القُرآنُ سِرُّ الاطْمِئْنَانِ : The Quran is the secret to tranquility

Al Quran is the final Holy Book revealed upon the Last of Prophets Hazrat Muhammad (PBUH). The Quran & Sunnah is the only source of holy guidance as it entails detailed instructions for each and every walk of human life. Here guidance from Quran for the followers of Islam (القُرآنُ سِرُّ الاطْمِئْنَانِ : The Quran is the secret to tranquility.) is discussed wrt the Holy Book Al-Quran as the source of satisfaction for humans for better living from Quran and Hadith of Prophet ﷺ. This is an approved Jumma Khutba from the Sultanate of Oman and translated in English.

بِسۡمِ ٱللهِ ٱلرَّحۡمَـٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ 

In the name of ALLAH, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful

القُرآنُ سِرُّ الاطْمِئْنَانِ

The Quran is the secret to tranquility.

 

الحَمْدُ للَّهِ الكَرِيمِ الرَّحْمَنِ، عَلَّمَ القُرْآنَ، خَلَقَ الإِنْسَانَ، عَلَّمَهُ البَيَانَ، وَأَشْهَدُ أَنْ لَا إلَهَ إِلَّا اللَّهُ وَحْدَهُ لا شَرِيكَ لَهُ، وَأَشْهَدُ أَنَّ سَيِّدَنَا وَنَبِيَّنَا مُحَمَّدًا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ وَرَسُولُهُ، أَحْرَصُ النَّاسِ عَلَى تِلاوَةِ القُرْآنِ، وَأَكْثَرُهُمْ تَدَبُّرًا لآيَاتِهِ، صَلَوَاتُ اللهِ وَسَلامُهُ عَلَيْهِ وَعَلَى آلِهِ وَأَصْحَابِهِ ذَوِي الفَضْلِ وَالعِرْفَانِ، وَمَنْ تَبِعَهُمْ بِإِحْسَانٍ إِلَى يَوْمِ القِيَامِ

أَمَّا بَعْدُ، فاعوذ باللہ من الشیطان الرجیم- بسم اللہ الرحمن الرحیم

قال الله تعالى في سُوۡرَةُ البَقَرَة

وَقَالَ لَهُمۡ نَبِيُّهُمۡ إِنَّ ءَايَةَ مُلۡڪِهِۦۤ أَن يَأۡتِيَڪُمُ ٱلتَّابُوتُ فِيهِ سَڪِينَةٌ۬ مِّن رَّبِّڪُمۡ وَبَقِيَّةٌ۬ مِّمَّا تَرَكَ ءَالُ مُوسَىٰ وَءَالُ هَـٰرُونَ تَحۡمِلُهُ ٱلۡمَلَـٰٓٮِٕكَةُ‌ۚ إِنَّ فِى ذَٲلِكَ لَأَيَةً۬ لَّڪُمۡ إِن كُنتُم مُّؤۡمِنِينَ

Surah Al Baqarah – 248

قال الله تعالى في سُوۡرَةُ التّوبَة

ثُمَّ أَنزَلَ ٱللَّهُ سَكِينَتَهُ ۥ عَلَىٰ رَسُولِهِۦ وَعَلَى ٱلۡمُؤۡمِنِينَ وَأَنزَلَ جُنُودً۬ا لَّمۡ تَرَوۡهَا وَعَذَّبَ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُواْ‌ۚ وَذَٲلِكَ جَزَآءُ ٱلۡكَـٰفِرِينَ

Surah Al Tawbah – 26

وقال الله تعالى في سورة التوبة في موضع آخر

إِلَّا تَنصُرُوهُ فَقَدۡ نَصَرَهُ ٱللَّهُ إِذۡ أَخۡرَجَهُ ٱلَّذِينَ ڪَفَرُواْ ثَانِىَ ٱثۡنَيۡنِ إِذۡ هُمَا فِى ٱلۡغَارِ إِذۡ يَقُولُ لِصَـٰحِبِهِۦ لَا تَحۡزَنۡ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ مَعَنَا‌ۖ فَأَنزَلَ ٱللَّهُ سَڪِينَتَهُ ۥ عَلَيۡهِ وَأَيَّدَهُ ۥ بِجُنُودٍ۬ لَّمۡ تَرَوۡهَا وَجَعَلَ ڪَلِمَةَ ٱلَّذِينَ ڪَفَرُواْ ٱلسُّفۡلَىٰ‌ۗ وَڪَلِمَةُ ٱللَّهِ هِىَ ٱلۡعُلۡيَا‌ۗ وَٱللَّهُ عَزِيزٌ حَكِيمٌ

