٱلنُّشُورُ، وَنَشْهَدُ أَن لَّا إِلَهَ إِلاَّ اللهُ وَحْدَهُ لاَ شَرِيكَ لَهُ، وَنَشْهَدُ أَنَّ سَيِّدَنَا وَنَبِيَّنَا مُحَمَّدًا عَبْدُ اللهِ وَرَسُولُهُ، صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، وَعَلَى آلِهِ وَأَصْحَابِهِ أَهْلِ الطُّهْرِ والتَدَبُّرِ، وعَلَى التَّابِعِينَ لَهُمْ بِإِحْسَانٍ إِلَى يَوْمِ الْعَرْضِ الأَكْبَرِ
أَمَّا بَعْدُ، فاعوذ باللہ من الشیطان الرجیم- بسم اللہ الرحمن الرحیم
هُوَ ٱلَّذِى جَعَلَ لَكُمُ ٱلۡأَرۡضَ ذَلُولاً۬ فَٱمۡشُواْ فِى مَنَاكِبِہَا وَكُلُواْ مِن رِّزۡقِهِۦۖ وَإِلَيۡهِ ٱلنُّشُورُ
Surah Al Mulk – 15-Part
رَبِّ ٱشۡرَحۡ لِى صَدۡرِى. وَيَسِّرۡ لِىٓ أَمۡرِى- وَٱحۡلُلۡ عُقۡدَةً۬ مِّن لِّسَانِى- يَفۡقَهُواْ قَوۡلِى- آمین ثم آمین
Surah Taha – 25-28
Praise be to Allah who said, He it is, Who has made the earth subservient to you (i.e. easy for you to walk, to live and to do agriculture on it), so walk in the path thereof and eat of His provision, and to Him will be the Resurrection. We bear witness that there is no god but Allah, Alone, He has no partner, and we bear witness that our Lord and Master Muhammad, may God bless him and grant him peace, is the servant of Allah and His Messenger. Peace and blessings be upon the Prophet (Peace be upon him), upon his family, companions, followers and true believers - translation of the recited verse is:
He it is, Who has made the earth subservient to you (i.e. easy for you to walk, to live and to do agriculture on it), so walk in the path thereof and eat of His provision, and to Him will be the Resurrection. (15)
Surah Al Mulk – 15-Part
O servants of Allah, fear Allah - be righteous and obey Allah, so fear Allah, O servants of Allah, and know that Allah has prepared the earth for His servants and permitted people to roam in it. He says in Surah Taha:
ٱلَّذِى جَعَلَ لَكُمُ ٱلۡأَرۡضَ مَهۡدً۬ا وَسَلَكَ لَكُمۡ فِيہَا سُبُلاً۬
Who has made earth for you like a bed (spread out); and has opened roads (ways and paths etc.) for you therein;
Surah Taha – 53-Part
O you who believe, our Lord ordered His servants to walk on the earth and said:
قُلۡ سِيرُواْ فِى ٱلۡأَرۡضِ فَٱنظُرُواْ ڪَيۡفَ بَدَأَ ٱلۡخَلۡقَۚ ثُمَّ ٱللَّهُ يُنشِئُ ٱلنَّشۡأَةَ ٱلۡأَخِرَةَۚ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ عَلَىٰ ڪُلِّ شَىۡءٍ۬ قَدِيرٌ۬
Say: "Travel in the land and see how (Allâh) originated the creation, and then Allâh will bring forth the creation of the Hereafter (i.e. resurrection after death). Verily, Allâh is Able to do all things."
