Honesty in job responsibility

Praise be to Allah who has honored us with Islam as a religion that urges honesty and protects the rights of people. We bear witness that there is no god but Allah alone, without partner, and we bear witness that our master and prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him, is the servant of Allah and His messenger, who formulated for the nation the principles of honesty. May the prayers and peace of ALLAH be upon him, his family, his companions, and those who follow them in righteousness until the Day of Judgment. This is the translation of the recited verse from Surah An Nisa:

And wish not for the things in which Allâh has made some of you to excel others. For men there is reward for what they have earned, (and likewise) for women there is reward for what they have earned, and ask Allâh of His Bounty. Surely, Allâh is Ever All¬Knower of everything.

Surah An Nisa – 32

O servants of ALLAH: fear ALLAH and adopt piety and obey ALLAH, I advise you and myself - O servants of ALLAH - to fear ALLAH Almighty and Majestic. ALLAH says in Surah Al Baqara

And fear a Day (of Judgement) when a person shall not avail another, nor will intercession be accepted from him nor will compensation be taken from him nor will they be helped.

Surah Al Baqara – 48

Know that our reality today opens wide horizons for fulfilling one’s duty, and gives every sincere person an opportunity to prove his honesty and show the effect of his piety in his work, for it is through honesty that a person’s status rises. And with truthfulness, ALLAH blesses his effort and endeavor. It is the pillar of virtuous societies, the source of their strength and stability, and the emblem of a living conscience that does not accept deception, nor justify negligence. ALLAH says in Surah Al Baqara

Truly, We did offer Al¬Amânah (the trust or moral responsibility or honesty and all the duties which Allâh has ordained) to the heavens and the earth, and the mountains, but they declined to bear it and were afraid of it (i.e. afraid of Allâh's Torment). But man bore it.

Surah Al Ahzab – 72-Part

O believers: Trustworthiness takes many forms and has many areas; some of it is in keeping secrets and fulfilling obligations, and some of it is clearly evident in bearing job responsibilities, punctuality, justice, integrity, and honesty in performance. One of its most prominent forms in our time is honesty in work and employment. It is a contract in which the servant observes his Lord in his words and actions, his secrets and his public life, so he does not neglect the interests, nor does he take public money for himself, but rather he makes his position a means for reform and serving the people. ALLAH Almighty has commanded the fulfillment of trusts in all matters, saying in Surah Al Nisa:

Verily! Allâh commands that you should render back the trusts to those, to whom they are due; and that when you judge between men, you judge with justice. Verily, how excellent is the teaching which He (Allâh) gives you! Truly, Allâh is Ever All¬Hearer, All¬Seer.

Surah An Nisa – 58

And the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “Return the trust to the one who entrusted you, and do not betray the one who betrayed you.” So your trust in your job – O righteous citizen – is one of the trusts that ALLAH has commanded us to fulfill. And the Messenger of ALLAH (peace and blessings be upon him) linked faith with trustworthiness. He never addressed the people without reminding them of that. Seyyedina Anas bin Malik, may ALLAH be pleased with him, said: “The Messenger of ALLAH, may ALLAH bless him and grant him peace, never addressed us without saying: ‘There is no faith for one who has no trustworthiness, and there is no religion for one who has no covenant. Honesty is a branch of faith, and its loss is a warning of the corruption of the heart.

O Muslims: Indeed, one of the meanings of trustworthiness in work is excellence, and this cannot be achieved except by exerting effort and being mindful of ALLAH before being mindful of people. So whoever undertakes a task—whether great or small— He is responsible for it before ALLAH Almighty, and in the noble hadith: Each of you is a shepherd and each of you is responsible for his flock, so you are a shepherd in your job, responsible for performing it in the best way possible. And remember, O servant of ALLAH, that transparency is the sister and fruit of trustworthiness. It means clarity in speech, integrity in procedures, and disclosing the facts without falsification, and rejecting deception, fraud, and unjustified concealment. ALLAH Almighty says in Surah Al Baqara

And conceal not the evidence for he, who hides it, surely his heart is sinful. And Allâh is All-Knower of what you do.

Surah Al Baqara – 283-Part

Concealing facts related to work, manipulating information, and hiding mistakes are among the betrayals that the Prophet, may ALLAH bless him and grant him peace, warned against when he said: “Whoever deceives us is not one of us.” And whoever takes on a matter concerning the Muslims and makes it difficult for them, ALLAH will make it difficult for him. On the authority of Seyyidah Aisha - may ALLAH be pleased with her - she said: The Messenger of ALLAH, may ALLAH bless him and grant him peace, said: “O ALLAH, whoever is entrusted with any matter concerning my nation and makes things difficult for them, make things difficult for him. And whoever is entrusted with any matter concerning my nation and is kind to them, be kind to him.” Transparency here is a guarantee of people’s rights and a prevention of injustice and corruption. Transparency means that reports are written as they are, that service is provided to the deserving without favoritism, and that one examines oneself before being held accountable.

