الوَفَاءُ هَدْيُ الأَتـقِيَاءِ : Loyalty is the way of the pious

بِسۡمِ ٱللهِ ٱلرَّحۡمَـٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ

In the name of ALLAH, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful

الوَفَاءُ هَدْيُ الأَتـقِيَاءِ

Loyalty is the way of the pious.

Praise be to Allah, who commanded faithfulness and forbade treachery and cruelty. I bear witness that there is no god but Allah alone, without partner, and I bear witness that Muhammad, peace be upon him, is His servant and Messenger, the master of the Messengers, the best of those who are faithful. May the prayers and peace of ALLAH be upon him, his family, his companions, the people of truth and loyalty, and upon those who followed their path and emulated them. This is the translation of the recited verse from Surah An Nahl:

أَمَّا بَعْدُ، فاعوذ باللہ من الشیطان الرجیم- بسم اللہ الرحمن الرحیم

وَأَوۡفُواْ بِعَهۡدِ ٱللَّهِ إِذَا عَـٰهَدتُّمۡ وَلَا تَنقُضُواْ ٱلۡأَيۡمَـٰنَ بَعۡدَ تَوۡڪِيدِهَا وَقَدۡ جَعَلۡتُمُ ٱللَّهَ عَلَيۡڪُمۡ كَفِيلاً‌ۚ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ يَعۡلَمُ مَا تَفۡعَلُونَ

And fulfill the Covenant of Allâh (Bai'a: pledge for Islâm) when you have covenanted, and break not the oaths after you have confirmed them, and indeed you have appointed Allâh your surety. Verily! Allâh knows what you do.

Surah An Nahl – 91

O servants of ALLAH: Fear ALLAH and Adopt piety and obey ALLAH and adopt the good morals and righteous qualities that ALLAH has commanded, for they are the reason for the advancement of nations and the secret to their reaching the peaks.

O Muslims: Loyalty, what is loyalty? It is fulfilling obligations and covenants, and not forgetting favors and kindness. It is the character of the prophets, the saints, and the righteous, and the motto of the learned and those who act upon their knowledge. Indeed, ALLAH praises them, saying in Surah Al Rad:

ٱلَّذِينَ يُوفُونَ بِعَهۡدِ ٱللَّهِ وَلَا يَنقُضُونَ ٱلۡمِيثَـٰقَ

Those who fulfil the Covenant of Allâh and break not the Mîthâq (bond, treaty, covenant);

Surah Al Rad – 20

And He made loyalty one of the qualities of the truthful, and one of the adornments of the pious. So He, Glory be to Him, said in the clear revelation in Surah Al Baqara, while enumerating the qualities of the righteous people.

وَٱلۡمُوفُونَ بِعَهۡدِهِمۡ إِذَا عَـٰهَدُواْ‌ۖ

and who fulfill their covenant when they make it

Surah Al Baqara – 177-Part

Then he concluded this verse of Surah Al Baqara by saying:

أُوْلَـٰٓٮِٕكَ ٱلَّذِينَ صَدَقُواْ‌ۖ وَأُوْلَـٰٓٮِٕكَ هُمُ ٱلۡمُتَّقُونَ

Such are the people of the truth and they are Al¬Muttaqûn

Surah Al Baqara – 177-Part

ALLAH, may His praise be exalted, did not merely praise loyalty and those who possess it, nor did He commend it or highlight its virtue, but He commanded it directly, as an obligation, a duty, and a necessity, saying in Surah Al Israa:

ۥ‌ۚ وَأَوۡفُواْ بِٱلۡعَهۡدِ‌ۖ إِنَّ ٱلۡعَهۡدَ كَانَ مَسۡـُٔولاً۬

And fulfil (every) covenant. Verily! the covenant, will be questioned about.

Surah Al Isra – 34-Part

Not only that, but the Messenger of ALLAH, peace be upon, made treachery and lack of loyalty among the characteristics of the hypocrites - ALLAH forbids - and he said, warning and admonishing: “The signs of a hypocrite are three,” and he mentioned among them: “And when he makes a covenant, he breaks it.” So beware, O servants of ALLAH, and be loyal, seeking ALLAH's pleasure.

