Al Quran is the final Holy Book revealed upon the Last of Prophets Hazrat Muhammad (PBUH). The Quran & Sunnah is the only source of holy guidance as it entails detailed instructions for each and every walk of human life. Here guidance from Quran for the followers of Islam (الاعتِرَافُ بِالـجَمِيلِ هَدْيٌ إِسْلامِيٌّ أَصِيلٌ : Acknowledging gratitude is an authentic Islamic gift.) is discussed wrt social life aspects such as to acknowledge and show gratitude is an authentic Islamic gift of behavior for better living from Quran and Hadith of Prophet ﷺ. This is an approved Jumma Khutba from the Sultanate of Oman and translated in English.
In the name of ALLAH, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
Acknowledging gratitude is an authentic Islamic gift.
Praise be to God who encouraged and exhorted people to do good, and praised the one who gives thanks for benevolence and everyone who calls for it, and I bear witness that there is no god but ALLAH alone. He has no partner. I bear witness that our Master and Prophet Muhammad, May ALLAH's prayers and peace be upon him, the servant of ALLÂH and His Messenger, is the most grateful of people for good deeds, and the most devoted of all creations. May ALLAH’s prayers and peace be upon him, upon his family, his companions, and all who follow his approach and path until the Day of Judgment.
Surah Az Zumr – 7
Surah Taha – 25-28
The translation of recited verse is:
If you disbelieve, then verily, Allâh is not in need of you, He likes not disbelief for His slaves. And if you are grateful (by being believers), He is pleased therewith for you. No bearer of burdens shall bear the burden of another. Then to your Lord is your return, and He will inform you what you used to do. Verily, He is the All-Knower of that which is in (men's) breasts.
Surah Az Zumr – 7
The order of gratitude and thankfulness is mentioned in different ways in about seventy-five places in the Holy Quran. And its great excellence is known to us from the Qur'an and Sunnah, some of which are mentioned here. First of all, mention of this verse of the Holy Qur'an in which Allah Ta'ala says kindness to parents immediately after His special mention:
And your Lord has decreed that you worship none but Him. And that you be dutiful to your parents. If one of them or both of them attain old age in your life, say not to them a word of disrespect, nor shout at them but address them in terms of honour. (23) And lower unto them the wing of submission and humility through mercy, and say: "My Lord! Bestow on them Your Mercy as they did bring me up when I was young."
23-24 - Surah Isra
Among these many verses of the Holy Qur'an, in Surah Luqman, He specifically says about being kind to parents, that is, being grateful to them:
And We have enjoined on man (to be dutiful and good) to his parents. His mother bore him in weakness and hardship upon weakness and hardship, and his weaning is in two years — give thanks to Me and to your parents, unto Me is the final destination.
Surah Luqman – 14
In Surah Al-Dhar, He mentions about showing men both ways:
Verily, We showed him the way, whether he be grateful or ungrateful.
Surah Al Insaan – 3
Allah Almighty says about the ungrateful men in Surah Al-A'raf:
Then I will come to them from before them and behind them, from their right and from their left, and You will not find most of them as thankful ones (i.e. they will not be dutiful to You).
Surah Al Araf – 17
Allah Wahida La Shareek says in Surah Nisa while emphasizing gratitude:
Why should Allâh punish you if you have thanked (Him) and have believed in Him. And Allâh is Ever All¬Appreciative (of good), All¬Knowing.
Surah An Nisa – 147
In the Holy Qur'an, Allah describes this quality of many of his prophets. As it is about Prophet Noah in Surah Al Isra:
"O offspring of those whom We carried (in the ship) with Nûh (Noah)! Verily, he was a grateful slave."
Surah Al Isra – 3
Similarly, the mention of many other prophets also falls in this category. It is the highest attribute of a human being in the eyes of Allah. When Allah specifically mentions this quality of his Habib Hazrat Ibrahim (AS) in Surah Al-Nahl:
Verily, Ibrâhim (Abraham) was an Ummah (a leader having all the good righteous qualities), or a nation, obedient to Allâh, Hanif (i.e. to worship none but Allâh), and he was not one of those who were Al-Mushrikûn (polytheists, idolaters, disbelievers in the Oneness of Allâh, and those who joined partners with Allâh). (120) (He was) thankful for His (Allâh's) Favours. He (Allâh) chose him (as an intimate friend) and guided him to a Straight Path (Islâmic Monotheism, neither Judaism nor Christianity).
