The First Ten Days of Dhul-Hijjah: Secrets of Faith and Spiritual Messages
Praise be to ALLAH, who swore by the first ten days of Dhul-Hijjah to magnify its importance, and honored His servants with it so that they would hasten to Him during it. I bear witness that there is no god but ALLAH, alone, without partner, and I bear witness that Muhammad, peace be upon him, is His servant and Messenger, the best of those who remember and the best of those who worship. May the prayers and peace of ALLAH be upon him, his family, and his companions until the Day of Judgment. This is the translation of the recited verse from Surah Al Fajr:
By the dawn; (1) By the ten nights (i.e. first ten days of the month of Dhul-Hîjjah), (2)
Surah Al Fajr – 1-2
O servants of ALLAH: fear ALLAH and adopt piety and obey ALLAH. O servants of ALLAH, I advise you and myself to fear ALLÂH, for it is His advice to the first and the last of the believers. ALLAH Almighty said in His clear Book in Surah Aal E Imran:
O you who believe! Fear Allâh (by doing all that He has ordered and by abstaining from all that He has forbidden) as He should be feared. [Obey Him, be thankful to Him, and remember Him always], and die not except in a state of Islâm [as Muslims (with complete submission to Allâh)].
Surah Aal E Imran – 102
O believers, we are living in great days, which ALLAH Almighty has honored with exaltation, and our Lord, glory be to Him, has adorned with status. He has sworn by them in His Book, when He, the Majestic and Glorious, says in Surah Al Fajr:
By the dawn; (1) By the ten nights (i.e. first ten days of the month of Dhul-Hîjjah), (2)
Surah Al Fajr – 1-2
Our Chosen Prophet, peace be upon him, has explained to us the great importance of these days. On the authority of Seyyedina Ibn E Abbas, may ALLAH be pleased with him, said: The Messenger of ALLAH said: There are no days in which righteous deeds are more beloved to Allah than these days - meaning these ten days - They said: O Messenger of Allah, not even jihad in the cause of Allah? He said: Not even jihad in the cause of Allah, except a man who goes out with himself and his wealth and does not return with anything of it. And this is no wonder, for Allah the Most High’s announcement to His servants of the superiority of these days is a form of His mercy towards them, and an example of His benevolence, may He be glorified, towards His servants. His blessings of these days carries within them an encouragement to perform acts of worship, and a double preference for attaining rewards and seizing the opportunity to do good deeds. It was reported in the hadith of Seyyedina Ibn Umar, may ALLAH be pleased with him, that the Prophet, peace be upon him, said: There are no days greater in the sight of ALLAH, nor are deeds more beloved to Him than these ten days.
O Muslims: These ten days of Dhul-Hijjah are not just ordinary days, but rather they are days filled with the secrets of faith and wrapped in spiritual lessons. ALLAH the Almighty has honored them by making righteous deeds in them better and more noble than at other times. Striving to do righteous deeds therein is an irreplaceable opportunity, and taking advantage of it enables the servant to evaluate himself in the scale of obedience, and brings him closer to ALLAH, the Almighty, so that he may attain His pleasure and forgiveness. The first deed that the servant should hasten to do towards ALLÂH, the Almighty, is sincere repentance, for repentance is the first gate to success. ALLAH Almighty says in Surah Al Noor:
And all of you beg Allâh to forgive you all, O believers, that you may be successful.
Surah Al Noor – 31-Part
It is the way to expiate sins and raise ranks. ALLAHsays in Surah Al Tahreem:
O you who believe! Turn to Allâh with sincere repentance! It may be that your Lord will expaite from you your sins, and admit you into Gardens under which rivers flow (Paradise) the Day that Allâh will not disgrace the Prophet (Muhammad SAW) and those who believe with him,
Surah At Tahreem – 08-Part
So do not despair of ALLAH’s mercy, and do not doubt His generosity, glory be to Him. The days of virtue are before you, so seize them with repentance and return. ALLAH says in Surah Al Zumr:
Say: "O 'Ibâdî (My slaves) who have transgressed against themselves (by committing evil deeds and sins)! Despair not of the Mercy of Allâh, verily Allâh forgives all sins. Truly, He is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful.