Surah Al Ankaboot – 20
Traveling around the world, servants of Allah, is one of the interests that a person may need in his life, which helps him to carry out his affairs in it. The purposes of travel are many and vary from worshiping, earning a living or relaxing. Since travel and relocations are among the necessities of a Muslim, the law of wisdom has established controls and guidelines for them. In honor of His servants, when He enabled them to walk on land and sea, Allah says:
۞ وَلَقَدۡ كَرَّمۡنَا بَنِىٓ ءَادَمَ وَحَمَلۡنَـٰهُمۡ فِى ٱلۡبَرِّ وَٱلۡبَحۡرِ وَرَزَقۡنَـٰهُم مِّنَ ٱلطَّيِّبَـٰتِ وَفَضَّلۡنَـٰهُمۡ عَلَىٰ ڪَثِيرٍ۬ مِّمَّنۡ خَلَقۡنَا تَفۡضِيلاً۬
And indeed We have honoured the Children of Adam, and We have carried them on land and sea, and have provided them with At-Taiyyibât (lawful good things), and have preferred them above many of those whom We have created with a marked preferment. (70)
Surah Al Isra – 70
O believers, Islam cares about the rights of its people, and the rights of those who intend to travel to return to their owners, or to bequeath what they have to others. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: If he has done wrong in respect of his brother, about honor or something, free yourself from it today, before there is nothing, a dinar or a dirham to repay. Almighty God says:
وَٱلۡعَصۡرِ (١) إِنَّ ٱلۡإِنسَـٰنَ لَفِى خُسۡرٍ (٢) إِلَّا ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُواْ وَعَمِلُواْ ٱلصَّـٰلِحَـٰتِ وَتَوَاصَوۡاْ بِٱلۡحَقِّ وَتَوَاصَوۡاْ بِٱلصَّبۡرِ
By Al-'Asr (the time). (1) Verily, man is in loss, (2) Except those who believe (in Islâmic Monotheism) and do righteous good deeds, and recommend one another to the truth (i.e. order one another to perform all kinds of good deeds (Al-Ma'ruf) which Allâh has ordained, and abstain from all kinds of sins and evil deeds (Al-Munkar) which Allâh has forbidden), and recommend one another to patience (for the sufferings, harms, and injuries which one may encounter in Allâh's Cause during preaching His religion of Islâmic Monotheism or Jihâd). (3)
Surah Al Asar – 1-3
Among the characteristics of the believers is that they admonish one another, and one of them is to be patient with his brother. A man came to Abu Huraira (may ALLAH be pleased with him), so when he sent him back on his journey, he said, I bid you farewell and teach you what I have learned from the Messenger of Allah, may God bless him and grant him peace. When the Prophet, peace and blessings of God be upon him, would say farewell, he would say: “Qul Astudu'uk Allah Al-Dhi La Ta'ee Wa Da'I” I entrust you to Allah, Whose trusts are never lost. Pray for him as much as you can. It is narrated from Sayyiduna Anas (RA) that a man came to the Messenger of Allah (PBUH) and said: O Messenger of Allah, I need to travel, so provide me with some material. He, peace and blessings of God be upon him, said: زَوَّدَكَ اللَّهُ التَّقْوَى May Allah increase your piety. The man said: Increase it more. Upon this, he, peace and blessings be upon him, said: وَغَفَرَ ذَنْبَكَ And Allah forgives your sins. This man then said: May my parents be sacrificed to you, please add more to it. He, peace and blessings of God be upon him, said: وَيَسَّرَ لَكَ الْخَيْرَ حَيثُما كُنْتَ And wherever you are, Allah makes good deeds easy for you. do
So, O servants of Allah, fear Allah - and do what your Lord is pleased with in your stay and journey. He said in Surah Al Talaq:
ذَٲلِڪُمۡ يُوعَظُ بِهِۦ مَن كَانَ يُؤۡمِنُ بِٱللَّهِ وَٱلۡيَوۡمِ ٱلۡأَخِرِۚ وَمَن يَتَّقِ ٱللَّهَ يَجۡعَل لَّهُ ۥ مَخۡرَجً۬ا (٢) وَيَرۡزُقۡهُ مِنۡ حَيۡثُ لَا يَحۡتَسِبُۚ وَمَن يَتَوَكَّلۡ عَلَى ٱللَّهِ فَهُوَ حَسۡبُهُ ۥۤۚ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ بَـٰلِغُ أَمۡرِهِۦۚ قَدۡ جَعَلَ ٱللَّهُ لِكُلِّ شَىۡءٍ۬ قَدۡرً۬ا
That will be an admonition given to him who believes in Allâh and the Last Day. And whosoever fears Allâh and keeps his duty to Him, He will make a way for him to get out (from every difficulty). (2) And He will provide him from (sources) he never could imagine. And whosoever puts his trust in Allâh, then He will suffice him. Verily, Allâh will accomplish his purpose. Indeed Allâh has set a measure for all things. (3)
Surah At Talaq – 2-Part-3
أقولُ مَا تَسْمَعُونَ، وَأَسْتَغْفِرُ اللهَ العَظِيمَ لِي وَلَكُمْ، فَاسْتَغْفِرُوهُ يَغْفِرْ لَكُمْ، إِنَّهُ هُوَ الغَفُورُالرَّحِيمُ، وَادْعُوهُ يَسْتَجِبْ لَكُمْ، إِنَّهُ هُوَ البَرُّ الكَرِيمُ
Say this, I ask forgiveness from Allah for me and for you, so ask Him for forgiveness and He will forgive you. He is the Forgiving, the Merciful. And call upon Him and He will answer you, for He is generous in righteousness.