Fear ALLAH, O servants of ALLAH, and know that trustworthiness is the bridge over which confidence crosses, and that transparency is the mirror that does not lie, and that both are success in this world and salvation on the Day of Resurrection. The Majestic One says in Surah TaHa:

Verily! whoever comes to his Lord as a Mujrim (criminal, polytheist, disbeliever in the Oneness of Allâh and His Messengers), then surely, for him is Hell, wherein he will neither die nor live (74) But whoever comes to Him (Allâh) as a believer (in the Oneness of Allâh), and has done righteous good deeds, for such are the high ranks (in the Hereafter),— (75)

Surah TaHa – 74-75

I say what you hear, and I ask forgiveness from God Almighty for me and for you, so ask forgiveness from Him and He will forgive you, for He is the Forgiving and Merciful, and pray to Him and He will answer you, for He is The noble righteousness

Praise be to Allah who guided us to this, and we would not have been guided if Allah had not guided us. I bear witness that there is no god but Allah, and I bear witness that Muhammad, peace be upon him, is the Messenger of Allah, may ALLAH bless him and grant him peace, and his family, his companions, and his followers who follow his footsteps and his example.

Fear ALLAH, O servants of ALLAH, and know that honesty in work is not merely a moral virtue, but rather a great act of worship for which the servant is rewarded, and punished for neglecting it. For ALLAH Almighty says in Surah Aal E Imran:

It is not for any Prophet to take illegally a part of booty (Ghulul)[], and whosoever deceives his companions as regards the booty, he shall bring forth on the Day of Resurrection that which he took (illegally). Then every person shall be paid in full what he has earned, - and they shall not be dealt with unjustly.

Surah Aal E Imran – 161

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “Beware of injustice, for injustice will be darkness on the Day of Resurrection.” Undoubtedly, neglecting work rights and betraying professional trust is a type of injustice warned against in this hadith. Therefore, the entire Muslim community must support and strengthen the trustworthy employee. And you help the one who is lost by giving advice and guidance. On the authority of Seyyedina Al-Nu’man bin Bashir, may ALLAH be pleased with him, he said: The Messenger of ALLAH, may ALLAH bless him and grant him peace, said: “The example of the one who stands up for the limits set by ALLAH and the one who falls into them is like the example of people who drew lots for a ship, and some of them got the top of it and some of them got the bottom of it.” Those below it, when they drew water, had to pass by those above them. So they said: If we made a hole in our section and did not harm those above us, then if they let them do what they wanted, they would all perish, but if they stopped them, they would all be saved.

Fear ALLAH, O servants of ALLAH, and realize that keeping trust is a reason for gaining confidence in this world and winning ALLAH’s pleasure in the Hereafter, and that betraying trust is a reason for destruction, disgrace, and regret.

Surah Al Ahzaab – 56

So pray and send peace upon the leader of the messengers, Muhammad, the guide and trustworthy. Your Lord has commanded you to do so when He said: “Indeed, Allah and His angels send blessings upon the Prophet. O you who have believed, send blessings upon him and salute him with a worthy salutation.”

He says in Surah Al Ahzab: ALLAH and His kingdom send blessings upon the Prophet. O you who have believed, pray upon him and grant him peace.

Surah Al Ahzaab – 56

O ALLAH, bless and grant peace upon our Prophet Muhammad and upon the family of our Prophet Muhammad, as You prayed and peace upon our Prophet Abraham and upon the family of our Prophet Abraham, and bless our Prophet Muhammad and the family of our Prophet Muhammad, just as You blessed our Prophet Abraham and the family of our Prophet Abraham in the worlds. Indeed, You are Praiseworthy and Glorious. And be pleased, O Allah, with his Rightly-Guided Caliphs, and with his wives, the Mothers of the Believers, and with all the rest of the Companions, and with the believing men and women, and with this gathering of ours, by Your mercy, O Most Merciful of the merciful.

Oh ALLAH, make this gathering of us a merciful gathering, and make our separation after it an infallible separation, and do not leave among us or with us any wretched or deprived.

Oh ALLAH, honor Islam, guide Muslims to the truth, unite their words in goodness, break the power of the oppressors, and grant peace and security to your servants. All of them.

O Allah, be a helper to our brothers in the blessed land of Al-Aqsa, be with them, strengthen them, strengthen their hearts, and grant them patience. Disappoint Your enemy and their enemy, and turn the tables on him, O Possessor of Majesty and Honor.

O Allah, we ask You for steadfastness in our affairs and determination to do what is right. We ask You for gratitude for Your blessings and proper worship of You. We ask You for sound hearts and truthful tongues. We ask You for the best of what You know and seek refuge in You from the worst of what You know. We seek Your forgiveness for what You know.

Oh ALLAH, O Ever-Living, O Ever-Living, O Possessor of Majesty and Honour, there is no god but You, Glory be to You, by You we seek refuge and by Your mercy we seek help, that you will not leave us to Our souls are within the blink of an eye, and nothing is closer than that. And rectify for us all our affairs, O Reconciliator, the affairs of the righteous.

Oh ALLAH, our Lord, protect our countries, honor our authority, support it with the truth, and support it with the truth, O Lord of the worlds. Oh God, bestow your blessing upon him, support it with the light of your wisdom, guide it with your blessings, and protect it with your care.

O ALLAH, send down upon us from the blessings of the sky and bring forth for us from the goodness of the earth, and bless for us our fruits and our crops and all our provisions, O Possessor of Majesty and Generosity.

Our Lord, give us good in this world and good in the Hereafter and protect us from the punishment of the Fire.

O ALLAH, forgive the believing men and women, the Muslim men and women, the living and the dead among them. Indeed, You are the All-Hearing, the Near, the Answerer of supplications.

O servants of ALLAH - Indeed, ALLAH commands justice and good deeds, and bestows favor on relatives, and forbids indecency. And the denier and the transgressor admonish you that you may remember.

Surah An Nahl-90