Surah An Nahl – 120-121
Allah the Exalted asks man to be thankful for that in which Allah, the Exalted, raised men with extensive knowledge. There is mention in Surah Al-Nahl:
And Allâh has brought you out from the wombs of your mothers while you know nothing. And He gave you hearing, sight, and hearts that you might give thanks (to Allâh).
Surah An Nahl – 78
As for what we are to follow, O servants of ALLAH: Fear ALLAH with the truth of piety, and always make benevolence your motto, and acknowledgment of the beautiful as a method. It is the best of creation, the best of virtues, and the symbol of Muslims, especially the righteous.
O believers, You should Know - may ALLAH have mercy on me and you - that ingratitude is a reprehensible behavior and an outcast vice. Since the nature of a Muslim is loyalty, and his habit among people is purity of heart and serenity, He is active and generous to those who have not done him a favor, so how about he repays his favor. For him, and honor to him, and God - the Blessed and Exalted - has mentioned human nature in His Great Book in terms of blessings and gratitude for them, and says:
Verily, man (disbeliever) is ungrateful to his Lord;
Surah Al Adiyat – 6
He describes condition of men when they are self-sufficient and reverts to bad deeds. ALLAH says in Surah Al Alaq:
Nay! Verily, man does transgress (in disbelief and evil deed). (6) Because he considers himself self-sufficient.
Surah Al Alaq – 6-7
Rather, the Lord - glory be to Him - made it clear that man turns to his Creator at the time of his distress, and once the hardship disappears, he returns to his old bad condition. The Almighty says in Surah Al Isra:
And when harm touches you upon the sea, those that you call upon vanish from you except Him (Allâh Alone). But when He brings you safe to land, you turn away (from Him). And man is ever ungrateful.
Surah Al Isra – 67
The Sunnah of the Prophet condemned denial of the gratitude, as he said about the nature of some women:
They (women) deny their spouse, and they deny their kindness. Even If you were good to them all the time, and then she saw something in you, she would say: I have never seen anything good from you.
The basic principle is that a person should be to thank those who do good to him, and reward him with kindness and gratitude, and make him feel his gratitude. He said:
He who does not thank people does not thank God
On the authority of Syedna Jabir bin Abdullah (may ALLAH be pleased with him), he said: The Messenger of ALLAH said: Whoever is given a gift and finds it, let him reward it in return, but if he does not find anything to reciprocate, let him be praised for it. Whoever praises it has thanked him, and whoever conceals it has disbelieved in it.
One of the most dangerous types of denial is forgetting the blessings that ALLAH - Blessed and Most High - has bestowed upon man, and disobeying him, God forbid. It is a person’s duty to thank God in words and deeds. ALLAH says in Quraan (Surah Ibrahim):
And (remember) when your Lord proclaimed: "If you give thanks (by accepting Faith and worshipping none but Allâh), I will give you more (of My Blessings), but if you are thankless (i.e. disbelievers), verily! My Punishment is indeed severe."
Surah Ibrahim – 7
And God Almighty says, commanding His servants to thank Him in Surah Al Baqara:
Therefore remember Me (by praying, glorifying,).[] I will remember you, and be grateful to Me (for My countless Favours on you) and never be ungrateful to Me.
Surah Al Baqara – 152
One of the forms of ungratefulness is disobedience to one’s parents by neglecting them and abondening to care for them. This was narrated on the authority of Omar bin Abdul Aziz - may God be pleased with him - He said:
Do not accompany a disobedient person; He will not accept you since he has disobeyed his parents.
And in this way, O servants of ALLAH, it is obligatory for a man not to deny the favor of anyone who is good to him, in the same way the wife should not deny the favor of her husband, nor the husband to his wife reject the favor. No brother should deny the favor of his sister, nor should a sister deny the favor of her brother, nor should a friend deny the favor of his friend. Because all this is not the nature of the righteous, nor is it the guidance of those close to God.
So fear ALLAH – O’ servants of ALLAH - and remember the kindness of those who do good to you and do not forget it, and reward them for their goodness with kindness and do not disbelieve in them.