O nation of noble character: Indeed, ALLAH Almighty has given us in the Glorious Qur'an many examples and abundant goodness of faithfulness. Among these is the faithfulness of Seyyedina Abraham, peace be upon him. ALLAH Almighty says in Surah Al Najam:

وَإِبۡرَٲهِيمَ ٱلَّذِى وَفَّىٰٓ

And of Ibrâhim (Abraham) who fulfilled (or conveyed) all that (Allâh ordered him to do or convey),

Surah An Najm – 37

Some commentators said: “He fulfilled what was required of him,” and another said: “He fulfilled his vision and went to slaughter his son.” How great is this fulfillment! And how sublime is the fulfillment of the father of the prophets! And this is Seyyedina Moses, peace be upon him, the one who spoke with ALLAH. He fulfilled what ALLAH commanded him, and waited for thirty nights, then completed them with ten more. That is mentioned in Surah Al Araf

وَوَٲعَدۡنَا مُوسَىٰ ثَلَـٰثِينَ لَيۡلَةً۬ وَأَتۡمَمۡنَـٰهَا بِعَشۡرٍ۬ فَتَمَّ مِيقَـٰتُ رَبِّهِۦۤ أَرۡبَعِينَ لَيۡلَةً۬‌ۚ

And We appointed for Mûsa (Moses) thirty nights and added (to the period) ten (more), and he completed the term, appointed by his Lord, of forty nights.

Surah Al Araf – 142-Part

As for the Prophet, peace be upon him's loyalty, it is an enduring example and a rare occurrence. Among these is his loyalty to his wife Seyyedah Khadija, may ALLAH be pleased with her, for he used to speak well of her many years after her death, saying: She believed in me when people disbelieved in me, and she affirmed my truth when people denied me, and she comforted me with her wealth when people deprived me, and ALLAH provided me with her children when other women deprived me of children, and he used to honor her friends out of loyalty to her, and the Messenger of ALLAH, peace be upon him, set the most wonderful example of loyalty to the Ansar; When ALLAH granted him victory over Mecca, some of the Ansar said to one another: “As for the man, he has been overcome by a longing for his village and compassion for his tribe.” Then revelation came down to the Messenger of ALLAH, peace be upon him, informing him of what they had said. Then the Prophet, peace be upon him, said to them, “O group of Ansar, you said: As for the man, he was overcome by a desire for his village and compassion for his tribe.” They said, “We did say that, O Messenger of ALLAH.” So the Messenger of ALLAH said, No, I am the servant of ALLAH and His Messenger. I have emigrated to GALLAH and to you. My life is your life and my death is your death. So they came weeping and saying: By ALLAH's name, we did not say what we said except out of concern for ALLAH and His Messenger, that is, out of concern for you and for your companionship. And in another situation, when the Ansar felt something against the Messenger of ALLAH, as they thought that he had favored the Quraysh over them in the distribution of spoils on the day of Hunayn, he did nothing but appease them by explaining their status to them, saying: By Him in Whose Hand is my soul, if the people were to take one path and the Ansar were to take another, I would take the path of the Ansar. And were it not for the migration, I would have been a man from the Ansar. O Allah, have mercy on the Ansar, the sons of the Ansar, and the sons of the sons of the Ansar. Then the people wept until their beards were wet. They said, "We are content with Allah as our Lord and His Messenger as our portion." How beautiful, sweet, and pure is his faithfulness! So fear Allah, O servants of Allah, and learn faithfulness from the prophets of Allah. ALLAH says in Surah Al Anam

أُوْلَـٰٓٮِٕكَ ٱلَّذِينَ هَدَى ٱللَّهُ‌ۖ فَبِهُدَٮٰهُمُ ٱقۡتَدِهۡ‌ۗ

They are those whom Allâh had guided. So follow their guidance.

Surah Al Anam – 90 -Part

أقولُ مَا تَسْمَعُونَ، وَأَسْتَغْفِرُ اللهَ العَظِيمَ لِي وَلَكُمْ، فَاسْتَغْفِرُوهُ يَغْفِرْ لَكُمْ، إِنَّهُ هُوَ الغَفُورُالرَّحِيمُ، وَادْعُوهُ يَسْتَجِبْ لَكُمْ، إِنَّهُ هُوَ البَرُّ الكَرِيمُ

I say what you hear, and I ask forgiveness from ALLAH Almighty for me and for you, so ask forgiveness from Him and He will forgive you, for He is the Forgiving and Merciful, and pray to Him and He will answer you, for He is The noble righteousness