Surah Al Tawbah – 40

قال الله تعالى في سُوۡرَةُ الفَتْح

هُوَ ٱلَّذِىٓ أَنزَلَ ٱلسَّكِينَةَ فِى قُلُوبِ ٱلۡمُؤۡمِنِينَ لِيَزۡدَادُوٓاْ إِيمَـٰنً۬ا مَّعَ إِيمَـٰنِہِمۡ‌ۗ وَلِلَّهِ جُنُودُ ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٲتِ وَٱلۡأَرۡضِ‌ۚ وَكَانَ ٱللَّهُ عَلِيمًا حَكِيمً۬ا

Surah Al Fath – 4

وقال الله تعالى في سورة الفَتْح في موضع آخر

لَّقَدۡ رَضِىَ ٱللَّهُ عَنِ ٱلۡمُؤۡمِنِينَ إِذۡ يُبَايِعُونَكَ تَحۡتَ ٱلشَّجَرَةِ فَعَلِمَ مَا فِى قُلُوبِہِمۡ فَأَنزَلَ ٱلسَّكِينَةَ عَلَيۡہِمۡ وَأَثَـٰبَهُمۡ فَتۡحً۬ا قَرِيبً۬ا

Surah Al Fath – 18

وقال الله تعالى في سورة الفَتْح في موضع آخر

إِذۡ جَعَلَ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُواْ فِى قُلُوبِهِمُ ٱلۡحَمِيَّةَ حَمِيَّةَ ٱلۡجَـٰهِلِيَّةِ فَأَنزَلَ ٱللَّهُ سَڪِينَتَهُ ۥ عَلَىٰ رَسُولِهِۦ وَعَلَى ٱلۡمُؤۡمِنِينَ وَأَلۡزَمَهُمۡ ڪَلِمَةَ ٱلتَّقۡوَىٰ وَكَانُوٓاْ أَحَقَّ بِہَا وَأَهۡلَهَا‌ۚ وَكَانَ ٱللَّهُ بِكُلِّ شَىۡءٍ عَلِيمً۬ا

Surah Al Fath – 26

رَبِّ ٱشۡرَحۡ لِى صَدۡرِى. وَيَسِّرۡ لِىٓ أَمۡرِى- وَٱحۡلُلۡ عُقۡدَةً۬ مِّن لِّسَانِى- يَفۡقَهُواْ قَوۡلِى- آمین ثم آمین

Surah Taha – 25-28

 

Praise be to Allah, the Generous, the Merciful, Who taught the Qur’an, created man, taught him eloquence, and I bear witness that there is no god but Allah alone, without partner, and I bear witness that our master and prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him, is the servant of Allah and His messenger, the most eager of people to recite the Qur’an, and the most thoughtful of them in pondering its verses. May prayers and peace of ALLAH be upon him, his family, his companions, those of virtue and knowledge, and those who follow them in goodness until the Day of Resurrection. This is the translation of the recited verse from Surah Al Baqara:

 

And their Prophet (Samuel A.S.) said to them: Verily! The sign of His Kingdom is that there shall come to you At-Tâbût (a wooden box), wherein is Sakinah[] (peace and reassurance) from your Lord and a remnant of that which Mûsâ (Moses) and Hârûn (Aaron) left behind, carried by the angels. Verily, in this is a sign for you if you are indeed believers. (248)

Surah Al Baqarah – 248

ALLAH Almighty says in Surah At-Tawbah

پھر الله نے اپنی طرف سے اپنے رسول پر اور ایمان والوں پر تسکین نازل فرمائی اور وہ فوجیں اتاریں کہ جنہیں تم نے نہیں دیکھا اور کافروں کو عذاب دیا اور کافروں کو یہی سزا ہے