ٱلۡحَمۡدُ لِلَّهِ ٱلَّذِى لَهُ ۥ مَا فِى ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٲتِ وَمَا فِى ٱلۡأَرۡضِ وَلَهُ ٱلۡحَمۡدُ فِى ٱلۡأَخِرَةِۚ وَهُوَ ٱلۡحَكِيمُ ٱلۡخَبِيرُ، وَنَشْهَدُ أَنْ لا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللهُ وَحْدَهُ لاَ شَرِيْكَ لَهُ، وَنَشْهَدُ أَنَّ مُحَمَّدًا عَبْدُهُ وَرَسُوْلُهُ، صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْه وَسَلَّمَ، وَعَلَى آلِهِ وَصَحْبِهِ وَالتَّابِعِيْنَ لَهُمْ بِإِحْسَانٍ إِلَى يَوْمِ الدِّيْنِ
All the praises and thanks are to Allâh, to Whom belongs all that is in the heavens and all that is in the earth. His is all the praises and thanks in the Hereafter, and He is the All¬Wise, the All¬Aware. We bear witness that there is no god but Allah alone, with no partner, and we bear witness that Muhammad is His servant and Messenger, may God bless him and grant him peace, and upon his family, companions, and followers show them goodness until the Day of Judgment
Fear the servants of Allah – One of the etiquettes of traveling is that a person should do what is appropriate for him to be a Muslim, which increases his status and identity and that is from the comprehensive words of the Prophet (Peace be Upon him). Make a light for your path: wherever you are, put fear of God first, and if you do bad deeds, end them with good deeds, your good deeds will wipe out your bad deeds, and treat people with good behavior.
And you - O people of Oman - are the people of good character and good praise, according to the saying of the Messenger of Allah, may God bless him and grant him peace. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) sent a man to the Arab neighborhood, and they were insulted and beaten by them. When he returned to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) and informed him of their bad behavior. The Messenger of ALLAH (peace be upon him) said: “If you come to the people of Oman, You will not be abused or beaten”.
هَذَا وَصَلُّوا وَسَلِّمُوا عَلَى إمَامِ الْمُرْسَلِينَ؛ مُحَمَّدٍ الهَادِي الأَمِينِ، فَقَدْ أَمَرَكُمْ رَبكُمْ بذَلكَ حينَ قَالَ
إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ وَمَلَـٰٓٮِٕڪَتَهُ ۥ يُصَلُّونَ عَلَى ٱلنَّبِىِّۚ يَـٰٓأَيُّہَا ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُواْ صَلُّواْ عَلَيۡهِ وَسَلِّمُواْ تَسۡلِيمًا