========================================================
Praise be to God who has made good deeds beloved to His servants and has made them their norm in various times and circumstances, and I bear witness that there is no god but ALLAH. He is alone with no partner. I bear witness that our Master and Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him, the servant of God and His Messenger, is the most appreciative of people who reward good deeds, in the same manner or better. May God’s prayers and peace be upon him, his family and good companions, and whoever follows their path until the Day of Judgment.
As for what follows, O servants of God: Have you seen that if the act of kindness is spread everywhere, and the return of the favor without denial in various societies and times, would it be possible? Does this affect individuals? There is no doubt about that. A society in which such things are widespread deserves to be an example of classic unity and a role model for solidarity. And cooperation, if this connection and cohesion occurs, what can come of it? We will see - with God's help - a society that appreciates the value of charity and the value of doing good deeds. Because he knows the great reward that God has prepared for His righteous servants. ALLAH says in Surah Al Maeda:
Verily, Allâh loves Al¬Muhsinûn (good¬doers - see V.2:112)
Surah Al Maeda – 13-Part
This benefactor knows that with his benevolence, he will attract the heart of the benefactor to him, so that love and compassion, familiarity and solidarity will prevail, so he loves this and that, and each one helps the other, and each person does good to others according to what he is able to do. One person does good to others with money, and that with education, a third with consolation, a fourth with supplication, and so on.
So, fear ALLAH – O’ servants of ALLAH – and know that remembering the kindness of the benefactors brings the beauty of life and leads to the Garden of Bliss.
O people of Allah, always remember this decree of Allah from Surah Al Baqara:
Shaitân (Satan) threatens you with poverty and orders you to commit Fahshâ (evil deeds, illegal sexual intercourse, sins); whereas Allâh promises you Forgiveness from Himself and Bounty, and Allâh is All-Sufficient for His creatures' needs, All-Knower.
Surah Al Baqara – 268
This is what they prayed and greeted the Imam of the Messengers. Muhammad is the guiding and trustworthy. Your Lord has commanded you to do that when He said:
Indeed, God and His kingdom send blessings upon the Prophet. O you who have believed, pray upon him and grant him peace.
Surah Al Ahzaab – 56
O God, bless and grant peace upon our Prophet Muhammad and upon the family of our Prophet Muhammad, as You prayed and peace upon our Prophet Abraham and upon the family of our Prophet Abraham, and bless our Prophet Muhammad and the family of our Prophet Muhammad, just as You blessed our Prophet Abraham and the family of our Prophet Abraham in the worlds. Indeed, You are Praiseworthy and Glorious. And be pleased, O God, with his rightly-guided caliphs, with his wives, the mothers of the believers, with all the Companions, with all the believing men and women, By your mercy, O Most Merciful of the Merciful, You are Praiseworthy and Glorious.
Oh God, make this gathering of us a merciful gathering, and make our separation after it an infallible separation, and do not leave among us or with us any wretched or deprived.
Oh God, honor Islam, guide Muslims to the truth, unite their words in goodness, break the power of the oppressors, and grant peace and security to your servants. All of them.
Oh God, O Ever-Living, O Ever-Living, O Possessor of Majesty and Honour, there is no god but You, Glory be to You, by You we seek refuge and by Your mercy we seek help, that you will not leave us to Our souls are within the blink of an eye, and nothing is closer than that. And rectify for us all our affairs, O Reconciliator, the affairs of the righteous.
Oh God, our Lord, protect our countries, honor our authority, support it with the truth, and support it with the truth, O Lord of the worlds. Oh God, bestow your blessing upon him, Support it with the light of your wisdom, guide it with your blessings, and protect it with your care.
May God bless you and grant you peace of mind. Blessings be upon you. May God bless you and grant you peace. Or Hamara, Sara Rizk, Jalal, or Izzat, Malik.
Oh God, my Lord, my heart, this world is my curse, and my hereafter is my curse, this world is a terrible torment.
Oh God! A believer is a Muslim, he is dead or his body is dead, he is dead or he is dead, he is dead or he is dead, he is close to you, his supplication is a religious answer or else he is dead.
Servants of God - Indeed, God commands justice and good deeds, and bestows favor on relatives, and forbids indecency. And the denier and the transgressor admonish you that you may remember.
Surah An Nahl-90