Then Allâh did send down His Sakînah (calmness, tranquillity and reassurance, etc.) on the Messenger (Muhammad SAW), and on the believers, and sent down forces (angels) which you saw not, and punished the disbelievers. Such is the recompense of disbelievers. (26)

Surah Al Tawbah – 26

ALLAH Almighty says in Surah At-Tawbah at another place:

If you help him (Muhammad SAW) not (it does not matter), for Allâh did indeed help him when the disbelievers drove him out, the second of two, when they (Muhammad SAW and Abu Bakr radhiallahu'anhu) were in the cave, and he (SAW) said to his companion (Abu Bakr radhiallahu'anhu): "Be not sad (or afraid), surely Allâh is with us." Then Allâh sent down His Sakînah (calmness, tranquillity, peace) upon him, and strengthened him with forces (angels) which you saw not, and made the word of those who disbelieved the lowermost, while the Word of Allâh that became the uppermost, and Allâh is All-Mighty, All-Wise.

اللہ تعالیٰ نے سُوۡرَةُ الفَتْح میں فرمایا

ALLAH Almighty says in Surah Al Fath

He it is Who sent down As-Sakinah (calmness and tranquillity) into the hearts of the believers, that they may grow more in Faith along with their (present) Faith. And to Allâh belong the hosts of the heavens and the earth, and Allâh is Ever All-Knower, All-Wise.

Surah Al Fath – 4

اللہ تعالیٰ نے ایک اور مقام پر سُوۡرَةُ الفَتْح میں فرمایا

ALLAH Almighty says in Surah Al Fath at another place:

Indeed, Allâh was pleased with the believers when they gave the Bai'âh (pledge) to you (O Muhammad SAW) under the tree, He knew what was in their hearts, and He sent down As-Sakinah (calmness and tranquillity) upon them, and He rewarded them with a near victory, (18)

Surah Al Fath – 18

اللہ تعالیٰ نے ایک اور مقام پر سُوۡرَةُ الفَتْح میں فرمایا

ALLAH Almighty says in Surah Al Fath at another place:

When those who disbelieve had put in their hearts pride and haughtiness — the pride and haughtiness of the time of ignorance — then Allâh sent down His Sakinah (calmness and tranquillity) upon His Messenger ( SAW) and upon the believers, and made them stick to the word of piety (i.e. none has the right to be worshipped but Allâh), and they were well entitled to it and worthy of it. And Allâh is the All-Knower of everything

Surah Al Fath – 26

O servants of ALLAH: O Muslims: Fear Allah, your Lord, and hold fast to His Book, so that your hearts may find peace and your eyes may be comforted.

 

O servants of Allah: ALLAH Almighty saved humanity by sending the master of the children of Adam, Muhammad, peace be upon him. He sent him at a time of a period of time without messengers, and a decline in beliefs, morals, and deeds, and He made the Holy Qur’an the foundation of his message. And in it was the light that rescued the Arabs and non-Arabs from the darkness of morals, desires, and deeds, to the light of truth, justice, goodness, and beauty. ALLAH says in Surah Al Nisa:

يَـٰٓأَيُّہَا ٱلنَّاسُ قَدۡ جَآءَكُم بُرۡهَـٰنٌ۬ مِّن رَّبِّكُمۡ وَأَنزَلۡنَآ إِلَيۡكُمۡ نُورً۬ا مُّبِينً۬ا (١٧٤) فَأَمَّا ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُواْ بِٱللَّهِ وَٱعۡتَصَمُواْ بِهِۦ فَسَيُدۡخِلُهُمۡ فِى رَحۡمَةٍ۬ مِّنۡهُ وَفَضۡلٍ۬ وَيَہۡدِيہِمۡ إِلَيۡهِ صِرَٲطً۬ا مُّسۡتَقِيمً۬ا (١٧٥)

O mankind! Verily, there has come to you a convincing proof (Prophet Muhammad SAW) from your Lord, and We sent down to you a manifest light (this Qur'ân). (174) So, as for those who believed in Allâh and held fast to Him, He will admit them to His Mercy and Grace (i.e. Paradise), and guide them to Himself by a Straight Path. (175)