Surah Al Ahzaab – 56
اللَّهُمَّ صَلِّ وسَلِّم عَلَى نَبِيِّنَا مُحَمَّدٍ وَعَلَى آلِ نَبِيِّنَا مُحَمَّدٍ، كَمَا صَلَّيْتَ وسَلَّمتَ عَلَى نَبِيِّنَا إِبْرَاهِيمَ وَعَلَى آلِ نَبِيِّنَا إِبْرَاهِيمَ، وَبَارِكْ عَلَى نَبِيِّنَا مُحَمَّدٍ وَعَلَى آلِ نَبِيِّنَا مُحَمَّدٍ كَمَا بَارَكْتَ عَلَى نَبِيِّنَا إِبْرَاهِيمَ وَعَلَى آلِ نَبِيِّنَا إِبْرَاهِيمَ فِي الْعَالَمِينَ، إِنَّكَ حَمِيدٌ مَجِيدٌ، وَارْضَ اللَّهُمَّ عَنْ خُلَفَائِهِ الرَّاشِدِينَ، وَعَنْ أَزْوَاجِهِ أُمَّهَاتِ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ وَعَنْ سَائِرِ الصَّحَابَةِ أَجْمَعِينَ، وَعَنِ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ وَالْمُؤْمِنَاتِ، وعَنْ جَمْعِنَا هَذَا بِرَحْمَتِكَ يَا أَرْحَمَ الرَّاحِمِينَ
اللَّهُمَّ اجْعَلْ جَمْعَنَا هَذَا جَمْعًا مَرْحُوْمًا، وَاجْعَلْ تَفَرُّقَنَا مِنْ بَعْدِهِ تَفَرُّقًا مَعْصُوْمًا وَلا تَدَعْ فِينَا وَلا مَعَنَا شَقِيًّا وَلا مَحْرُومًا
اللَّهُمَّ أَعِزَّ الإِسْلامَ وَاهْدِ الْمُسْلِمِينَ إِلَى الْحَقِّ، وَاجْمعْ كَلِمَتَهُمْ عَلَى الخَيْرِ، وَاكْسِرْ شَوْكَةَ الظَّالِمِينَ، وَاكْتُبِ السَّلامَ وَالأَمْنَ لِعِبادِكَ أَجْمَعِينَ
اللَّهُمَّ يَا حَيُّ يَا قَيُّومُ يَا ذَا الجَلالِ وَالإِكْرَامِ، لاَ إِلَهَ إِلاَّ أَنْتَ سُبْحَانَكَ بِكَ نَستَجِيرُ وَبِرَحْمَتِكَ نَستَغِيثُ أَلاَّ تَكِلَنَا إِلَى أَنفُسِنَا طَرفَةَ عَينٍ، وَلاَ أَدنَى مِنْ ذَلِكَ وَأَصلِحْ لَنَا شَأْنَنَا كُلَّهُ يَا مُصلِحَ شَأْنِ الصَّالِحِينَ
اللَّهُمَّ رَبَّنَا احْفَظْ أَوْطَانَنَا وَأَعِزَّ سُلْطَانَنَا وَأَيِّدْهُ بِالْحَقِّ وَأَيِّدْ بِهِ الْحَقَّ يَا رَبَّ العَالَمِينَ، اللَّهُمَّ أَسْبِغْ عَلَيْهِ نِعمَتَكَ، وَأَيِّدْهُ بِنُورِ حِكْمَتِكَ، وَسَدِّدْهُ بِتَوفِيقِكَ، وَاحفَظْهُ بِعَينِ رعَايَتِكَ
اللَّهُمَّ أَنْزِلْ عَلَيْنَا مِنْ بَرَكَاتِ السَّمَاء وَأَخْرِجْ لَنَا مِنْ خَيْرَاتِ الأَرْضِ، وَبَارِكْ لَنَا في ثِمَارِنَا وَزُرُوعِنَا وكُلِّ أَرزَاقِنَا يَا ذَا الْجَلالِ وَالإِكْرَامِ
رَبَّنَا آتِنَا في الدُّنْيَا حَسَنَةً وَفي الآخِرَةِ حَسَنَةً وَقِنَا عَذَابَ النَّارِ
اللَّهُمَّ اغْفِرْ لِلْمُؤْمِنِينَ وَالمُؤْمِنَات، المُسْلِمِينَ وَالمُسْلِمَات، الأَحْيَاءِ مِنْهُمْ وَالأَمْوَاتِ، إِنَّكَ سَمِيعٌ قَرِيبٌ مُجِيبُ الدُّعَاءِ
عِبَادَ الله إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ يَأۡمُرُ بِٱلۡعَدۡلِ وَٱلۡإِحۡسَـٰنِ وَإِيتَآىِٕ ذِى ٱلۡقُرۡبَىٰ وَيَنۡهَىٰ عَنِ ٱلۡفَحۡشَآءِ وَٱلۡمُنڪَرِ وَٱلۡبَغۡىِۚ يَعِظُكُمۡ لَعَلَّڪُمۡ تَذَكَّرُونَ
Surah An Nahl-90