Surah Az Zumr – 53
O, servants of ALLAH: ALLAH Almighty says in Surah Al Ahzab:
O you who believe! Remember Allâh with much remembrance. (41) And glorify His Praises morning and afternoon [the early morning (Fajr) and 'Asr prayers]. (42)
Surah Al Ahzab – 41-42
It was the Prophet’s approach during these blessed days to increase remembrance and glorification of ALLAH. He called for this with his words: “So increase in them the remembrance of ALLÂH, the glorification of ALLAH, and the praise of ALLAH.” Indeed, on such occasions, O successful ones, you cannot do anything but renew your connection with the Creator, the Guardian. So, improve your prayer and strive to improve your relationships with those around you. On the authority of Seyyedina Abdullah ibn Mas`ud, may ALLAH be pleased with him, who said: I asked the Prophet, peace be upon him, Which deed is most beloved to Allah? He said: “Prayer performed on time.” I said: “Then what?” He said: “Then being dutiful to parents.” I said: “Then what?” He said: “Jihad in the cause of Allah.” I said: “He narrated them to me, and if I had asked him for more, he would have given me more.” And you, O intelligent one, should frequently stand in prayer and recite the Quran, for they improve the soul and polish the heart. ALLAH says in Surah Al Ankaboot
Recite (O Muhammad SAW) what has been revealed to you of the Book (the Qur'ân), and perform As-Salât (Iqamât¬as¬Salât). Verily, As-Salât (the prayer) prevents from Al-Fahshâ' (i.e. great sins of every kind, unlawful sexual intercourse) and Al-Munkar (i.e. disbelief, polytheism, and every kind of evil wicked deed)[] and the remembering[] (praising) of (you by) Allâh (in front of the angels) is greater indeed [than your remembering (praising) of Allâh in prayers. And Allâh knows what you do.
Surah Al Ankaboot – 45
So fear ALLAH, O servants of ALLAH, and seize the opportunity of these days to glorify ALLAH and seek His forgiveness and guidance. ALLAH says in Surah Al Haj
Thus it is, and whosoever honours the Symbols of Allâh, then it is truly from the piety of the hearts.
Surah Al Haj – 32
I say what you hear, and I ask forgiveness from God Almighty for me and for you, so ask forgiveness from Him and He will forgive you, for He is the Forgiving and Merciful, and pray to Him and He will answer you, for He is The noble righteousness
========================================================
Praise be to God, who has favored His servants with days in which the doors are opened for them. We bear witness that there is no god but God alone, without partner, and we bear witness that our master Muhammad is the Messenger of God, who conveyed the message of his Lord, the Giver. May the prayers and peace of God be upon him, his family, and his companions.
O servants of ALLAH: Know - may ALLAH grant us success in obeying Him - that among these days of virtue is a day that is its master and its most important, and that is the Day of Arafah. Allah the Most High has made it great, so He perfected the religion for the nation on it and completed His blessings for them. It is narrated that a Jewish man said to Seyyedina Umar ibn al-Khattab, may Allah be pleased with him: O Commander of the Faithful, There is a verse in your book that you recite. If it had been revealed to us Jews, we would have taken that day as a festival. He said: “Which verse?” He said: The verse from Surah Al Maeda
This day, I have perfected your religion for you, completed My Favour upon you, and have chosen for you Islâm as your religion.
Surah Al Maeda – 3-Part
Seyyedina Umar, may ALLAH be pleased with him, said: “We know that day and the place where it was revealed to the Prophet, peace be upon him, while he was standing in Arafah on a Friday.” There is no doubt that you, O believers, are more deserving of honoring this day than others, so single it out for supplication, humility, and remembrance, and occupy yourselves with fasting on it, for the Prophet, peace be upon him, was asked about fasting on the Day of Arafah, and he said: It expiates the sins of the past and coming year. The Companions, may ALLAH be pleased with them, were keen to fast on this day. It was narrated that Seyyadah Aisha, the Mother of the Believers, may ALLAH be pleased with her, used to fast on the Day of Arafah. And if a wise person is unable to encourage himself to multiply his good deeds during these days, then he should at least restrain himself from sins and transgressions. If a person protects himself in this way, it will be an expiation and forgiveness for him. ALLAH Almighty says in Surah Al Nisa:
If you avoid the great sins which you are forbidden to do, We shall expiate from you your (small) sins, and admit you to a Noble Entrance (i.e. Paradise).