Surah Al Nisa – 174-175

 

And whoever contemplates this great light will fully realize that when it enters the heart of the believer, his entire being is illuminated, his soul finds peace, and his spirit finds tranquility. Thus, tranquility becomes his hallmark, serenity his motto, and peace of mind his way of life. How could it be otherwise, when its Revealer, Glory be to Him, has said about it in surah Al Isra:

وَنُنَزِّلُ مِنَ ٱلۡقُرۡءَانِ مَا هُوَ شِفَآءٌ۬ وَرَحۡمَةٌ۬ لِّلۡمُؤۡمِنِينَ‌ۙ

And We send down of the Qur'ân that which is a healing and a mercy to those who believe (in Islâmic Monotheism and act on it),

Surah Al Isra – 82-Part

اور اس نے، پاک ہے، کہاسورہ الرعد میں

And He, Glory be to Him, said in surah Al Rad:

ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُواْ وَتَطۡمَٮِٕنُّ قُلُوبُهُم بِذِكۡرِ ٱللَّهِ‌ۗ أَلَا بِذِڪۡرِ ٱللَّهِ تَطۡمَٮِٕنُّ ٱلۡقُلُوبُ

Those who believed (in the Oneness of Allâh - Islâmic Monotheism), and whose hearts find rest in the remembrance of Allâh, Verily, in the remembrance of Allâh do hearts find rest[]

Surah Al Rad – 28

And the greatest remembrance - by the agreement of Muslims - is the Qur’an, so it is no wonder that the greatest tranquility is found within its embrace, and the ultimate peace is found among its chapters and verses.

 

O nation of the Qur’an: Indeed, this Qur’an shapes you in a wondrous way, and guides you to righteous deeds, the most upright, the best, and the most excellent. Indeed, the true Muslim will show in his private and public life the effects of tranquility through the Qur’an. So if doubt assails him or sin surrounds him, he turns to it, quenching his thirst with its guidance, seeking the light of its verses. In it, he finds healing for the heart from the pitfalls of doubt and the abyss of desires. And if a calamity befalls the believing servant, he hastens to the Quran, and therein he finds in Surah Aal E Imran:

ٱصۡبِرُواْ وَصَابِرُواْ

خود صبر کرو اور مقابلہ میں صبر کرو

Endure and be more patient,

Surah Aal E Imran – 200-Part

اور اس میں مزید سورہ الزمر میں فرمایا

And in it, He says in Surah Al Zumr:

إِنَّمَا يُوَفَّى ٱلصَّـٰبِرُونَ أَجۡرَهُم بِغَيۡرِ حِسَابٍ۬

بے شک صبر کرنے والوں کو ان کا اجر بے حساب دیا جائے گا

Only those who are patient shall receive their reward in full, without reckoning.

Surah Az Zumr – 10-Part

اور اس میں مزید سورہ البقرہ میں فرمایا

And in it, He says in Surah Al Baqara:

وَبَشِّرِ ٱلصَّـٰبِرِينَ (١٥٥) ٱلَّذِينَ إِذَآ أَصَـٰبَتۡهُم مُّصِيبَةٌ۬ قَالُوٓاْ إِنَّا لِلَّهِ وَإِنَّآ إِلَيۡهِ رَٲجِعُونَ (١٥٦)

but give glad tidings to As-Sâbirun (the patient) (155) Who, when afflicted with calamity, say: "Truly! To Allâh we belong and truly, to Him we shall return." (156)

Surah Al Baqara – 155-Part-156

And in times of hardship, the companion of the Qur’an takes refuge in a strong pillar, and God strengthens him through it, and protects him because of his reliance on it, as He, the Exalted, said in Surah Al Furqan:

ڪَذَٲلِكَ لِنُثَبِّتَ بِهِۦ فُؤَادَكَ‌ۖ وَرَتَّلۡنَـٰهُ تَرۡتِيلاً۬

Thus (it is sent down in parts), that We may strengthen your heart thereby. And We have revealed it to you gradually, in stages.