الحَمْدُ للَّهِ وَحْدَهُ، صَدَقَ وَعْدَهُ، وَأَوْفَى بِعَهْدِهِ، وَأَشْهَدُ أَنْ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللَّهُ وَحْدَهُ لا شَرِيكَ لَهُ، وَأَشْهَدُ أَنَّ مُحَمَّدًا عَبْدُهُ وَرَسُولُهُ، كَانَ إِذَا قَدَرَ عَفَا، وَإِذَا وَعَدَ وَفَى، صَلاةً وَسَلامًا دَائِمَيْنِ إِلَى يَوْمِ الدِّينِ، وَعَلَى آلِهِ وَصَحْبِهِ وَمَنْ سارَ عَلى نَهْجِهِ وَاقْتَفى

Praise be to ALLAH alone, who fulfilled His promise and kept His covenant. I bear witness that there is no god but ALLAH alone, who has no partner, and I bear witness that Muhammad, peace be upon him, is His servant and messenger. When he was able, he would forgive, and when he promised, he would fulfill. May prayers and peace be upon him forever, until the Day of Judgment, and upon his family, his companions, and those who followed his path and emulated him.

Indeed, loyalty has many forms and abundant areas, including: the loyalty of believers to ALLAH's covenant when they make a covenant, and those are the ones about whom He says in Surah Al Ahzab:

مِّنَ ٱلۡمُؤۡمِنِينَ رِجَالٌ۬ صَدَقُواْ مَا عَـٰهَدُواْ ٱللَّهَ عَلَيۡهِ‌ۖ

Among the believers are men who have been true to their covenant with Allâh

Surah Al Ahzab – 23-Part

Among them is loyalty between spouses, as ALLAH Almighty says in Surah Al Nisa:

وَعَاشِرُوهُنَّ بِٱلۡمَعۡرُوفِ‌ۚ

And live with them honourably.

Surah An Nisa – 19-Part

He says further in Surah Al Baqara:

وَلَا تَنسَوُاْ ٱلۡفَضۡلَ بَيۡنَكُمۡ‌ۚ

And do not forget liberality between yourselves.

Surah Al Baqara – 237-Part

The prohibition against forgetting a favor is a command to be faithful and a warning against ingratitude and harshness. Among the forms of faithfulness is a Muslim's faithfulness to his family and relatives, so he remembers them with kindness and asks about them, checks on their well-being, and honors their friends. One of the greatest forms of loyalty is that which exists between friends and neighbors, in terms of keeping secrets, preserving affection, and fulfilling trusts. He said: “The best of companions in the sight of ALLAH is the one who is best to his companion, and the best of neighbors in the sight of Allah is the one who is best to his neighbor.” Another example is: faithfulness in work and worldly duties; the employee is entrusted and must be faithful, and the worker is entrusted and must be faithful. The teacher, the doctor, the engineer, and the judge are all entrusted with the interests of the people, and their duty is to be faithful. Whoever is faithful, ALLAH will reward him in full. ALLAH says in Surah Aal E Imran and Surah Al Fatah, in order

بَلَىٰ مَنۡ أَوۡفَىٰ بِعَهۡدِهِۦ وَٱتَّقَىٰ فَإِنَّ ٱللَّهَ يُحِبُّ ٱلۡمُتَّقِينَ

Yes, whoever fulfils his pledge and fears Allâh much; verily, then Allâh loves those who are Al-Muttaqûn

Surah Aal E Imran – 76

وَمَنۡ أَوۡفَىٰ بِمَا عَـٰهَدَ عَلَيۡهُ ٱللَّهَ فَسَيُؤۡتِيهِ أَجۡرًا عَظِيمً۬ا

Then whosoever breaks his pledge, breaks it only to his own harm, and whosoever fulfils what he has covenanted with Allâh, He will bestow on him a great reward.

Surah Al Fath – 10-Part

One of the forms of loyalty that is often overlooked by some people is the loyalty of a student of knowledge to his teacher. This is shown by respecting and appreciating him, spreading his knowledge, verifying information when quoting him, not dwelling on his mistakes, defending him truthfully, and praying for him. One of the righteous said: “Since my sheikh died, I have not prayed without asking forgiveness for him and my parents. And I ask forgiveness for anyone from whom I learned knowledge or whom I taught knowledge.”

Fear ALLAH, O servants of ALLAH, and be loyal to ALLAH and His Messenger, loyal to the people, and loyal to the covenants. For loyalty builds homes, strengthens communities, unites hearts, and eliminates the root of disputes.

So pray and send peace upon the leader of the messengers, Muhammad, the guide and trustworthy. Your Lord has commanded you to do so when He said: “Indeed, Allah and His angels send blessings upon the Prophet. O you who have believed, send blessings upon him and salute him with a worthy salutation.”

He says in Surah Al Ahzab: ALLAH and His kingdom send blessings upon the Prophet. O you who have believed, pray upon him and grant him peace.