Surah An Nisa – 31
So fear ALLAH, O servants of ALLAH, and be among the chosen servants of ALLAH. ALLAH says in Surah Al Hajj
Whose hearts are filled with fear when Allâh is mentioned; and As-Sabirun [who patiently bear whatever may befall them (of calamities); and who perform As-Salât (Iqâmat-as-Salât), and who spend (in Allâh's Cause) out of what We have provided them.
Surah Al Hajj – 35
Surah Al Ahzaab – 56
So pray and send peace upon the leader of the messengers, Muhammad, the guide and trustworthy. Your Lord has commanded you to do so when He said: “Indeed, Allah and His angels send blessings upon the Prophet. O you who have believed, send blessings upon him and salute him with a worthy salutation.”
He says in Surah Al Ahzab: ALLAH and His kingdom send blessings upon the Prophet. O you who have believed, pray upon him and grant him peace.
Surah Al Ahzaab – 56
O ALLAH, bless and grant peace upon our Prophet Muhammad and upon the family of our Prophet Muhammad, as You prayed and peace upon our Prophet Abraham and upon the family of our Prophet Abraham, and bless our Prophet Muhammad and the family of our Prophet Muhammad, just as You blessed our Prophet Abraham and the family of our Prophet Abraham in the worlds. Indeed, You are Praiseworthy and Glorious. And be pleased, O Allah, with his Rightly-Guided Caliphs, and with his wives, the Mothers of the Believers, and with all the rest of the Companions, and with the believing men and women, and with this gathering of ours, by Your mercy, O Most Merciful of the merciful.
Oh ALLAH, make this gathering of us a merciful gathering, and make our separation after it an infallible separation, and do not leave among us or with us any wretched or deprived.
Oh ALLAH, honor Islam, guide Muslims to the truth, unite their words in goodness, break the power of the oppressors, and grant peace and security to your servants. All of them.
O Allah, be a helper to our brothers in the blessed land of Al-Aqsa, be with them, strengthen them, strengthen their hearts, and grant them patience. Disappoint Your enemy and their enemy, and turn the tables on him, O Possessor of Majesty and Honor.
O Allah, we ask You for steadfastness in our affairs and determination to do what is right. We ask You for gratitude for Your blessings and proper worship of You. We ask You for sound hearts and truthful tongues. We ask You for the best of what You know and seek refuge in You from the worst of what You know. We seek Your forgiveness for what You know.
Oh ALLAH, O Ever-Living, O Ever-Living, O Possessor of Majesty and Honour, there is no god but You, Glory be to You, by You we seek refuge and by Your mercy we seek help, that you will not leave us to Our souls are within the blink of an eye, and nothing is closer than that. And rectify for us all our affairs, O Reconciliator, the affairs of the righteous.
Oh ALLAH, our Lord, protect our countries, honor our authority, support it with the truth, and support it with the truth, O Lord of the worlds. Oh God, bestow your blessing upon him, Support it with the light of your wisdom, guide it with your blessings, and protect it with your care.
O ALLAH, send down upon us from the blessings of the sky and bring forth for us from the goodness of the earth, and bless for us our fruits and our crops and all our provisions, O Possessor of Majesty and Generosity.
Our Lord, give us good in this world and good in the Hereafter and protect us from the punishment of the Fire.
O ALLAH, forgive the believing men and women, the Muslim men and women, the living and the dead among them. Indeed, You are the All-Hearing, the Near, the Answerer of supplications.
O servants of ALLAH - Indeed, ALLAH commands justice and good deeds, and bestows favor on relatives, and forbids indecency. And the denier and the transgressor admonish you that you may remember.
Surah An Nahl-90