Surah Al Furqan – 32-Part

If a Muslim is confused about a step to take or a decision to make, he will find in the Qur’an insight, guidance, and righteousness. His relationship with the Qur’an is as God, may His names and attributes be sanctified, has said in Surah TaHa

فَمَنِ ٱتَّبَعَ هُدَاىَ فَلَا يَضِلُّ وَلَا يَشۡقَىٰ

پھر جو میری ہدایت پر چلے گا تو گمراہ نہیں ہو گا اور نہ تکلیف اٹھائے گا

then whoever follows My Guidance he shall neither go astray, nor shall be distressed.

Surah TaHa – 123-Part

قرآن کے ساتھ اس کی زندگی روح کی زندگی، اور زندگی کی روح ہے۔ سورہ الشوری میں فرمایا

His life with the Quran is the life of the soul and the soul of life۔ He says in Surah Ash Shura:

وَكَذَٲلِكَ أَوۡحَيۡنَآ إِلَيۡكَ رُوحً۬ا مِّنۡ أَمۡرِنَا‌ۚ مَا كُنتَ تَدۡرِى مَا ٱلۡكِتَـٰبُ وَلَا ٱلۡإِيمَـٰنُ وَلَـٰكِن جَعَلۡنَـٰهُ نُورً۬ا نَّہۡدِى بِهِۦ مَن نَّشَآءُ مِنۡ عِبَادِنَا‌ۚ وَإِنَّكَ لَتَہۡدِىٓ إِلَىٰ صِرَٲطٍ۬ مُّسۡتَقِيمٍ۬

And thus We have sent to you (O Muhammad SAW) Ruh (a Revelation, and a Mercy) of Our Command. You knew not what is the Book, nor what is Faith? But We have made it (this Qur'ân) a light wherewith We guide whosoever of Our slaves We will. And verily, you (O Muhammad SAW) are indeed guiding (mankind) to the Straight Path (i.e. Allâh's Religion of Islâmic Monotheism).

Surah Ash Shura – 52

خدا کے بندو خدا سے ڈرو اور خدا کی کتاب کی طرف رجوع کرو تو فلاح پاؤ گے۔ اس کی آیات کے مطابق زندگی گزارو، اور آپ کو خوشی ملے گی۔

Fear ALLAH, O servants of ALLAH, and turn to the Book of ALLAH, and you will prosper. Live by His verses, and you will find happiness.

I say what you hear, and I ask forgiveness of ALLAH, the Most Great, for myself and for you. So seek His forgiveness, and He will forgive you, for He is the Forgiving, the Merciful. And call upon Him, and He will answer you, for He is the Kind, the Generous.

أقولُ مَا تَسْمَعُونَ، وَأَسْتَغْفِرُ اللهَ العَظِيمَ لِي وَلَكُمْ، فَاسْتَغْفِرُوهُ يَغْفِرْ لَكُمْ، إِنَّهُ هُوَ الغَفُورُالرَّحِيمُ، وَادْعُوهُ يَسْتَجِبْ لَكُمْ، إِنَّهُ هُوَ البَرُّ الكَرِيمُ

I say what you hear, and I ask forgiveness from God Almighty for me and for you, so ask forgiveness from Him and He will forgive you, for He is the Forgiving and Merciful, and pray to Him and He will answer you, for He is The noble righteousness

الحَمْدُ للَّهِ الَّذِي جَعَلَ فِي كِتَابِهِ الطُّمَأْنِينَةَ، وَزَرَعَ فِي نُفُوسِ المُقْبِلِينَ عَلَى حِفْظِهِ وَتَدَبُّرِهِ أُنْسَ السَّكِينَةِ، وَأَشْهَدُ أَنْ لَا إلَهَ إِلَّا اللَّهُ وَحْدَهُ لا شَرِيكَ لَهُ، وَأَشْهَدُ أَنَّ سَيِّدَنَا مُحَمَّدًا عَبْدُهُ وَرَسُولُهُ، خَيْرُ الفَرِحِينَ بِذِكْرِ اللَّهِ، وَأَعْظَمُ المُطْمَئِنِّينَ بِكِتَابِ اللَّهِ، صَلَوَاتُ اللهِ وَسَلامُهُ عَلَيْهِ وَعَلَى آلِهِ وَأَصْحَابِهِ وَأَتْبَاعِهِ إِلَى يَوْمِ الدِّينِ.