Surah Al Ahzaab – 56

اللَّهُمَّ صَلِّ وسَلِّم عَلَى نَبِيِّنَا مُحَمَّدٍ وَعَلَى آلِ نَبِيِّنَا مُحَمَّدٍ، كَمَا صَلَّيْتَ وسَلَّمتَ عَلَى نَبِيِّنَا إِبْرَاهِيمَ وَعَلَى آلِ نَبِيِّنَا إِبْرَاهِيمَ، وَبَارِكْ عَلَى نَبِيِّنَا مُحَمَّدٍ وَعَلَى آلِ نَبِيِّنَا مُحَمَّدٍ كَمَا بَارَكْتَ عَلَى نَبِيِّنَا إِبْرَاهِيمَ وَعَلَى آلِ نَبِيِّنَا إِبْرَاهِيمَ فِي الْعَالَمِينَ، إِنَّكَ حَمِيدٌ مَجِيدٌ، وَارْضَ اللَّهُمَّ عَنْ خُلَفَائِهِ الرَّاشِدِينَ، وَعَنْ أَزْوَاجِهِ أُمَّهَاتِ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ وَعَنْ سَائِرِ الصَّحَابَةِ أَجْمَعِينَ، وَعَنِ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ وَالْمُؤْمِنَاتِ، وعَنْ جَمْعِنَا هَذَا بِرَحْمَتِكَ يَا أَرْحَمَ الرَّاحِمِينَ

O ALLAH, bless and grant peace upon our Prophet Muhammad and upon the family of our Prophet Muhammad, as You prayed and peace upon our Prophet Abraham and upon the family of our Prophet Abraham, and bless our Prophet Muhammad and the family of our Prophet Muhammad, just as You blessed our Prophet Abraham and the family of our Prophet Abraham in the worlds. Indeed, You are Praiseworthy and Glorious. And be pleased, O Allah, with his Rightly-Guided Caliphs, and with his wives, the Mothers of the Believers, and with all the rest of the Companions, and with the believing men and women, and with this gathering of ours, by Your mercy, O Most Merciful of the merciful.

اللَّهُمَّ اجْعَلْ جَمْعَنَا هَذَا جَمْعًا مَرْحُوْمًا، وَاجْعَلْ تَفَرُّقَنَا مِنْ بَعْدِهِ تَفَرُّقًا مَعْصُوْمًا وَلا تَدَعْ فِينَا وَلا مَعَنَا شَقِيًّا وَلا مَحْرُومًا

Oh ALLAH, make this gathering of us a merciful gathering, and make our separation after it an infallible separation, and do not leave among us or with us any wretched or deprived.

اللَّهُمَّ أَعِزَّ الإِسْلامَ وَاهْدِ الْمُسْلِمِينَ إِلَى الْحَقِّ، وَاجْمعْ كَلِمَتَهُمْ عَلَى الخَيْرِ، وَاكْسِرْ شَوْكَةَ الظَّالِمِينَ، وَاكْتُبِ السَّلامَ وَالأَمْنَ لِعِبادِكَ أَجْمَعِينَ

Oh ALLAH, honor Islam, guide Muslims to the truth, unite their words in goodness, break the power of the oppressors, and grant peace and security to your servants. All of them.

اللَّهُمَّ كُنْ عَوْنًا لإِخْوَانِنَا فِي أَرْضِ الأَقْصَى المُبَارَكِ، وَكُنْ مَعَهُمْ وَثَبِّـتْهُمْ وَارْبِطْ عَلَى قُلُوبِهِمْ وَصَبِّرْهُمْ، وَاخْذُلْ عَدُوَّكَ وَعَدُوَّهُمْ، وَاجْعَلِ الدَّائِرَةَ عَلَيْهِ يَا ذَا الجَلالِ وَالإِكْرَامِ

O Allah, be a helper to our brothers in the blessed land of Al-Aqsa, be with them, strengthen them, strengthen their hearts, and grant them patience. Disappoint Your enemy and their enemy, and turn the tables on him, O Possessor of Majesty and Honor.