 

Praise be to Allah, who has placed tranquility in His Book, and planted in the hearts of those who are committed to memorizing and contemplating it the comfort of peace. And I bear witness that there is no god but Allah alone, without partner, And I bear witness that our master Muhammad, peace be upon him, is His servant and messenger, the best of those who rejoice in the remembrance of ALLAH, and the greatest of those who are reassured by the Book of ALLAH. May ALLAH's prayers and peace be upon him, his family, his companions, and his followers until the Day of Judgment.

 

Now then, O Muslims: There are many ways and abundant means to attain tranquility through the Qur’an in the lives of Muslims, and they are easy for those whom ALLAH makes it easy for. The sincere Muslim will not lack for himself a way from them by which he can reach the bliss and tranquility of the Qur’an, so that he may drink from it or draw from it. Among those means is turning to the recitation of the Qur’an and pondering its meanings, and memorizing it in its entirety or as much of it as is easy to do; for the one who carries the Qur’an in his chest, fully comprehending its meanings, springs of tranquility will gush forth from his sides. And all kinds of tranquility will flow upon his heart, so he will live the life of the blessed, and he will ascend to the level of the saints. But as for the one who has no portion of the Qur’an nor drink from it, how can he be quenched without a source! And how can he attain piety without living with the clear Qur’an! One of the greatest means of attaining tranquility through the Qur’an is acting upon its commands, prohibitions, admonitions, news, stories, and parables. For the Qur’an is only memorized and pondered in order to act upon it and embody it alive in the reality of life, as the Mother of the Believers, Seyyedah Aisha - may ALLAH be pleased with her - said. On the authority of the Messenger of ALLAH, may ALLAH bless him and grant him peace, “His character was the Quran.” So whoever acts according to the Quran, blessings will flow upon him, and goodness will continue to flow in his life. ALLAH says in Surah Al Saffat

لِمِثۡلِ هَـٰذَا فَلۡيَعۡمَلِ ٱلۡعَـٰمِلُونَ

ایسی ہی کامیابی کے لیے عمل کرنے والوں کو عمل کرنا چاہیے

For the like of this let the workers work.

Surah As Saafat – 61

One of the ways to achieve tranquility is by teaching the Qur’an to children, raising them with it, and connecting them to its teachings and guidance, for it plants purity and clarity in their souls, and purity of heart and soul, so that Muslims may reap the fruits of that in guidance and righteousness. And society will be saved from the effects of intellectual deviations and educational errors. So, whoever hopes for a future for your children that is secure and happy, and a prosperous and righteous life, come, come with them to the circles of memorization and contemplation. And the gardens of Paradise, and be sure to honor them, motivate them, and encourage them in all of that, and then you will be among the successful. This, and in the midst of caring for the Book of God, it is incumbent upon Muslims, young and old - Especially those engaged in learning and teaching the Holy Book, leading prayers and preaching to the worshippers - they should hasten to participate in the Quranic competitions organized by religious institutions, as these are a means to perfect memorization and produce a generation that cares about the Quran, both in learning and teaching it. ALLAH says in Surah Al Mutaffiffeen

وَفِى ذَٲلِكَ فَلۡيَتَنَافَسِ ٱلۡمُتَنَـٰفِسُونَ

اور رغبت کرنے والوں کو اس کی رغبت کرنی چاہیئے

and for this let (all) those strive who want to strive (i.e. hasten earnestly to the obedience of Allâh).

Surah Al Mutaffifin – 26-Part

اللہ کے بندو، اللہ سے ڈرو اور قرآن کو اپنی آنکھوں کے سامنے رکھو کیونکہ یہ وہ سرچشمہ ہے جس کے ثمرات کبھی خشک نہیں ہوتے اور وہ سمندر ہے جس کے چشمے کبھی ختم نہیں ہوتے۔

Fear ALLAH, O servants of ALLAH, and keep the Qur’an before your eyes, for it is the source whose benefits never run dry, and the sea whose springs never cease to flow.