اللَّهُمَّ إِنَّا نَسْأَلُكَ الثَّباتَ فِي الأَمْرِ، وَالعَزِيمَةَ عَلَى الرُّشْدِ، ونَسْأَلُكَ شُكْرَ نِعْمَتِكَ، وَحُسْنَ عِبَادَتِكَ، ونَسْأَلُكَ قُلُوبًا سَلِيمةً وأَلْسِنةً صَادِقةً، ونَسْأَلُكَ مِنْ خَيْرِ مَا تَعْلَمُ، وَنعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْ شَرِّ مَا تَعْلَمُ وَنَسْتَغْفِرُكَ لِمَا تَعْلَمُ

O Allah, we ask You for steadfastness in our affairs and determination to do what is right. We ask You for gratitude for Your blessings and proper worship of You. We ask You for sound hearts and truthful tongues. We ask You for the best of what You know and seek refuge in You from the worst of what You know. We seek Your forgiveness for what You know.

اللَّهُمَّ يَا حَيُّ يَا قَيُّومُ يَا ذَا الجَلالِ وَالإِكْرَامِ، لاَ إِلَهَ إِلاَّ أَنْتَ سُبْحَانَكَ بِكَ نَستَجِيرُ وَبِرَحْمَتِكَ نَستَغِيثُ أَلاَّ تَكِلَنَا إِلَى أَنفُسِنَا طَرفَةَ عَينٍ، وَلاَ أَدنَى مِنْ ذَلِكَ وَأَصلِحْ لَنَا شَأْنَنَا كُلَّهُ يَا مُصلِحَ شَأْنِ الصَّالِحِينَ

Oh ALLAH, O Ever-Living, O Ever-Living, O Possessor of Majesty and Honour, there is no god but You, Glory be to You, by You we seek refuge and by Your mercy we seek help, that you will not leave us to Our souls are within the blink of an eye, and nothing is closer than that. And rectify for us all our affairs, O Reconciliator, the affairs of the righteous.

اللَّهُمَّ رَبَّنَا احْفَظْ أَوْطَانَنَا وَأَعِزَّ سُلْطَانَنَا وَأَيِّدْهُ بِالْحَقِّ وَأَيِّدْ بِهِ الْحَقَّ يَا رَبَّ العَالَمِينَ، اللَّهُمَّ أَسْبِغْ عَلَيْهِ نِعمَتَكَ، وَأَيِّدْهُ بِنُورِ حِكْمَتِكَ، وَسَدِّدْهُ بِتَوفِيقِكَ، وَاحفَظْهُ بِعَينِ رعَايَتِكَ

Oh ALLAH, our Lord, protect our countries, honor our authority, support it with the truth, and support it with the truth, O Lord of the worlds. Oh God, bestow your blessing upon him, support it with the light of your wisdom, guide it with your blessings, and protect it with your care.

اللَّهُمَّ أَنْزِلْ عَلَيْنَا مِنْ بَرَكَاتِ السَّمَاء وَأَخْرِجْ لَنَا مِنْ خَيْرَاتِ الأَرْضِ، وَبَارِكْ لَنَا في ثِمَارِنَا وَزُرُوعِنَا وكُلِّ أَرزَاقِنَا يَا ذَا الْجَلالِ وَالإِكْرَامِ

O ALLAH, send down upon us from the blessings of the sky and bring forth for us from the goodness of the earth, and bless for us our fruits and our crops and all our provisions, O Possessor of Majesty and Generosity.

رَبَّنَا آتِنَا في الدُّنْيَا حَسَنَةً وَفي الآخِرَةِ حَسَنَةً وَقِنَا عَذَابَ النَّارِ

Our Lord, give us good in this world and good in the Hereafter and protect us from the punishment of the Fire.

اللَّهُمَّ اغْفِرْ لِلْمُؤْمِنِينَ وَالمُؤْمِنَات، المُسْلِمِينَ وَالمُسْلِمَات، الأَحْيَاءِ مِنْهُمْ وَالأَمْوَاتِ، إِنَّكَ سَمِيعٌ قَرِيبٌ مُجِيبُ الدُّعَاءِ

O ALLAH, forgive the believing men and women, the Muslim men and women, the living and the dead among them. Indeed, You are the All-Hearing, the Near, the Answerer of supplications.

عِبَادَ الله

إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ يَأۡمُرُ بِٱلۡعَدۡلِ وَٱلۡإِحۡسَـٰنِ وَإِيتَآىِٕ ذِى ٱلۡقُرۡبَىٰ وَيَنۡهَىٰ عَنِ ٱلۡفَحۡشَآءِ وَٱلۡمُنڪَرِ وَٱلۡبَغۡىِ‌ۚ يَعِظُكُمۡ لَعَلَّڪُمۡ تَذَكَّرُونَ

O servants of ALLAH - Indeed, ALLAH commands justice and good deeds, and bestows favor on relatives, and forbids indecency. And the denier and the transgressor admonish you that you may remember.

Surah An Nahl-90
